It was insane how far those exits are apart from one another.

Congratulations. Again, congratulations. Apply for a job with Tesla in their rescue squad. With your impeccable attention to detail and careful forethought, you should be a shoe-in for someone to drive around in a Diesel F250 with a generator to rescue stranded Tesla motorists. It has been decades since I ran out of gasoline in a car. I am pretty sure I was a teenager and still new to it. BUT... If I am traveling across country or am going to be off-roading, I take spare fuel with me. Why? Because I'm not an idiot. And because things happen. And because Murphy's law is a bitch. Which goes back to me not being an idiot. Now, for an anecdotal story: Back in 2010, my wife and I decided to travel across country and see the American southwest. We were driving my 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser, which had the aerodynamic qualities of a flying cinderblock. We were on Interstate 40 somewhere between San Antonio, TX and Albuquerque, NM and had been timing our fuel stops to maximize distance between them without cutting it needlessly close. What we weren't expecting was to find that at two of the exits we were counting on, the gas stations had gone out of business and were abandoned. After I coasted into the third exit quite a distance later, on what had to be fumes and prayers, I topped off the tank and immediately headed to the nearest Wal-Mart Supercenter to buy a pair of 5-gallon fuel cans to begin carrying with us. That was my exposure to #### happening despite good planning. Now, I recognize that your planning and attention to detail and maybe even the Fairy Godmother assigned to you are all far superior to mine since you've never been in that predicament, but for me that proved the necessity of being prepared for the unexpected. And with a Tesla? You don't get that option. I hope that you are given enough advance notice of that level of disaster that you can be sure that you're in the right vehicle.

Hybrids make sense to me for a lot of reasons. Electric motors have a lot of advantages over traditional driveshaft locomotion. The ability to reliably make gobs of torque and put it to the ground is fairly impossible to ignore if you just consider diesel-electric locomotives as an example. That said, purely electric cars don't make sense to me for a lot of other reasons, the consequences of which are equally impossible to ignore. Things such as... ... I can siphon gasoline or diesel fuel from containing vessels (fuel tanks, other cars, etc.) if push comes to shove. ... I can tote and transfer fuel, even propane if relevant, to a stranded vehicle fairly easily and quickly. ... My ability to do either of those things doesn't absolutely require the power grid. I have joked with my Tesla-owning friends and asked them if their equivalent of a 5-gallon jerry can full of fuel is two long-haired cats in a box that you rub together to provide an emergency charge. They very seriously told me that, no, Tesla brings a gasoline or diesel powered generator to you, towed behind a gasoline or diesel powered truck.

First Generation (aka "Old") slide on left. Second Generation (aka "New") slide on right. In a move that has set Walther owners groups afire on social media, Walther has revised the optics cut on their new PDP Pro SD model, inspiring owners of first-generation PDPs to wonder if this is just a public relations move meant to smooth over hobbyist accusations that the previous design was flawed, or if it is a silent acknowledgement that the previous design really was flawed after all. The new optics cut is dimensionally the same as the first-generation, however instead of having a flat floor beneath the mounting plate and relying solely on interference fit and two screws to hold the optics plate and optic in places, the new design introduces recessed "recoil bossses" into which protrusions from new design optics plates will sit. It would appear that first-generation optics plates will be forward compatible with the second-generation PDP slides, but the reverse will not be true. Obviously, if second-generation plates have recoil posts descending from beneath them to fit into these recessed pockets on the new slides, then those second-generation plates would not be backward compatible with the flat, smooth floor of the first-generation slides. It remains to be seen if Walther or third-parties, such as C&H or other machinists, will be able to retrofit the first-generation slides for compatibility. All of this seems to tie back to a very controversial YouTube video made by an amateur engineer wannabe, posted last year. You can see it here. And of course, I would be remiss if I did not point out that the extremely reputable Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics did his own torture test of the first-generation PDP and found absolutely NO MERIT to the previous YouTuber's claims. I know that if I have to pick who I am going to trust between these two, it is Aaron. And physics. And Aaron understands physics. You can see Aaron's video here.

I never realized that the Hi-Power had such a religious following. Apparently as much, if not more so, than the 1911. Interesting.

Don't worry. The 2011 platform is never going to catch on either.

Here's another photo of the new FN. As usual, click it for a higher resolution look at them. PS: Anyone who says they don't like the way they look is nuts. IMO.

