  1. Since 2009 I've done -   2 x Combat Focus Shooting and advanced pistol handling with Rob Pincus   With Tactical Response- Fighting Pistol                                          2 x Advanced Fightiing Pistol                                         The Fight-Force on force                                          Immediate Action Medical                                          Active Shooter Response                                          The Red Zone                                          Fighting Shotgun
  2. When I took the Glock Armorers course 2 years ago they explained that due to ATF import restrictions, Glocks sold in the US came from Austria, and the Smyrna factory actually produced gubs for export to mostly central and south american markets. If folks are seeing guns with US stamps on them, then something must have changed.
  3. "Purposely throwing a handgun down just to show that it truly is drop safe is a bit extreme to me. I have seen other instructors do it but only on their personal guns. I'm not throwing mine down just to prove a point that I already believe". Dropping the gun isn't to demonstrate that it's drop safe, but rather to each you to not try to grab it if you do happen to drop it. More peoplke shoot themselves accidently trying to catch a fumbled gun. If you fumble it, let it go. Trying to catch it on the way down incerases the chance of sticking a finger in the trigger and causing a ND.
  4. My wife heard the interview today on NPR and then ordered the book for me on Amazon. Gotta love her.
  5. What type of range are you looking for? Indoor? Outdoor? Coal Creek has hosted Rob Pincus a few times so they may be open to hosting your classes. If an indoor range would work, I'd be glad to talk to them about it. Others on the forum here may have some better ideas on other local ranges. Anybody got any ideas? I've trained with Paul a number of times before and if we could get him here in Knoxville, it would be a great opportunity.
  6. Hey Paul, Great to see you bringing some training to Knoxville. I've trained with you at Tactical Response and was watching your site for upcoming training in the area. HTI would be great. I need a refresher. Any thoughts on running your other courses in Knoxville?
  7. TR occasionally offers a one day intro course, but any worthwhile training is really going to be a weekend course or longer. Check their website for schedules and details. Tactical Response
  8. Check out Fighting Pistol at Tactical Response in Camden, TN. I've done six courses with them and I'm going for my seventh this weekend. All the classes I've taken have been excellent. You csn also stay in the "team room" for free if you register early. The instructors stay in the team room also, so the learning continues in the evening, plus it's a great way to get to know others in the class.
  9. I don't know anything about the Suarez coiurse, but I've taken the IAM from Tactical Response. It was an excellent course, and nusrses and medics attanded my course also, and went away learning something. It is not a 1st aid course per se, but rather teaches you how to address the three most common causes of basttle field deaths. Arterial bleeding, tension pneumothorax, and obstructed airway. It's a lot of hands on and scenario training which helps youu learn the skills and techniques and how to perform them under pressure. I'm assuming the Suarez course is very similar. Either way if you carry on a daily basis, you should take one of these courses. It's more likely you'll find yourself in a position to save a life with these techniques than take a life with your gun. After taking this course I set up three seperate trauma kits. One I keep in primary vehicle, one in my range bag, and one I keep with me when working on the farm cutting trees. As i said I'm more likely to need these skills to save my own life or someones elses's rather than having to use my gun.
  10. I wouldn't put too much into it myself. However if you're worried about your ability to act in these types of situations, do some force on force training with someone like Tactical Response or DTI. This will give you an opportunity to actually react to situations as realistically as possible.
  11. if you want excellent training in dealing with GSW and other severe trauma oriented toward gun owners, take the Immediate Action Medical training from Tactical Response. Iknow, many people have issues with TR, but I've done five different courses with them and each one has been excellent, including IAM. They also include a basic trauma kit to use during the course and to take home with you. The course I took had an EMT and a nurse enrolled and they left learning a lot. Tactical Response.
  12. I've got the big dots on both my G19 and G26. Love 'em.
  13. I've done four different courses with Tactical Response including Fighting Pistol, Advanced Fighting Pistol (twice), Immediate Action Medical, and Active Shooter Response. Every course was excellent. One other good aspect to the Tactical Response course is that you can stay in the teamroom. This is the basement of James Yeager's house and students can stay for no charge. The learning continues even in the team room. I'd highly recommend their courses.
  14. Has anyone used a knife with the Emerson opening feature. I'm looking at a Spyderco Delica Wave which has the Emerson design. what do you think of it?
  15. Thttp://www.personaldefensenetwork.com/here's a new website/forum hosted by RobPincus of ICE. Looks like some godd information. Personal defense Videos & Articles by Personal Defense Network
  16. Check out the Combat Focus shooting class from Rob Pincus at I.C.E. He's got this coming up at Coal Creek Armory in May. Coal Creek Armory I've taken this twice over the years. I'd take it again but I have other plans for the date scheduled. Also check out Tactical Response in Camden TN for their Fighting Pistol course. Many here seem to bad mouth James Yeager, but I've found his instruction to be excellent and a great value.
  17. Or maybe we pay a $10 fee because we don't pay a state income tax which other states use to pay for any number of services it provides to residents?
  18. I'm just curious, but what amount of handgun training do recruits receive during academy training for POST certification? How many hours typically? Do they receive scenario training or just range work? No point to be made here. Just curious.
  19. 39-17-1309 would not apply because as said, you are not on school property. The point here is that even if he were on school property, he's still good as long as he doesn't handle the weapon.
  20. According to T.C.A. - check the last sentence below. 39-17-1309. Carrying weapons on school property. — (a) As used in this section, “weapon of like kind†includes razors and razor blades, except those used solely for personal shaving, and any sharp pointed or edged instrument, except unaltered nail files and clips and tools used solely for preparation of food, instruction and maintenance. (2) A violation of this subsection ( is a Class E felony. © (1) It is an offense for any person to possess or carry, whether openly or concealed, any firearm, not used solely for instructional or school-sanctioned ceremonial purposes, in any public or private school building or bus, on any public or private school campus, grounds, recreation area, athletic field or any other property owned, used or operated by any board of education, school, college or university board of trustees, regents or directors for the administration of any public or private educational institution. 21. I've been whitewater kayaking for over 25 years. At my boating prime about 10 years ago we thought we were pushing the limits with drops around 30'. That was enough for me. My kayaking buddies and I have developed a theory over the last several years regarding younger guys doing these bigger drops. We call it the "Turd theory":poop:. The idea is that even a floating turd will survive a drop like that 80% of the time. Not to say he hasn't got guts, but the odds are in his favor. The difference is that as you get older you realize that you have a lot more reasons to not risk the 20% failure rate for something like this. It constantly amazes me what people are capable of doing.
  22. You've mentioned auto openers as an option. Aren't these illegal to carry in Tn as per #7 below? Just looking for clarification. 39-17-1302. Prohibited weapons. — (a) A person commits an offense who intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs or sells: (1) An explosive or an explosive weapon; (2) A device principally designed, made or adapted for delivering or shooting an explosive weapon; (3) A machine gun; (4) A short-barrel rifle or shotgun; (5) A firearm silencer; (6) Hoax device; (7) A switchblade knife or knuckles; or (8) Any other implement for infliction of serious bodily injury or death that has no common lawful purpose
  23. I'll bet in 6 or so months this will end once the hype blows over, and the cost of paying for the extra security and police starts to add up. I mhave to figure the police are off-duty and being paid on the side by the businesses. If paid by the city that would seem to be an inaoppropriate use of resources and the same people that want the screening on Beale St. will start complaining about the lack coverage elsewhere.
