  1. Thanks Jack, what kind of Suppressor is that? How hard was the process? Go to LGS, fill out forms, wait....?   I was thinking of getting one, but the tax-stamp will likely cost more than the stinking device itself?!   - K
  2. Wow, what a little gem to shoot? Even my rookie-ness was able to hit 9 out of 10 times on the steel plate at 100 yds. And that miss I knew the instant the trigger let loose. That's w/ factory sights, and a cold-rainy day. Great little gun so far. Kids had a blast pinking tin-cans w/ it too. I bet w/ a nice scope you could have a tack-driver.
  3.   Thanks G, taking it to the range tomorrow! They have a rimfire line up w/ 22, 22wmr, and 17hmr:   http://ruger.com/products/americanRimfire/specSheets/8305.html   And she wants me to place another order for bulk ammo, since we can't find .22 locally. Is she a peach, or what?!?!   - K
  4.   Actually, sucker's got a Fiber Optic on the front! I agree though, she wanted to get something w/ the scope already on it... I'm glad we got the iron sights.   - K
  5. On the wife's suggestion, we acquired a .22 rifle today - The Ruger American Bolt-action rifle. We looked at the Ruger 10/22, but chose the bolt over the semi-auto... part of the reason for the purchase was so our kids have something to take w/ us to the plinking range when we bring our pistols to practice, and my oldest is a bit impulsive. Many times I've watched him blow through 10-rounds on the .22 pistol's, caring nary a whit for where they were landing. I'm hoping to teach a little trigger-control w/ the bolt. I also want to see how the Ruger American platform behaves. I've been contemplating a .308 version of that rifle.   And it has a threaded barrel - means I can get a suppressor for it, too.. tax-stamp here I come!    Have I mentioned lately how glad I am I married her?   Next item is a decent, affordable piece of glass!   - K
  6.   Laser toner from Xerox contains wax and magnetic particles in addition to the plastic colorant chips (which are actually grown by bacteria nowadays... fascinating stuff!) I believe they are neccessary for the process (e.g. all brands are this way). I dunno if that matters for the bullets, but I'd rather not put it through my barrel.   - K
  7.   YES! I tried many different makes and models before I purchased the M&P 9C for my concealed carry piece. I like it quite a bit. Shoots great, even I can have tight groups at 10yds, fits my hand well, and with the 12-rnd magazine (thank you Peace!), I find it easily concealable: I have a Desantis holster I wear around the 5 O'Clock area outside my pants, and something over top (coat, etc.) A wee big for a pocket-carry (pants pocket) IMO, but I've kept it in my jacket pocket many times with no-troubles. Use a 17rnd full-sizeM&P  mag. as my backup. Gives me 29-chances to GTFOOD! I like them odd's better than the 7 or 9 rnds. in my wife's gun!   - K
  8. My wife has a Ruger LC9s, and the thing is sexy as hell. Shoots great, love the trigger, I'd vote the Ruger.
  9.   Careful there... It looses effectiveness over time and frequently is manufactured with contaminants, e.g. not quite up for human consumption. I've read some stuff that gets deep into the chemistry, but long story short, it's not the cheap panacea it would seem. While effective, there are risks, and it's not a long-term storage option. Replace annually, or look into other options.
  10.   I read an interesting fiction book that had that sort of thing in the background, was an interesting read, too, I'd recommend it:   A World Made by Hand, by James Howard Kuntsler   While not a central focus of the story, it figured into the storyline repeatedly, and indicated such supplies could prove useful in some situations.
  11.   If you would like to go to the club one day, drop me a line. I recently became a resident of TN, and a club member as well, but would be happy to show you around.   - Kevin
  12.   Same here for the most part. That's actually one 'difference' I've noticed recently w/ my children vs. the way I grew up... half of my Christmas presents (sometimes more than half) were clothes, supplies, and things I needed for the year. New sweater, socks, underwear, jeans, school-stuff... I always got some Lego's and toy's, a new soccer ball, maybe a new fishing pole (but if my old one broke, my parent's bought me a new one), that telescope I used for years. Most of my Seasonal-haul was utilitarian in nature, masquerading as gifts (which is how I learned to receive those things). Today my kids get X-box points, games, toys, books (pleasure reading), maybe 1-3 new articles of clothing (but stuff they like, not what they need for school). My daughter naturally gets more clothing, but it's what she likes, and it's 'fancy' stuff - when I say I got new clothes for Christmas, it was the other half of my school wardrobe... not the Minecraft and Destiny T-shirts my son's are getting this year. I think lots of folks here had it similar. I'm not complaining/critiquing, just a subtle shift I've noticed over the years... seems endemic, too (same among our friends/peers). Curious to see the affect(s) it has on their thoughts and idea's. Personally I think it's a symptom of a far larger problem in our society, but I'd digress...