Gun: Staccato C2 Duo with Holosun 407K optic and Streamlight TLR7A Knife: QSP Penguin in D2 steel with solid copper scales Don't sleep on that sub $55 QSP Penguin, either. The action on them is excellent and scratches the fidget itch. The grind on the blade is razor sharp out of the box.

I never really understood the pricing on the FNX-45 but I guess I just assumed that I wasn't their target demographic for that one. The 509M on the other hand, in my opinion, offers everything right out of the box that most folks wish the Glock 19 offered. My only complaint about the 509M was that the sear is incredibly intricate, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is inherently unreliable. It's just not as simple and elegant as the sear in a Glock. But neither is the sear in an M&P or a VP9 or a Walther PDP or any other gun for that matter. The 509 pricing is much more in-line with the competition.

Oddly enough, I am starting to evolve my thinking about how essential an accessory rail is on a handgun. I still want a rail for a weapon mounted light but I also think that the variety of weapon lights makes the process of finding a quality holster incredibly challenging.

HK aside, I think you would be doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least give a Q5 SF a look. Or, wait for the new Walther PDP SD Pro and see how it stacks up.

Shadow Systems Corp just posted a video on social media that gave us all a few glances at what appear to be some new products heading our way. First was a trio of what appeared to be Glock 26/27 sized Sub-Compact models at the left end of the table. Nothing about the Glock 26/27 moves my needle, but what they showed next sure did. Unless my eyes deceive me, they pulled a play from the Parker Mountain Machine playbook (a-la their work with the Sig P320 Sub-Compact) and tossed those new subbie slides onto a full-size frame, paired with a custom length barrel and compensator which all results in a Glock 17 sized package. If that's the case... hold my wallet!

My eyesight isn't what it used to be, but my concealment is better than ever.

I'm in rural, southern Williamson County near Thompsons Station and Spring Hill. We got about 5-6" of the stuff again yesterday. I enjoy it, the kids love it, but I am ready for it to be gone. I just don't have the kind of outdoors gear anymore that enjoying this kind of weather really requires. Here are some pics in case you haven't seen enough of it yet. We have a Japanese Maple tree in front of our house. Last night after the temperatures began to plummet again and the snow began to turn to ice, I caught a few photos of the tree lit by some of the lights nearby. These pictures really don't do it justice. It was beautiful.

I added a How-To that might help mobile device users. It is in the Trading Post FAQ area.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The following screenshots were taken on January 16, 2022 using the Microsoft Edge browser on an iPhone. As time passes and the look and feel of both TGO and mobile web browsers change, these screenshots may not look exactly the same as what you see on your device, but the basics should remain the same. Please let me know if something is grossly out of date and I will update it. HOW TO USE THIS TUTORIAL: Just follow along by the numbers. I will add commentary before each photo, as needed. STEP BY STEP: 1. At the top right corner of a TGO forum page on a mobile device, you will see what IT folks call the "hamburger" icon. It is three horizontal lines stacked on top of each other and is commonly used to represent a Menu. Tap it. 2. Tapping the Menu icon will cause the main mobile menu to unfurl or display. There are a lot of other functions on the menu, but for the sake of this tutorial you want to click the option for "Classifieds" as shown in this next photo. 3, Once you tap the Classifeds option, the menu will change again to show you the options within the Classifieds context. There are several options here, but the arrow is pointing to the option to view New Classified Ads. Other options on this menu are: Classified Forums - This takes you straight to the list of all forums in the Trading Post area. New Classified Ads - This lists the new posts that you haven't read yet. My Classified Ads - This lists the threads that you started in the Trading Post forums. Buyer/Seller Feedback - This takes you to the main list of Buyer and Seller feedback. 4. Once you are at the listing of New Classified Ads, you can do a few more things to filter and sort the way the ads are shown to you. Near the top of the page, you will see a link for "Show Filters". 5. Once you click the Show Filters link, the menu will unfurl or display and you can modify various things. I recommend that you do not modify the "Show Me" option. It is set to show threads that were automatically tagged by the forum software as being Trading Post items. This is one way that we are able to hone the search to only show threads from the classifieds area. Once you have made your changes to the filter, click the "Hide Filters" link and the menu will roll-up again. Conclusion: Hopefully this helps you navigate the TGO Trading Post a little more easily and get the most out of it from a mobile device. Please let us know in the comments beliow if you have suggestions for improving this How-To.
