  1. I didn't think my wife would enjoy it, but she really did and keeps asking to go back, which is a terrific surprise. I'd add three suggestions to what you've already heard: 1) Walk through the basics before you get to the range. It's easier than yelling over the noise. 2) Try to go when the range isn't busy. Having some guy rapid-firing a .45 in the next lane wouldn't likely make her happy with the noise. 3) For the first few shots, just load one round in the magazine. That way, after she makes a really good shot, she won't spin around with her finger on the trigger and accidentally shoot you.
  2. I haven't decided, yet. Just trying to put all together in my head.
  3. I'm toying with mounting both a red-dot scope and a tactical light on a rail, which means the light would need to be higher than the scope or off to the side. Anybody know of a source for those types of mounts that I could browse?
  4. I've got a Galco I really like.
  5. 5.11 for me, too. I really like mine. It's a terrific piece of equipment.
  6. If we're going to forbid thugs and criminals and nasty people in the NFL, it means we'll be watching 7 on 7 games without anyone on the bench.
  7. How long do you think that should have been?
  8. This guy set a new record for a kayak drop. If I'd have done it, the kayak would have been filled with the yellow water instead.
  9. Before you go conquer the world, it looks like you have some laundry to do.
  10. I'll be at this course--hope to meet some of you there.
  11. The dent (without a hole) on the left is from a 5.7 x 28mm round. It just glanced off it.
  12. If you had posted about it, I could have saved my target!
  13. Grayslake, a suburb north of there. He's a big IDPA guy, but had never done much with rifles.

  15. You know how it is after a long day of shooting--you've been plinking at a 22LR-rated target at 30 yards with a Buckmark, and keep getting that itch to hit it with something else. Well, I'm a weak man, and I shot 1 round of 32-grain 17HMR at a target designed for 22LR. I know this is cheap steel, but I was still impressed with the clean through and through hole it punched: At least I hit it with one shot!
  16. We had a great time last weekend. A friend flew down from Chicago, and we spent a half day at the indoor range, and then a full day at an ourdoor range. I didn't get many pictures, and the ones I did are iPhone-qualty, but here they are. Here's what we planned to use in turning money into noise (we didn't use but a small portion of it): We were the only ones there all day. We set up a spotting scope and then shot off two different benches. We put some clays on the ground at 40 yards, a self-resetting plinking target at 30 yards, and a paper target at 70 yards, and another paper target and clays and 100 yards. In this shot, the 100 yard stuff is in the shadows and out of sight. This is my friend walking back after setting more clays. We did some handgun stuff at the outdoor range, but mainly rifles: Steyr Mannlicher Scout .308 w/ Leupold FX-II 2.5x28 IER Scout Scope Cooper 57M LVT .17 HMR w/ Leupold VX3L 3.5-10x56 Savage 12 Long-Range Precision Varmint Dual .204 Ruger w/ Leupold VX3L 6.5-20x56 FN PS90 tri-rail w/ EOTech 5.11 and Surefire Scout Of these, the PS-90 is by far the most fun. And the one we could shoot the most accurately (taking out clays at 100 yards in the first shot) was the Steyr, oddly enough. It's the lightest and has the cheapest scope. Go figure.
  17. Welcome, Timothy.
  18. It's a great site. I owned it for 6 years and then transferred it to a friend. I'm "David" over there--I think we have 16,000+ members.

  21. Welcome! I'm in south Nashville, as well, in the Nipper's Corner area.
  22. That thing could probably use a nice Pearce magazine extension, assuming they make one.
  23. None, thank goodness. There was a spot in my eye for a couple of hours, but I think it was just from the pressure. It went away, and there's not even any indication that it was hit. I did have to confess about saying a few bad works, though.
  24. Yeah, it was turning into evidence that could be used against me.
  25. Dave, are these L.E.D. bullets sort of like tracers? Sorry--just couldn't resist that typo.
