  1. I thought this was why we married women, huh?
  2. I’ve about decided people were not designed to live so close together.
  3. I have a kid who lives within walking distance of there. Not good.
  4. I sure wanted to go this morning, but here I sit tending a turkey on the smoker. Surely some of you got to hunt today.
  5. I shoot both 38 specials and 357 in my Rossi Puma. Some folks claim wadcutters won’t feed well in some lever rifles. I have the Rossi in 357 and an 1894 Marlin chambered in 44 Magnum. I’ve been happy with both. They are both older models and not recent production. I also have an 1894 Marlin in 38-40. It’s over a hundred years old. It’s fun to shoot, but you’d want to handload for it as well. I’m not trying to dissuade you from the 45-70. I’d just suggest you price ammo for it, and maybe shoot someone else’s. They are easy to sell if you get one and decide you don’t like it though. A 39 Marlin 22lr is sure a fun little rifle!
  6. Although the 99 Savage was chambered for a bunch of different cartridges, oddly, the 35 Rem was one they overlooked.
  7. I like your style!
  8. I cannot name a more perfect whitetail rifle than a 99 Savage EG chambered in 300 Savage. Maybe an R if you’re long range shooting over a field, or an F or T if you do a lot of walking or climbing, but the EG is the perfect all around whitetail rifle.
  9. You have no idea! I was lucky. When I acquired most of mine, you couldn’t give away a lever action rifle. Everyone wanted the latest whiz bang magnum bolt rifle. Deer were tough then.
  10. I’ve a model 18. It’s had many bricks of ammo shot through it It is a favorite plinker. The other one is an ATI 1911, also chambered in 22lr.
  11. 22 mag, 218 Bee, 32-20, 7-30 Waters, 307 Winchester, 348 Winchester, 22 High Power, 303 Savage, 300 Savage, 250-3000, just to name a few.
  12. What are you gonna shoot with it? For general plinking, a 22 Long Rifle is my cartridge of choice. Low recoil, low noise, and low cost. 45-70 is pricey cartridge unless you cast and handload. They also provide a considerably amount of recoil. Lever rifles chambered for revolver cartridges are a good compromise, and you can then carry the same ammo for your rifle and sidearm, which is neat.
  13. Any caliber. They made them in 30-30 if one so chooses.