  13.   ROTFL! I'll have to remember that, just in case!
  14.   LOL! There's a Ruger Pocket 380 just begging to be put in her stocking.
  15.   Hmmm... and I was just talking to a holster-manuf. who turned down a sale to me suggesting I get a pocket-carry .380 for the summer! And the wife's having trouble limp-wristing the 9mm LC9s And it's Christmas!   It's like someone's trying to give me a sign or something?   -K
  16. LOL! Well, the wifey knows I'm shopping for reloading gear and a rifle, neither of which I currently have, so.... I could get a .22 rifle 'for the boys', but she'd know a .308 w/ scope isn't a plinker for the kids!
  17.   I'm a scotch man myself....   Highland Park is very nice, Balvenie double-wood is devine! Glenmorangie and Aberlour are also nice. Stay away from Laphroig and Macallan...There's a few others but I don't splurge on single-malts the way I used to. Good old reliable Glen Livet is still hard to beat, 12 or 18 year (21's not worth the $$$). But when it starts getting up to $5 or more per glass... I'd just as soon buy a good 6-pack of beer!   - K
  18.   Agreed... and really for me, speaks louder than many things on that topic? I know in some circles it's not polite to discuss, but it seems this is welcomed here.... That sort of 'slant' that's pervasive across the western media really speaks to me. I paid attention in History class you see, and maybe my HS teacher was better than most, maybe not, but he did make me think for myself, and when I notice things like this, it causes me to question simply "how could that be?", and there's really only one logical conclusion. Which begets further questions, which is uncomfortable territory for many, so I think the masses are content to parrot "the family" on their telescreens and stick their heads in the sand. It's going to be a real problem one day, as reality inevitably collides w/ delusion in catastrophic ways (e.g. only one reality will survive the encounter). I think we here are all in agreement about the topic, but it's the pudding of proof in my book. I don't know what other conclusion to possibly come to. Just my 2-cents.   - K
  19. Congrats to you and your's!!! Parenthood has been the single biggest agent of 'change' in my life. When you have children it really does change your perspective on many issue's. Good luck, and take some time to take are of your little lady. She'll need the rest, and it's a great time for Daddy and Daughter to get to know each other. With Christmas around the corner, your gifting options are wide open, but I scored big points w/ the Mother's Locket I bought after our 3rd one was born.
  20.   Yes, please do! Not only would I like to get a similar product for my wife, I jog occasionally, and worry about the 'bounce' as well.
  21. How do YOU get away with it?   - K   (not that I'm shopping for anything at all lately.. just, ya know, in-case I need a good excuse in the future or something.)77   :D
  22. Thanks Shotgunner, I didn't get a chance to look at those while there (they were PACKED!!! Buy Smith and Wesson Stock folks, they're going to have an AMAZING quarter going into year end...) I liked all varieties of the tritium and fiber sights they had there, despite their size (*the combo trit and fiber were smaller than the fiber only*), especially w/ the contrasting orange/red color frontsight, but the backsights that were there, didn't do much for me, especially vs. the factory one's. For the price, I'd rather buy a tritium and fiber front-sight only, and continue using the white-dots at the back. I did not get a chance to see any of the one-dot back-sights, but have watched a few vid's on Youtube, and like the way they look (w/ big U-channel). I believe if I got a set of those in tritium and fiber, I'd be happy, however for the price.... I wanna touch and hold them before putting down the plastic.
  23. The tritium AND FIber one's were my favorite, but still pretty pricey (and they didn't have anything for mine in stock anyways). I think I would prefer the green back orange front, but dunno if I Want to spend 100 bucks on it?   - K
  24. Thanks for the suggestions and information folks! Going to take a trip to the LGS this weekend and see what they have, what it looks like, etc.   - K
