  1. Choco-Glock!   I like it, congrats.
  2. I'm looking forward to hitting the gun show tomorrow in Jackson with my son.  Gonna be looking for some more pistol powder (hopefully, CFE-P) and maybe some primers if they are a great deal.   Also, needing an AR lower for a parts kit I just came up with.   Was wondering if anyone has heard whether David will be there tomorrow with his wonderful traveling reloading road-show?!?
  3. Might check Tractor Supply Co. over the next couple of days.  They were running the BIg Buddys on sale for 70.99 here for a week.  Best price I've seen on these.
  4. Just an update.   My sister got to meet Rachel and pick up her gun from Fighting Sheepdog.  Their price on transfer was exactly as quoted here BUT the time they were willing to spend with her showing her how to break down and clean her new gun was priceless.  I expect you have made a customer for life for your kindness and caretaking of her purchase.   Thank you for taking care of my sis.  We've already been to the range and she loves her new gun.   J.
  5. I spoke with my sister this afternoon and told her of your kind offer.  She was impressed that she could speak with a lady who would help her with the transfer.  She thinks Saturday she might try to find you all.  I told her to ask for Rachel and mention the forum and this thread.   thanks again j
  6.   Greetings Rachel, thank you for responding.  I will share with my sister your kind offer and see how close to you she is located.  She is on the other side of the interstate from the Claxton area.  The gun she is interested in is at Kentucky Gun Company.  I checked and Fighting Sheepdog is listed with them which makes this already a good fit.   If it's okay, I will ask her to call you, Rachel and maybe help set up this transfer.   thanks jonnnyboy
  7. Thanks for all the advice.  Some great help here.   It looks like Fighting Sheepdog and Law Enforcement Sales have gotten multiple recommends.  Does anyone have contact info for each that I can share with my sister?  I just talked to her and she's excited about your recommendations.   thanks
  8. I have a younger sister who lives in the Knoxville area and works in Clinton.  Afte rmany years of encouragement, she has decided that she wants a handgun.  We've talked at length and I have worked with her on her shooting skills and I feel if she's ready then I'm ready to help her get one.  I live in the western end of the state, so I can't really recommend a lgs to handle her transfer.  We've found her gun at Kentucky Gun Co. but need some dealer locat to her area to transfer it to.   Do you guys have a favorite place to do your transfers in this area?  She's 50 years old and just a little intimidated to walk into a gunstore by herself.  I'm proud that she's taking this step and I want her to have a good experience in her first gun to buy.  Where do I need to send her?  Also, do you know their transfer fee?   thanks
  9. I've been watching Bud's, Kentucky Gun Co and Palmetto State Armory pretty closely.  Every so often they run a pretty good sale but I thought if there were a local source, I might try to keep it in state on this one.  I talked to the guys at King's in Columbia and they have a special for Law Enforcement.  I have firefighter creds so that may be my best option if I want to take a long afternoon drive.  I will probably be going that way in August but I just hate to wait.  LOL.   Thanks for keeping an eye out for me, guys. j
  10. I've decided that I would like to get a Shield in 9mm.  I've checked online and located a few pretty good deals but thought I would ask if anyone had run across a local gunstore in the West Tennessee area that had Shields at "online competitive" pricing?   thankis j
  11. I have gone through the form 4 wait (6 months) about a couple years ago and now find myself wanting another suppressor.  I've been studying and searching for more information and am finding that the trust seems to be the route to go.  I have a couple questions.   I'm reading about some legislation that may impact the use of a trust coming about maybe next year.  Is that something I need to research more before making the decision?   Also, can the names on the trust be changed in the future if family members die or want to be added?   Finally, can I add the suppressor I already own to the trust so it will be treated the same way as any future acquisitions?   Thanks for all the help.
  12. I ordered some 5.56 middle of last week and UPS delivered it on Wednesday evening this week.  It was a good deal and right at one week to my door.
  13. Thanks for the recommendations.  I ended up ordering some from Palmetto State Armory for just a little over .35/round delivered.  Now to see how it shoots when it gets here.  Supposed to arrive middle of the week.
