  1. It was just as illegal in NOLA and that didnt stop the JBTs from carrying it out.

But you confirm my point that probably few to no LEs would hesitate if given the order. It's their job.

Ours is making sure it never comes to that.

I had thought about that then I also thought about N.O. being a liberal city with a history of crooked LEOs. Also I believe there were volunteer cops from different states like California that were confiscating guns.

Never heard anything about gun confiscations in the rural areas and in Mississippi, I don't believe the rural folk would have tolerated it so easily as the city folk did.

  2. Some more things to add just because I enjoy 10/22's :)

Spend a few hours on rimfirecentral.com if you havent already.

Removing that barrel band, or using a dremel to modify it so it does not physically touch the barrel, will get you a noticeable improvement in accuracy. You can send off your barrel to have it recrowned and the chamber modified to get another significant gain in accuracy, or pick up a .920 bull barrel and stock. Green Mountain barrels are great quality at an ever better price (as low as $80 for a barrel last time I checked) and you can add a Hogue stock for about $60. The aforementioned mods with a upgraded trigger, should net you 1/2" groups or less at 25 yrds assuming you take you time putting it together.

Make sure you are using High Velocity ammo. Try out CCI blazers and see if you get any jams with those, or I have good luck with the bulk Federal "Match" ammo. Some really good stuff is the Wolf (yes, Wolf, their 22 is some of the best) or Eley ammo but it can be pricey.

I'll do that with the barrel band and see how it does, and buy some better ammo. As for the aftermarket mag, I wasn't expecting much from it, just more shooting time between reloads. I checked out Tactical Innovations magazines and they do look superior. I also want another factory mag. I'm going to take it out shooting at a decent range, bench rest and all next week sometime.

I noticed there's alot of aftermarket modifications you can do with a 10-22. I definatly need to go to another gun show, it's been a while.

  3. I saw this story as it aired, that was the last time I ever watched CNN.

    http://www.allsafedefense.com/news/Outdated%20News/CNN_Lies.htm

In the first of the two segments that aired Thursday, a Broward County detective fired the AK-47 in semiautomatic mode, and the camera showed bullets hitting a cinder-block target. The detective then fired a legal semiautomatic weapon, and CNN showed a cinder-block target with no apparent damage. On Friday, CNN admitted that the detective had not been firing at the cinder block.

  4. To fix the extraction problems I would suggest the following:

    1. Polish the bolt.

    2. Get a recoil buffer, it will also quiet the gun down. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=554518&t=11082005 I think there is a cheaper one out there, IIRC I paid around 4 or 5 for mine...but Im too lazy to browse rimfirecentral.com right now :)

    3. Throw in a VQ Extractor. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=363360&t=11082005

Out of stock there but you should be able to find it at a variety of places.

    4. Consider ditching the aftermarket magazines or step up to the Tactical Innovations magazines.

For a scope...I have a Mueller APV on my 10/22 and it is fantastic scope for the money. Mizzo Mule Guns (http://www.mizzoumuleguns.com/) is great to deal with. The APV may be a little overkill for what you are wanting...it is a 4.5x - 14x scope. If you want something cheaper, I have a Tasco Varmint 2.5x - 10x that has been decent for the money (Around $60 new IIRC).

What kind of scope specifically are you wanting? Price range? Adjustable? Max magnification? Min magnification? Red dot/holographic? Illuminated reticle?

Thanks for the info, I'll check into those sites. As far as a scope nothing real fancy, just a basic Tasco, or maybe I would pay around $100 for one. Maybe later I'll really put the works to it. I will polish the bolt though and check into the parts you suggested. Is it just me or is re-assemby of the bolt a pain in the butt? Probably just need to do it some more.

  5. At Walmart for $182 minus the tax and paperwork fee. I hadn't had a decent .22 rifle in a while and I always wanted a 10-22. I also picked up a 28 round mag and two boxes of Federal ammo for $9 per 500. I had a couple of malfunctions in both the factory and 28rnd mag but that was rapid fire and I thought the cheap ammo might have something to do with it but I'm satisfied and really like it. I bought the carbine. It's very accurate after a slight sight adjustment but I would like to buy a nice small scope.

    Any recommendations on a scope?

  6. I picked up a new Yugo underfolder at the gun show today. I'm quite happy with it and can't wait to put some rounds down range. I'll try to get some pics up later in the weekend.

You can drive them to the range in this Yugo underfolder.

    2yoycm1.jpg

Seriously, it looks like a fine weapon. I haven't bought any 7.62x39 for a long time but I picked up thousands when you could buy 100 rounds for $10. I guess those days are gone but I haven't been to a gun show in a while.

  7. I actually did the same thing a couple years ago. Strange thing was i called the girls friend and it really seamed to be a setup. After the girl left me and dad went looking for her car to see if she was legit and there was no car to be found.

After that incident i think that is the best way to handle those situations. We need to help everyone we can and i think that is a way to do so without putting yourself or your family in danger.

In this day and age of cell phones, that should be rare. But I would give some one the benifit of a doubt behind my locked door with my Glock on my side. They can either give me a number to call or they can leave.

