  1. Well I just enjoy taking an inexpensive gun and dressing them up. I'm better at refinishing old stocks. I'll probably just leave the 10 round mag but I do have a muzzle break that fits but I can't punch out the old pin to replace with a new one. If fits tight but I want it pinned before I fire it.
  2. It's obvious that Gore and/or Kerry would have done everything in their power to destroy gun rights and Obama and his puppet master Pelosi will detsroy the Bill Of Rights if elected. Anyone who claims they are pro 2nd Amendment and supports a staunch liberal for office are either lying about being pro gun or increadibly naive. If Bush could run again against Obama, I would vote for Bush in a heartbeat.
  3. Thanks, I worked hard on the stock cleaning it up. I do have a MAK-90 for civil wars and charging Russians comming up the driveway, that will be my combat weapon if needed.
  4. Well that answers the question about the feed ramp. I have made another 20 round mag work good in another SKS by opening slightly the the top of the mag a bit, I may try that again later. To answer the question of why a 20 round mag instead of the 10, well why does anyone add to or modify a 10-22 or any other gun? Just for the heck of it I guess.
  5. I have one of the nicest SKS's in my possession, it's actually my brothers but I'm going to make him an offer on it. It's nice because I've never seen one with this smooth of a finish on it and some time ago I took an old stock I had and worked hours on it refinishing it and replaced the old stock. I also installed a factory Chinese 20 round mag with the commie star, which in the past I have found they worked better for me than the after market but this one didn't. It seems as though the mag doesn't allow the rounds to slide into the chamber high enough and the tip of the round sticks on the bottom of the chamber. I have had to adjust mags in the past to allow the rounds to point upwards a little more before feeding but I haven't done that to this one yet. There is also no angled feed ramp to the chamber at all. My question is, is it safe and is there someone that could grind a minimal angle feed ramp on the bottom of the chamber? With the factory 10 round mag it works well but It seems to me a feed ramp would even make it more reliable. Here's a pic.
  6. I was going to start a thread on Russian ammo, with the new tensions between the US and Russia now, it may be a good idea to stock up on some 9x18 and 7.62x39. If we cut all ties with Russia cheap ammo may be hard to come by.
  7. One of the best stores I've been to was the old Gun Mart on Charolette pk. That was several years ago. Even when I came in just to browse they would ask if there was anything I wanted to look at, answered questions, and even acknowledged I was there if they were in the middle of a gun sale. I bought several guns from them, several holsters and quite a bit of ammo and accessories, and had some very satisfactory gun smith work done by them. I had even sent friends there to buy guns. Then there's a couple of stores I walked out of in the past saying screw them under my breath. Good service and courtesy is good business.
  8. Since shall issue became law in Tennessee, and around 200,000 citizens have TN permits, the vast majority of permit holders have proven they are indeed responsible enough to carry a handgun. If ther wern't the anti-gun media would definatly let us know. To punish an entire group of people for the bad behavior or irresponsible actions of a few issocialist and elitism. You are correct on all points Mike, it's not up to me or anyone else to decide who is and who isn't responsible.

  10. You felt it pretty strong then, I can't say for sure but it probably was like a 3. here. It's true about dogs being very sensitive to quakes, mine was all upset for a while.
  11. This is a cool site, I like to check it out every now and then. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/index.php
  12. The earthquake in Illinois at 4:35? It was a 5.4 there but I definatly felt it for about 5 to 8 seconds. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsus/Quakes/us2008qza6.php
  13. The first thing I always do when I buy a new firearm is disassemble it, clean it, reassemble it. Then shoot at least a few hundred rounds through it.
  14. Well living outside the city I would hope to hold down the fort. I couldn't stand the thought of leaving any of my firearms but in SHTF scenerio I'll have my MAK-90 for my main protection and my Glock 21 on my hip. I'm even afraid to shoot up my stash of ammo now with prices going up. Maybe intstead of buying another gun, I may buy more ammo. Even if you have an overstock it would be a good commodity to trade with. Where I'm at, I don't see many scenerios that would make me go mobile.
  15. I have a MAK-90 for a protection scenerio, also fun shooting. I keep one loaded mag close and 5 others loaded stowed away for the range. I haven't shot it in 6 months and there's always that question of keeping mags loaded for long periods that may cause weakening of the spring. I have heard both arguments, just wondering what others think about that. I guess I'll find out the next time I take it out to shoot.
  16. Glock 21SF when I can wear the shirt to hide it. I haven't got a decent holster for it yet so I carry it in a soft Blackhawk, it works though. I have read all the old gun writers for many years and they just put the .45ACP is the best, attitude in me. Also the reputation for reliability of the Glocks, it is accurate, and 13 rounds of 230 grain HPs. It took a while to get used to the fat grip compared to other handguns I've carried but I'm just fine with it now. I'm no competition marksman but I can get the job done with it.

    new SKS!

I've had several SKS's, have a pretty nice one now. The only high cap mags I gotten to work was the Chinese 20 rounder with the commie star. I still had to tweek it a little. The chamber has no angle or ramp for feeding and some of the mags wont allow the tip of the round to enter the chamber all the time but I spred out the rails(if that's the correct terminology), so the tip of the round enters the chamber.
  18. They wouldn't do anything to the crooked @%$#*#!. I would love to see him involved in some big scandle, I would enjoy that. That's the amount of disdain I have for that man.
  19. The post office has a sign warning about carrying in a federal building, and it does specify federal "property" so I assume you could get busted for having it in your car. But who's going to go home first just to leave your handgun at home and make a trip back to the post office? I can get my registration plates at the bank in Pegram, that not a city or county owned building but a bank is another place I lock my handgun in the car because I'm not sure about the law on that. If the city of Dayton owns the building, I assume it's not lawful to carry in there.

    Snubbies

I guess I could quit procrastinating and order one of these, unless someone knows of a better one. I know Hogue used to make slip ons that were inexpensive. http://personalsecurityzone.com/cgi-win/order/prodlist.exe/PSZ/?Template=ProdDetail.htm&ProductID=17549

    Snubbies

I feel well protected with my SP101, I like more capacity although 5 is probably enough for the citizen self defense encounter. I always thought the snubby was the perfect weapon for the scenario of a car jacking or you were in a wrestling match with the thug where a quick draw without a perfect grip and no safety was needed. When I wear my SP101 it's in a Galco hip holster but going for a quick night walk in the yard it slips nicely into your pocket. I do wish it had a different grip, one a little thicker and textured. That being said, I still wear my Glock 22 when I can wear shirts to conceal it but the little stout Ruger conceals much nicer in an untucked t-shirt in the hot summer.
  22. I wouldn't recommend that you go into the airport and ask a security guard if you can wear your gun in here though. When in doubt, I will lock mine in the car before entering the building. That's even a violation at the post office I believe.
  23. And they wont bother to check the numbers of how many people have permits and how long they have had them, and compare crime rates of permit holders to any other group of that size.
  24. I know my personal boycott of state parks wont really make any difference but I will no longer visit any of them and will discourage anyone else from visiting any of them.