  14. My son just bought a new AR15 and I thought I would do the good "Dad" thing and buy him some ammo to enjoy shooting.  I'm looking for pretty basic FMJ ammo and probably in a 420-500-1000 bulk pack.   Who do you normally buy your 5.56 ammo from that you would recommend?   thanks
  15. Well, had the opportunity to slip off and shoot a few shells with the new powder.  I had loaded 5 each of two different beginning loads.  Both were using the CSB-1 which I was able to get from David.   1.  147gr BBI Hi-tech coated with 3.0 of CSB-1.  Load was smooth and functioned well.  Recoil was sort of a rolling kick and felt good.  No chrony but a very satisfying smack from the 147.  Brass landed just a few feet in front and slightly to my right.  No signs of high-pressure.  Brass was clean, no soot and appeared to have sealed well.   2.  115gr fmj with 4.2 of CSB-1.  Again, function and feeding were smooth with no ftf, fte or stovepipes.  Recoil was a little more snappy and and the gun felt good during the firing sequence.  Brass landed a little farther away but still within reason, maybe 4 or 5 feet away in front and again, slightly to the right.  No signs of high-pressure with round-edged primers but with a very slight cratering.  Clean brass.   Gun used was a S&W SD9VE that seems to digest anything I give it.  All in all, I may run the 147 bullet a little faster but I'm liking the 115 bullet at this loading a lot.  There was no time to shoot for accuracy today but I was banging the dirtclods I was aiming at with regular consistency so I feel it is shooting at POA with both loads and some paper targets will be next to try.
  16. I tend to start pretty light with any work-up and especially when there is a dearth of information.  Sorry, laziness caused me not to type "powder" behind Universal.  It's also interesting that the label of the CSB-1 powder says to use Universal loads.  Thanks, I'll watch to make sure for impacts and let you know how it goes.
  17. I might have missed this but do you have to use a trust?  Or, can an individual submit a Form 1 by efile?  Thanks
  18. I was wanting to load some 9mm 147gr coated lead with the new powder but can't find any numbers for just lead.  Everything is for jacketed that I have been able to find.  I decided to load up a couple with 3.0 grains of the CSB-1 powder to start with.  Does anyone feel that this is out of safety range?  None of my books have 147 lead recipes for Universal and I haven't been able to find much on the internet either.  Help, guys.
  19. Thanks guys.  This is giving me some places to start.  Also, thanks Dolomite for fixing my post.  I just lifted that straight from the ad in the vendors section.    Mr. David, I've already been loading some of this powder; looking good!
  20. I had the great opportunity to meet Mr. David this morning at the show in Memphis where I picked up some powder and primers he had graciously promised to hold for me.  "Thank you, Mr. David!"   The one thing nobody has mentioned about the man is that he is very passionate about his reloading and can/will sell you more than you had planned on buying if you are not careful!  LOL!  With that said, I came home with a four pound bottle of this powder and now I am looking for some loading information to get me started.  Unlike the eight pound bottle, there are no numbers on the smaller four pounder.  I found some initial numbers that Ms. Sam had posted in an earlier thread, so is this where I start or do you guys have any advice on some basic starting loads for 9mm, 38/357mag, 44/44mag and 45acp?  Thanks!   LOAD DATA 9MM/115:  4.6 GRAINS 1150 FPS 9MM/124:  4.2 GRAINS 1100 FPS +P .40/180:  5.5 GRAINS 950 FPS .40/165:  5.8 GRAINS 1050 FPS .40/155:  6.2 GRAINS 1150 FPS .38 SPL/125:  5.0 GRAINS 1000 FPS .38 SPL/148:  4.3 GRAINS 975FPS .45/185:  6.8 5.8 GRAINS 950 FPS .45/200:  6.5 GRAINS 950 FPS .45/230:  5.8 5.0 GRAINS 850 FPS
  21. Today, it is "The Hunt for Red October".
  22. Been burned many times.  I try not to let it bother me as I've learned that my own energy, time and thinking are wasted if I dwell on the negatives of those around me.  The quicker I can forgive and move on, the quicker I can get back to the things I really want to be focused on.  Lessons I learned from my Mom and Dad and Sunday School.  They've worked for me for over 50 years now.   I'm glad things worked out for you TMF.  Put it behind you and be who you feel led to be.
  23. Thanks David.  I will try to give you a call within the next couple days to make an order.  Thanks again.
  24. Thanks, snake. I knew I had seen a number recently but just could not locate it. Looking forward to some powder!
  25. I am hoping David or Sam will be at the Germantown gunshow on July 26-27 and wanted to get in contact with them beforehand.  What is the best way to contact them without being too much of a bother to them?   I'm really hoping to find that Mr. David has my favorite powder and some more primers and maybe getting him to hold them for me.   thanks joe
