School is going to be mind-bending, but it's something I have been wanting to do for a while now and my company is paying for it, so I need to make good on their investment.  Hopefully it quickly becomes part of my routine and doesn't feel as out of place in my schedule as it does right now.

Good for you. I have yet to get a gig to reimburse me for any training. I would probably be more willing to if it was something that transcended the exact job I was in.

  2. David we are going to revolt.... not really. Sounds like you spend a lot of time worrying about keeping us happy. Thanks for everything. I know this is just a side gig for you.

You are better than me. I need to go back to school,  but can't stand the thought of it.  I barely get to sleep as is.  Just remember the best part of being in school is...well.. drinking to forget you are in school. Lol

Finished up my most recent build thinking it would shoot 5.56, turns out it throws flames.

Joking aside I was shooting some Monarch ammo that had considerably more flash than American made ammo. This picture was also the worst out of multiple magazines. Thought it was a funny picture regardless.

Someone has been buying ammo at Academy. Lol

    Are you dead inside???

Look at it man! LOOK AT IT!! :D

Srsly though, they're a boutique, semi custom, ultra limited run, ultralight mountain rifle. Switch caliber; .260, .308 & .358 with a sub moa guarantee that doesn't lose zero when you change caliber!

You lost me at "boutique". I don't relish paying extra just because a company decided to make less of them. I can buy a lot of other fun guns for $4800 that will see much more use.

    Just my 2 pennies...

  5. And here I was just going to say WD-40. That is all my Dad ever uses.

    (Prepares for the flaming)

I use some Rem-oil some, but have not found anything that makes me want to be loyal.

I'm somewhat of an Ithaca buff, but that's a new one on me! It appears to be in very fine condition.

Yeah my grandfather was a stickler for keeping things in order. I had never heard the name either. I know a lot of companies used to do that stuff though. Make a "value line" under a different name.

Dad said it had probably not been hunted with since before I was born. I am betting that was the last time it was shot too.

He had a bunch of old ones, but I had limited time for pics.

Neat.  I can guarantee you there is no serial number on it, so there is no need to disassemble.  Serial numbers were not required before 1968 and many, many old guns simply do not have them.

I always think it odd that '68 is the same year Seat belts were required in cars.

Thanks. I figured it did not have one.

  8. Over the holiday  I got to look over some of my grandfather's guns that my Dad has. He wanted me to look this one up.

It is a Western Arms Corp. Long Range Double. The last image is from the 2010 Standard Catalog of Firearms.

I wondered if anyone had anymore info. I could not find a serial number on any of the surfaces without disassembling it.

I told him I would bring it with me for better inspection, but he declined. Lol

    Thanks

  9. One Idea a friend was looking into was the large plastic tanks like they use for gas stations under ground. I think they can be 8 ft in diameter and are made to be buried. Plus is definetly water proof.  Lay in some boards for a flat floor.

Look here for ideas. http://www.atlassurvivalshelters.com They have lots of pics of their round bunkers. The use go overboard on the luxury features

I can't stop buying winchester 94s. They're all the same... but different.

A while back I traded some work for a 1974 '94, but then I saw a slightly newer, rougher one with a scope mount. I got it because it was a great deal (the guy swore he fired it, but the mag spring was TOTALLY missing lol). Now I can leave my nicer one is as is. I plan to use the other one when I need a brush gun.

Money aside, having multiples makes life easier. Same parts, same function, and familiarity.

You know, that's something many of us probably hadn't thought about. Maps, especially laminated forms. That's a great idea to add some to the bug. But for old folks like us, even in the suburban area, unless it's a desperate situation, we will probably stick it out here if at all possible.

In one way I am thinking of the yellow pages amd maps more for supply runs. No matter how much you have, if you can get more without negative interaction,  might as well. If everything goes totally south, no one issling anything new for a long time.

Maps are much more useful with a compass.

I have one in each of my bags. Lol But the maps I have are road maps. Not that I would travel the roads, but following them makes sense.  Roads are traditionally in routes that take advantage if the geography. I live in an area that is a little too populated for my liking, so moving to a more remote family members location would make sense for me.

Yellow pages is a good idea. To add to that line of thought I'll say paper maps. I keep a couple in each vehicle and an atlas on the bookshelf.

I bought a Rand McNally laminated book for TN and a few surrounding states I travel in. They cover all but the smallest roads and are easy to mark up and wipe off with a dry erase marker. Those stay in my car, but are easy to grab.

  14. I am not a "prepper", but I think having an emergency plan in place is important. There are always lists floating around of items you need to keep or at least find if something happens.

One thing I think people miss is the good old yellow pages. If things happen, this is a buffet of info as to where to look for items outside you immediate knowledge. And if things are really bad quick, Google might not be an option.

What are some odd things you guys think of?

  15. Thought it would be interesting to share.

My Dad is almost 70, retired, but still runs a full time landscaping company. He and Mom still only use wood heat, so he has to cut, split and haul a bunch of wood. I am 2 hours away, so helping out is limited by family and work hours. So I decided the best gift for him was to have a guy deliver and stack 2 ricks of firewood right to his basement door.

I told him to use the free time hunting and fishing :)
