    Wood AR15

They are very nice in person too. Wood just feels right. I ran across an AR with wood furniture at a little army surplus store outside of Ft. Campbell maybe 16 or 17 years ago. Obviously it made an impression as I've never forgotten it. I thought the guy was crazy cause he wanted $750 for it. 'Course he had an FN FNC paratrooper folding stock pre-ban for $750. That's what I really wanted. Oh, if only I had had money.
  2. Well, the deed is done. I should have my very own M&P 9FS any day now. Found one like new on GunBroker with 4 mags for a great price. All of the responses were very helpful. I had been thinking of getting one for a while and been down to Franklin Gun to handle one and see what I thought. You guys settled it for me. Thanks to all. Let's go shoot!
  3. Also, if you don't want to fool with the feed ramp and magazine catch modifications but still want to use Hi-Cap mags, you can buy Surefire brand mags. They work with the Saiga as-is but are about twice as much as standard military surplus AK mags.
  4. Terrific! Thanks for all the replys. Keep'em coming. Who has the highest round count through one?
  5. I see a lot of threads on TGO about XD's and Glocks and was wondering if anyone owned an M&P and what you thought about it. Any problems or issues? How does it shoot for you? Thanks
  6. I have bought, sold and traded 4 of them in the last couple of years. They all worked perfectly and shot really well. If you get lucky, you'll find one all messed up and/or missing parts that you can get really cheap. Send it back to Hi-Point and they will rebuild it, replace everything, test it and send it back to you with an extra magazine... all for free. I'm not kidding.
  7. Experience has shown that it is BAAAAD. I carry a thin leather glove to wear if I'm going to do a lot of shooting with it. Also, all you ladies and gents thinking about a lightweight snubbie, don't forget about the Taurus Ultralites. A fine gun for about $100 less.
  8. Magazines only so far. Can never have too many mags or too much ammo.
  9. You could get'em all with one shot if they'd line up for ya, aka Quigley Down Under.
  10. Dang it Sling. I just found this thread and I actually knew what that one was and you had to go give it away. Years ago I looked at one at a Goodman show for $700.
  11. I thought the whole idea of the piston kit was to fix the AR's biggest design flaw. I must admit I have no experience with any of them but I have read about them a lot as well and they seem to be a good way to go, if you can afford one.
  12. Congrats on going back to work. That's bound to be a good feeling. Getting some toys will be a good feeling too. It's good to have goals.
  13. What he said. That is exactly what I have always done and he has signed 3 full-autos for me since he arrived in Nashville. Very pleasant, helpful service from his assistant, btw. The worst part is parking, walking, and getting in the building.
  14. If you're not ready to spend gobs of time trying to absorb all the various models and permutations brought on by the various gun laws over the years or don't have someone to say "buy that one", then absolutely buy a Saiga. I have never heard of an assembly or manufacturing problem with a Saiga. Hands down the best AK out there for the money. If only they would import them in 5.45.
  15. The C-More sight is very popular with competition shooters. If it's for an AK with a com-bloc rail you can't beat the Russian made dots like the Kobra. I have four $30 NCStar red dots bought on ebay, all a couple of years old, and they have held up great. I had a $30 BSA for awhile but it wasn't as bright as the NCStars so I got rid of it.

    Ruger LCP Recall

Kudos to Ruger for not trying to sweep it under the rug by calling it an "Upgrade" like a certain Smyrna, GA company that rhymes with crock... as in "what a ...".
  17. Own a couple of Gen 1 Kobras (AA batteries) and love them. One is 8 years old and seen thousands of rounds go downrange with zero issues.
  18. I fear this country is about to commit Obamacide.
  19. I say if you want a longer stock, change it. Part of the beauty of an AK is how easy it is to swap the furniture around. Just hang on to the original stuff in case you decide to sell the rifle later.
  20. I had not heard about the Magpul .308. Also, don't forget about the Kel-Tec RFB. http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/rfb-press.htm
  21. Metal, I've got a Hi-Point 9mm I need to sell. I need $300 for it. (that's what I paid) I'll bring it in one day this week.
  22. +1 on all the above opinions. I have owned several Tanfoglios but never one of the expensive ones. The CZ75 / Witness design is my favorite above all others. I actually like the Witness models a tad bit more than the standard CZ75. I've always coveted one of the Match models. If you get one post a review. Btw, here's a good place to ask about the Elite or Match Witness. Do a search. I know it's been discussed before. http://www.czforumsite.info/index.php?board=27.0
  23. EAA did indeed import Saigas until about 3 years ago or thereabouts. Somehow they lost the deal and RAA sprang up and began importing them. EAA also imports part of the Tanfoglio line of handguns, the Witness series. Tanfoglio has made parts or assemblies for a lot of the CZ75 clones on the market in the last 20 years. They are well know and respected in competition circles in Europe. have a look at the Tanfoglio website. As for EAA themselves, they are far below the quality of the products they sell. Do a search and you will see post after post about their terrible customer service record. The fact that you see so many Witness pistols out there is testiment to their value and shootability not anything EAA did.

    any H&k guys?

I've always been fascinated with the engineering of their older guns. I've owned a G3/91, P7M8, PSP P7, VP70Z, and currently still own a P9s (my favorite 9mm, period). All of the newer ones, USP's, etc. seem to be pretty much like what everybody else makes just more refined. The older ones were "outside the box".
