  1. My FIL had problems with people hitting his mailbox with their cars and such things happening as above. The inlaws live on a rather steep hill, and the mailbox has to reach over a drainage ditch next to the street that has no curbs. He welded a box out of heavy steel and welded a frame out of 4" heavy steel pipe so that it would pivot when struck. You'd have to use explosives to damage that thing now, but it'll sure stand up to a car as someone found out a couple of months later when they felt that they needed to test its construction. Around where I live now people invest a lot of time and money making mailbox stands out of brick and mortar just to have some A-hole knock them down with their cars.
  2. Saluting in that context is not respect; it is a regulation. I respected very few officers, but I saluted every single one of them. Even the officers said you were respecting the rank; not the man. I do believe Major Winters said as much in The Band Of Brothers - now that's a man I would salute out of respect!
  3. Sociologist have long held the theory that people get promoted to their highest level of incompetence.
  4. Nothing coming out of that state surprises me anymore.
  5. Feel free to close it then. I think I have what I need.
  6. The sillhouette looks that of Admiral Mullens JCOS. Barry looks like he's calling someone.
  7. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
  8. Sorry, but 140 Ft/Lbs can make the difference between a severed aorta or a bruised aorta...or any other major artery for that matter.
  9. There's also the Taurus 740 Slim. Hummm...
  10. I believe it took Carlos 2 shots to kill the VC. The first shot struck the wheel of the bicycle knocking him down. The second shot killed him.
  11. Thanks, guys!
  12. When selling a rifle to a friend in Texas do I have to go to a Tennessee FFL and ship it to a Texas FFL, or can I just ship it directly to the Texas FFL?
  13. Dunno. Like I said the stock market makes my eyes glaze-over. My wife was the one who saw the report on the news showing the trading before and after O-blame-a spoke his great words of wisdom.
  14. Ironic that trading was fairly even until after he got on TV and ran his mouth of blame and his "They made a mistake defense" then the market tanked. I don't pretend to know anything about the market, but I don't think that was coincidence.
  15. Thanks to all who contributed.
  16. About 140 ftlbs less energy than the 9mm. If I'm gonna go small I want as much going for me as I can get. I have an Ed Brown Kobra Carry for when I want to go big.
  17. it's an excuse to handle lots of guns and then to actually get one! Yes! The important things in life!
  18. It looks appealing since it's very close to the Taurus.
  19. Yes, I fondled one of those when I was looking for a weapon for my wife. She ended up getting a 642 because of hot brass down the cleavage. It looked well-fitted, but wasn't there a problem with them? I vaguely remember reading something about there being one although I don't remember what the problem was.
  20. Thanks, I'll give it due consideration. Looks about the price of the Walthers.
  21. I like the specs - in particular the weight. Is it reliable?
  22. I have an M&P 9c with Hi-Viz front sight and Crimson Trace grips that - for reasons that I'll not get into here - I do not like. I have a Taurus 738SS that I absolutely love to carry because it fits in a pocket holster in my wallet pocket: however, it is still a .380. For those who might not know the Taurus is identical to the Ruger LCP and Keltec P-3AT. I am thinking of trading the M&P for something similar to the Taurus but with a little more bite to it. I have looked at some Smiths, Walthers, Taurus, and Rugers but sadly I do not know much about them. I would like something about the same size as the Taurus but in 9mm. Soooo, anyone have informed opinions to share, please?
  23. Not educational? WTF? It's ok for a liberal professor to spew his rhetoric, but mints are over the line?
  24. ^^^ Ding, ding, ding! Winner! To qualify my remarks: I am a former LEO. They have absolutely no problem selling anything else they have seized, (obviously speaking of otherwise legal property), to try and fund their department/city coffers, so why the problems with guns? Perhaps it's because the Chiefs of Police are too political and reflect what their mayors think, but because they are Chiefs of Police people assume that they speak for their officers? You can bet that quite a few have no problems retaining certain firearms for their own use - including illegal ones.
  25. I just now tried and got right in.
