My job title is Toolmaker/EDM Specialist. I have been in the Machining trades for 36 yeas; minus a few years I took off to be a cop.
I am a Tool and Die Maker and have been working in EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) for the last 18 years. I’m mainly building tooling for the stamping industry right now.
The company I work for now has cut the hours of some employees. I have managed to stay busy so far, but I need to find something new. So… if you know anyone that needs a wire EDM guy; let me know.

I am ashamed to say (for firearms purposes) that Illinois is my home state and that I was a LEO in Illinois.
Illinois is in a race with California to see who can outlaw firearms first.
But to those of you that think this is a 2nd amendment issue…
The Illinois courts and the 7th Federal circuit has interpreted the 2nd as a protection of the states right; not the rights of the individual. Until the SCOTUS rules on whether or not the 2nd is an individual right; nothing can be done. There are groups trying to push the SCOTUS to make a decision on the 2nd; as guns owners I am sure we will not like the ruling they make.
Now let’s look at Tennessee. Does Tennessee recognize the 2nd amendment as an individual right? No. If they did you wouldn’t need a carry permit. You are allowed to carry in Tennessee because your legislators have given you the privilege of having a carry permit. They do not recognize this as having anything to do with the 2nd amendment.
I think it is important to understand this because if you do not understand where your ability to be able to carry comes from; you are in danger of losing it.
Being a former resident of Illinois I understand that the firearm privileges I enjoy do not come from the United States Constitution and I thank my Tennessee legislators.

I don't have any problem with hunting, although blowing away animals with high-powered weapons seems a pointless, no-contest affair to me. I suppose I would enjoy the fellowship of friends who are hunters.

I am not a hunter; I am a shooter. And I am proud of the fact that you will never hear me use the word “Hunting†to try to justify the availability or legality of any firearm to law abiding citizens.
Nothing shocks me any more. If any of you think that there aren't people in this country who would like to enact exactly this type of draconian anti-gun policy, you're wrong. Dead wrong.Hopefully the silent majority (many of us here) will not allow that to happen.
HOWEVER….. I remember that I laughed out loud when I heard that Hillary was running for the Senate in NY. I remember saying “WTF is going to vote for her?â€
I learned a lesson.

Mall Owners Have Been Looking For Anchor Store
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Bellevue Mall is in need of something to draw shoppers, and there could be help on the way.
Video: Cabelas Outdoors Store Coming To Bellevue Mall Cabela's is a sports and outdoors store that could be put in the place where the Dillard’s department store now resides.
Cabela's stores are unique and are designed to keep shoppers in the store.
The stores have become a destination in some cities and the owners of Bellevue Mall have been looking for a new anchor store for months.
Metro Councilman Charlie Tygard, who represents Bellevue, confirmed to Channel 4 News Monday afternoon that Cabela’s will be the new anchor store.
"I think the Bellevue community would roll out the red carpet,†said Tygard in a statement.
However, representatives for the mall are being more secretive.
"We cannot confirm or deny whether the property is under contract nor discuss prospective new tenants. … We are totally committed to the redevelopment of the mall,†said James M. Weaver, attorney for the owner of Bellevue Center.
Cabela's caters to people who enjoy the outdoors with a number of attractions inside the store such as a wild animal exhibit and an archery range.
There is no word yet on when Cabela's could open.

Thanks for the info. But is there any cheaper for just target practice? Now I use theReloads in the orange box. But I heard they would void a Glock Factory Warranty (if they found out)! Is that true?I use the Winchester White Box (WWB) from Wal-Mart for range use. They are about $22 for a box of 100 in Murfreesboro.
Would these be good for carrying?It depends on you application.
If your application is shooting someone inside a pressurized aircraft, or shooting someone and watching them die later at the hospital (provide they don’t have a weapon and shoot you); then a frangible round is a good choice.
If your application is to “Stop the threat†or to cause your opponent to be unable or unwilling to fire his weapon at you a frangible round is probably the worst choice you could make.

+1 for the M1 Carbine since the CMP is about to get a horde of them for the army to sell to deserving civilians at what we hope will be reasonable price points.
I'm picking my M1 Carbine up next week.
But on Steelharp's orginal question....
I would go with the AR platform, but I would go with an AR-10 not an AR-15.
The .308 is far superior to the .223 if you need to stop the threat of an armed opponent. But the .223 is great if you want something that is cheap to shoot and is deadly against paper targets or gelatin blocks.

I consider myself to be a reasonable person and I would say… YES.

i'm just tired of hearing the argument that cops somehow protect you.
I’m a former Police Officer and I don’t know of any cops that will tell you that. I see it in a lot of postings from gun advocates and I see it a lot in postings from cop haters saying the cops don’t want them armed.
Police are reactive, not proactive. I don’t see how anyone can expect them to be anything else or why this is even an issue. Most Police Officers I know believe that law abiding citizens should be able to carry.
In reading this thread I do have a question though…
I was a LEO in Illinois. In Illinois jurisdictions (as far as Police powers go) are not legally defined or limited. A sworn Police Officer in Illinois is a Police Officer anywhere in the state; his powers are only limited by the state line.
Also Illinois Police Officers are “On-Duty†24 hours a day. There is no difference in powers whether you are “on the clock†or “off dutyâ€.
Is Tennessee different?

I’m not up on Tennessee liquor law, but I would guess it is illegal for a restaurant that does not have a liquor license to allow the consumption of liquor on the premises.
I doubt you could be held responsible for that. However, if it was a restaurant that I wanted to frequent I would mention it to the owner. I would guess that would be the end of it.

It’s good that you have that opinion. But are you a sworn Police Officer? The laws of the state of Tennessee and your implied interpretation of the Constitution are not in agreement.