  8. The "Guns in Bars" title is a scare tactic. I think the bill actually states that it will be unlawful to cary in a place that makes 51% or more of its proceeds from selling alchohol. So you actually won't be able to carry in what most people consider a "Bar".

What it really boils down to is that sheeple are afraid to be sitting next to someone who may be carrying a gun. What is really funny if you think about it, is that it is totally legal right now to carry into any McD's. HCP holders are no more likely to start blasting away here than say an Applebee's. I can guarantee more people carry in McD's than any place that serves alchohol.

Was that always in the bill or did they add that recently? If so, the term "Guns in Bars" is a downright lie. Technically, Applebee's is a restaurant that serves alcohol, not a bar or pub.

I will check the wording of the bill again, I did last year but didn't check out any new amendments.

  9. Well you notice that it is still called "Guns in Bars Bill" to scare the public, so I will bet that it will be killed in Nafieh's hand picked sub-committie.

I'm sorry to offend but the public is stupid, a bunch of naive dolts. They don't bother to read what the bill says or think logically about it. They don't realize that law abiding citizens who will carry are not allowed to consume alcohol while carrying. Since bars are for consuming alcohol there will be few if any law abiding permit holders wearing their handguns in bars and if there is, they will be sober and probably a designated driver. Those who will drink and carry are the type who doesn't care if there's a law or not, probably doesn't have a permit but carries anyway so what's the difference?

It will mainly affect the restaurant/bar business,(Applebees), and they will be there with friends and family simply to eat. No more dangerous than carrying in Walmart or Kroger.

But call it "the Guns in Bars Bill" and the public has an hysterical emotional response.

  10. I actually had to knock on some guys door back in the late 80s at 10:30 in the middle of BF Nowhere, close to Eagleville. I was with a friend when his old Beamer broke down on a gravel road and the closest farm house was 1/2 mile. I thought what he did was cool, I told him we had broke down and I needed to call a friend so without opening the door, he just told me to give him my friends number, my name and he would call him. He did and everything worked out alright but I'm sure he had shotgun in hand just in case.

  11. Passed April 30, 2007

T.C.A. 58-2-107. Emergency management powers of the governor.

    (m) During any state of emergency, major disaster or natural disaster, the state, a political subdivision or a public official shall not prohibit nor impose additional restrictions on the lawful possession, transfer, sale, transport, carrying, storage, display or use of firearms and ammunition or firearm and ammunition components

Remember Bredesen wasn't going to sign that bill at first.

  12. Remember what the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on">US</st1:country-region> government did to the <st1:City w:st="on"><ST1:place w:st="on">New Orleans</ST1:place></st1:City> residents after Katrina? Does anyone remember seeing the Feds attacking an 70 or 80+ year woman with a news crew capturing the event inside her home? Why? Because she had a revolver and they wanted her to surrender her firearm and leave her home.

I remember that very well, they are capable of attacking and injuring a little old lady. The very definition of Jack Boots.

  13. If they rule against us, we will ignore them.

That's exactly what I'm intending to do, if we got just 20 million of the 80 million gun owners to just say no, and we will shut down business and commerce until you retract that ruling and apologize for crapping on the constitution, I think we could force a change. I think Thomas Jefferson would want us to do that.

  14. Great article.

I've always tried to put myself in the shoes, or the mindset of new Americans back in the days that the Constitution was written and try to imagine how they thought. Their opinions and writings seem to be pretty much straight forward and accepted as the norm among the vast majority of new independent Americans. To me, the 2nd. Amendment was intended to express a right that we already had and that's for a man to own and keep his rifle or pistol to defend himself, his family, and his neighbors from indian attacks, criminal hooligans, an attack from an invading army either from another country or some tyrannical unconstitutional army from his own government. As a capable man it was understood that it was a duty to organize with his neighbors as a militia if needed to protect his city, state, or country from any and all criminal or unconstitutional attacks. The idea of a capable man owning personal firearms was accepted not only as an individual right but a duty to his family and country. I believe they envisioned a possible scenario in the future where some in the government might twist and turn and pervert the meaning of their patriotic intentions and attitudes so they wrote the 2nd Amendment and the Bill Of Rights as clear and simple as they could, meaning that every American citizen has an individual right to keep and bear his own personal arms, and also has a right and duty to organize in a militia if needed to protect his family, neighbors, and country.

And I believe it's as simple as that.

  15. I have a SOCCOM 16, and its sweet! You should get one, you will like it.;)

    3BlackRifles.jpg

Very nice collection, very nice. An M1A/SOCOM is on my list in the future. I had better not wait too long the way the political winds are blowing these days though.

  16. You are very right. But this was... 1994 I think and while I was a serious gun nerd, I hadn't been spending my own money on them for very long. My next gun was a Smith & Wesson 3913. I miss that one. ;)

I haven't had too many decent guns, I was always impatient and never saved enough for one until I bought my Kimber which was only $600 back in 97. The Smiths and Rugers seemed more popular back then. The only gun I sold that I could really kick myself for was a stainless Colt Python and I got that for a steal, $450. The autos I have owned were unimpressive.
