  1. I am looking for a new scope for my remington 700 in 30 06. I am looking at the zeiss conquest 4.5-14 or a leupold vx-3 with the CDS turrets. I am wanting to get into a nice scope with side focus that I can start turning knobs instead of guessing hold overs. any input or thoughts would be great. thanks guys. oh, I am looking to keep it around 800-900ish

    458 SOCOM

I am going to use my new 458 SOCOM to deer hunt in Indiana this year. so far, I have only shot it at 100 yards and was very happy with it, just 1 big hole. my question is this, how far can I really shoot with this gun? I could take 1 mile long shots if I were capable, it is very flat up there! I am shooting 325gr hornady FTX. I do plan on spending a lot of time shooting at longer distances this fall before I go hunting. just wondering what I could expect
  4. Is there a powder that isn't so sensative to temperature? Last fall(70* and in shade) I was shooting 1/2 groups out of my remington 700 30-06, I was shooting this last friday(90* in the sun and hot!) and I could only get it to shoot a 1 1/2 group. didn't make me very happy at all, I would like to try a powder that will give me great results in all temps if possible. Right now I am using nosler brass, 165gr balastic tip bullets and IMR 4350 powder. I use this rifle for hunting, so, it will normally be used in november or december when it is cold. If I can't get it to shoot, I will just use my 458 socom, it shoots 1 big hole at 100 yards. I have plans for the 700, I am thinking about a new fluted barrel. pictures of before and after, if I do so, will be posted!
  5. Stopped at Academy sports for the first time since the end of deer season. I found a Leupold vx2 3-9x50 on sale from 350 down to 250! It didn't have to box or the scope cover, so, I talked the manager into taking another $10 off and giving me another scope cover(cheap academy one, but who cares) in with it! My ar-15 in 5.56 will now sport the same scope as my ar-15 in 458socom! happy camper right here!
  6. I had a very hard time posting this thread, I was laughing the entire time but didn't want a nice animal to go to waste. I did find a friend who wants it.
  7. My friend came over to my house and gave me a dead beaver, this thing is huge! I want to get it stuffed but I don't have the money right now. This thing is huge, it has to be 35-40 lbs or more. If anyone wants it to skin or play with, please let me know asap! Thanks
  8. awesome! a cat is the next on my list!
  9. great info, thanks man. hoping to get out in a few weeks and try to get one!
  10. All right guys, I have shot 3 coyotes this year and I would love to shoot a bobcat. When is the prime time to hunt bobcats? My foxpro caller has bobcat in heat, but when and how is the best way to hunt them? you don't hear a lot about bobcat hunting, so, I thought I would ask
  11. that is some awesome work! thank you for the pictures

  17. Grim reminder that we could be called Home at anytime, you and your family are in my prayers
  18. thanks for all of the ideas guys. i think i am going to pass on the tile, i saw where a guy used the wax stile mdf and waxed it, he said it works great and if and when it gets messed up, take the top layer off and replaced as needed, not a bad idea. i will post pictures when i get everything done and show ready!
  19. i like the tile idea, hmm
  20. as far as lighting goes, i am going to put up several new 8 foot lights and also i have an electrical strip running half the length of the bench. just need to finish the top and i am ready to move in!
  21. the work bench will hold my reloading press, heavy duty vice and grinder. i'm a mechanic so it will get used for home car work when i don't feel like driving to my shop for minor repairs, also for wood working. the frame is made of 2x8s and it is attached to the walls at every stud with least 2 3.5 inche deck screws, it also has 2x4 legs supporting it along the wall and also several 2x4 legs on the front side. it is very sold just with the 3/4 plywood and i am planning on having at least 1.5 inches of top surface. i never heard or thought about masonite, where can i get this stuff? lowes?
  22. Well, I am finally getting around to building my work bench for my garage. It is 14 feet long and 2 feet wide, it has a 2ftx2ft section that comes off of one end of it making it almost an "L" shape. right now I have 3/4inch plywood for the top; I am looking for ideas to make a nice top for it. I was thinking of the 3/4 inch MDF plywood I can get at lowes, but not sure that is the best idea. thought I would ask here before I spent anymore money. lol pics to follow when it is done
  23. i was quite excited as well, still on cloud 9! lol
