  1. Both of you are right up on my thoughts... Choices. Sometimes I am told "life is all about choices." People like us choose to learn how to protect ourselves and our loved ones. More importantly, criminals make choices, too. The criminal makes a choice to rob/harm/kill, and at the same time, they make our choice on how to protect ourselves. I honestly feel that if it comes down to "it was either him or me (or loved one)," I will get over it sooner than later. As long as I can minimize all "what-ifs" with "it was gonna be him or me" I'll be okay.
  2. There's a lot of good sense in this thread. These are indeed good to read and think about.
  3. Y'all sure make it a nice place to visit.
  4. No problem. I was going to do it in reverse anyway. It's easier to track my shot placement when I start with a tighter grouping from closer range.
  5. Thanks for the explanation on supported. Whenever a friend of mine has had me shoot weak-handed, it's that hand alone. Now I understand you loud and clear. I am definitely still at the stage that I need to focus on accuracy before meeting the time limits. 25 yds is indeed intimidating! One reason is I have a hard time seeing where I hit the target. I bought some of those targets that turn color when hit, so that will help. I'm overdue for a range session. At least I finally got my hands on some target ammo that's been so scarce lately!
  6. The last time I went to a range, the lane was free (coupon received after taking my permit class at the place), and I took 50 rds with me. I thought I had a plan in my head on what to shoot and how, but I ended up forgetting it, and I left there feeling like I had wasted 50 rds of ammo and learned nothing. Your post is very helpful, and it is something I will try next time I go to a range! I have one question. What does "supported" mean when you say "strong hand supported?" Does it mean the strong hand holds the gun, and the other hand helps support it? Or does "supported" mean something like "used?" "strong hand used" meaning the weak hand is off to the side?
  7. That sure seems like the best advice to follow. My standard size pistol just had a light added to it for home defense (SW99QA). I know there's a particular brand/model holster for it that accommodates the tactical light. I won't leave it cocked, locked, and loaded without it being in a holster to guard the trigger. That particular gun has a take-down/decocker button, so it comes in handy as a psuedo "safety" with minimal handling. My other pistol purchased for carrying is a sub-compact SW990L (has no decocker button). When I start carrying it regularly, it'll go straight from the carry position to nightstand/table and left in its holster. I'm not touching it otherwise.
  8. I think the overwhelming majority of us get that response when we call after a certain number of days. It's like the politely sqeaky wheel gets oiled.
  9. I didn't mean it by law, just as "if only common sense would prevail." Wishful thinking in other words... My last sentence could be reworded as "I'd hate for all those with little man syndrome to eventually cost smart OC'ers their right to OC." It's just another case in life where a few morons can ruin it for everyone...
  10. I am one of those that supports the right to OC, but I will never or rarely do it. In regard to your first two sentences, I know someone that will open carry from time to time, and it is their attempt to seek attention. This same person also told every living soul they know they were getting a permit. And this person's behavior combined with their small size and other features makes them the perfect target of a criminal that sees him first. In the case of this person, it makes gun toters look arrogant and makes him a prime candidate to be overtaken. On the other hand, I occasionally see a person open carrying, and they act as normal as anyone could ask for. They seem "alert" and I truly doubt a criminal would target them. If only we could limit OC'ing to those that have the brains and presence to do so safely... I'd hate to see those people's right taken away in time due to the overzealous OC'ers.
  11. Sorry you didn't see it. I posted about it a good while ago. I figured it would be stickied like the Ruger thread. It wasn't. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handguns/17823-s-w-walther-ppk-ppk-s-recall.html
  12. +1 I don't think my eyes have gone back into their sockets after seeing the rear.
  13. I agree 100%. Everytime I think of a situation where I'd cosider OC, after giving it more thought, CC seems like a better option. What you stated usually comes to mind.

    Chrysler/Fiat

Daimler screwed Chrysler in that "merger of equals" - something that was disproved after all the dust settled.
  15. You said that quite well!
  16. I just got turned onto guns in the last 1.5-2 years. Count me as someone that would have his eyes bugged out at the sight of an exposed gun before I got into all this. Would I have called the police? No, I'd just get out of that person's area. Too bad there's no simple way to educate everyone.
  17. No surprise... I know an employee at a Jiffy Lube that jokes about their screw ups - usually involving a new engine for a customer. I do everything I can on my own. When I have to take a car to a shop, I cringe.
  18. Those maps show voting trends of an uninformed and misinformed public. Only a portion of Blue voters truly voted with their hand held out for socialistic handouts. Many that voted Blue, if informed correctly, would vote Red in a heartbeat. The Red voters (if better informed) would be more likely to remain Red. What Red state people believe in is what most people would believe in if given the chance or correct education. Red state beliefs are innately COMMON SENSE. Insert just about any Conservative vs. Liberal debate here. When you look at how narrowly Bush beat Gore and Kerry, and how the media rallied behind Obama's history in the making, it's no surprise the Blue finally edged out the Red. (Then factor in the hysteria over the economy, there was no way the incumbent party was going to win.) I honestly believe if the mainstream news media was 100% unbiased in its reporting, Bush would have won his two elections by nice margins. Basically, I am defending a lot of Blue voters as being duped by the media and pop culture rather than them truly embracing the socialism they have brought upon us all. If given the real facts, they'd vote Right. (not all, but a lot of them) A very vocal and determined minority of liberal "thinkers" are running this show called the U.S. of A.
  19. CNN/MSNBC reporting... "A fringe group of radicals have begun raising this nation's cherished flag upside down. Law enforcement agencies are on high alert. These extremists feel that our compassionate government does not know what is best for us. What these peoples' exact motives are remains to be seen. If you see an American flag in this position, you are cautioned to get away from it for your own safety. The White House is reporting the President will address this concern to the nation. Soon our historic leader will reassure us of his policies that will continue to make this great country prosper, and put down those who resist with hate and fearmongering in their callous hearts." (as soon as the Teleprompter is loaded)
  20. I did not get a confirmation email either. I signed up about 4 nights ago.

    DAO auto...?

This article on a S&W 990L is more of an article about what defines a DAO. It's good reading. http://www.handgunsmag.com/featured_handguns/sw99ol_081005/index.html
  23. What about Kahr? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kahr_Arms The first paragraph is quite interesting on Wiki! http://www.saeilo-smi.com/ http://www.saeilo-smi.com/firearm.html I ran across the Saeilo site at work a few weeks ago and saw Kahr. When I first saw this thread title, I wondered if it was Kel-Tec I had read about, but I finally remembered it was Kahr.
  24. I think the same way. It's a shame, but it's the only smart way to think these days. Try regaining your reputation after being falsely accused. The fine news media won't say you're innocent on the front page, if they even do it at all...
  25. That was goooood. I come home each day and call my dogs everything but dogs. I tell them their life consists of nothing but sleeping and waiting for entitlements. They don't beg. They're too lazy to do that.
