  1. Off the top of my head... Bill's Pawn Great Outdoor Store Gander Mountain (not sure) Parkway Gun and Pawn McClanahans (???) in Humboldt Don't know what any of them charge.
  2. Is anyone aware of a good gun inventory program? I'm familiar with Excel, Access, Word, paper, etc, just too lazy to use those. I also found this thread: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/general-off-topic/4725-firearms-inventory-software.html but it is two years old. While it has good information, I'm just wondering if there is anything newer out there. Know of anything? Thanks
  3. I have two girls. I bought each of them a single shot .22 when they were 9. One was a Marlin, the other a CZ. I've never been secretive about guns to them. I let them help me clean them etc. before they ever shot. When they got older (13-14) I bought them a Ruger 10-22. Had one stock pained pink and the other purple (such things are important to girls). They loved to shoot at ballons stapled to a target. My youngest (now 15) is my hunting buddy and my oldest (now 19) is asking to go shooting at the range more because i've already told her she is going to get a handgun and permit class for her 21st birthday. The good thing about bolt action .22's with short barrels is you can shoot .22 LR, Long, Short and CB's. The guns are heavy enought that there is no recoil or sound with CB's. Then slowly work your way up to .22LR, then on to bigger stuff. Sound is sometimes as detrimental as recoil. Important things to remember: Teenage girls are not manly men that naturally love to shoot. Their motivations, interestests, approaches, thought processes, etc. are very different. Let them learn their way at their own pace, but under safe and diligent (not overbearing) supervision and patient instruction. Also, to keep them interested, it must be fun! Good Luck!
  4. I don't bow hunt, but have hunted from ground blinds with rifle several times with good success. Here are my thoughts: 1) great for kids as already stated, they can move around, etc. I suggest removing all sticks, leave etc from under the ground blind to minimize noise. 2) never had a problem with scent. My daughter shot a nice doe at LBL last year. Deer was one of three within 10 yards. Had 6 come within 25 yards a couple of years ago. they didn't smell me, but they did stare at me. Seems they knew that blind wasn't suppose to be there. Managed to shoot one of them. 3) I suggest useing some type of orange covering if you hunt on public land. I'm always afraid my blind will look like a bruch pile to a hunter in a tree stand. Somewhere i found a nice size piece of blaze orange plastic. 4)can be bulky by the time you carry the blind and something to sit on. 5)I've shot 5 or 6 deer from ground blinds in the last 4 years. So, i've don't hesitate to use a ground blind.
  5. I've got a P16-40 and love it. It can be a bit picky about ammo sometimes. For example, it doesn't want to feed Georgia Arms reloads. However, the GA stuff works fine in my Glock.
  6. Jackson, Nashville or Memphis is good for this gun show junkie!!!
  7. I guess I was in the wrong forum when I decided to post this question. Sorry about that. I carry at Glock 23. I have a buddy trying to decide between the P22 and Mosquito, so I posted the question on his behalf. His intended use is just plinking, but he likes reliable and very accurate guns even for plinking.
  8. Thanks to everyone...some great information. Keep it coming!
  9. I've got a 452 rimfire, the youth model in .22 (can't remember the model) and i had a 550 in .308. Quality, reliability and accuracy are great on all of them. As far as I'm concerned, a CZ rifle is a great gun for the money. I sold the .308 because I had a buddy who wanted a deer rifle and i couldn't bring myself to take it to the woods (it looked great). The 527 is on my list to get one day. Good luck.
  10. Does anyone have experience with both a Walther P22 and a Sig Mosquito? How does accuracy (group size) compare between them? What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks...
  11. TNTitan, Thanks for the post. That was a great review. I'm looking to get into reloading in the next year or so and have begun my research. That article is very helpful
  12. When the LEO goes back to his car to check me out, I have no idea what he can and cannot do. Therefore I assume he will find out that I have an HCP. I also assume that, like me, he doesn't like surprises at work. Of course his surprises could be deadly. I don't want him wondering if I am trying to hide something. At the end of the encounter, I want both of us to go home safe and sound. Lack of information can lead to confusion, confusion can lead to anger and anger can lead to really big problems. This is just my way of handling a traffic stop. So far it has worked great. And for the record, I was not armed on one of those stops and not once was I asked if I was armed.
  13. Since I've had my permit, I've been pulled over for speeding once and stopped at a couple of road blocks. Everytime, when I give my license to the officer, I make sure my HCP was on top of my DL. That way he is sure to see it, there is no confusion, and I don't have to start a sentance with "I have a handgun...". My thought is that he (LEO) and i are on the same side. If I work WITH him rather than AGAINST him, things will go much smoother.
  14. LagerHead, Would you mind sending me the same info you offered to send Drentshler? I sent you a PM with my email. Thanks Scott
  15. Trying to help a buddy out... He has a Colt AR15 that needs to be broken in. He said the manual states to only use 5.56 ammo for the first 20 shots during the break in period. After that you can use .223. He knows a 5.56 rifle will shoot .223 and he knows not to shoot 5.56 from a .223 rifle. Does anyone know why Colt says to use 5.56 for the first 20 shots?
  16. Rick, On July 7th, the City of Jackson voted down a councilman's proposal to ban guns in Jackson parks. I attended that meeting and shared several reasons why they should vote against the proposal. I have what I said to them in a PDF file and will be glad to share that with you. I'm sort of new here, so how do i get that to you?
  17. Never camped at Mousetail, but have camped at Natchez Trace many many times. I like Natchez Trace alot. You can hike, ride horse, ride bikes, motorcyles, of course camp, fish, hunt, and they even have a shooting range. It is close to Lexington if you need to go to town for supplies or just want to eat in air conditioning or want to go to church. Or if you don't want to go to town, you will never know Lexington is close by.
  18. Thanks for the information everybody. I have not heard of such a tax, but it is hard to keep up with everything.
  19. During lunch today, I was talking to a co-worker about reloading and he asked me if I knew about the new ammo tax coming in June. He claims the feds will start charging a 5 cent per bullet tax starting in June. I told him he was crazy (i try to keep up with such things and am not familiar with it). He was very adamament about it. Does anyone know anything about such a tax? I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but trying to stop a false rumor (i hope).
  20. I'm trying to get started reloading. What are some good books to read? I've ordered ABC's of Reloading. Someone told me the Complete Reloading Guide is good, but it seems to be out of print and rather dated...written in 1996.
  21. Hello everyone, First, this is my first post. Been reading a while, just not talking. Second, let me apologize for my first post being a "wet blanket". Before you get too excited about Chairman Obama backing off of an assault weapons ban, read this. INTER-AMERICAN CONVENTION AGAINST THE ILLICIT MANUFACTURING OF AND TRAFFICKING IN FIREARMS, AMMUNITION, EXPLOSIVES, AND OTHER RELATED MATERIALS I must confess I have not read this. I just now came across it in an email from gunlaws.com. As I understand it (according to gunlaws.com), Commrade Obama wants to sign some international treaty that restricts guns, relaoding, etc. in a manner that is worse than anything we've feared so far. All sources (I have been reading about this for a while now from several sources) seem to indicate this treaty will supercede our Constitution. How can that be done? Is there anyone that can shed more light on this "treaty"? If a frontal assault won't work, shouldn't we expect some sort of flanking manuvere?
