  1. I think the people saying that are in sales for wired systems. I looked into it very carefully when we remodeled our home last summer. In the end, I decided to go with wireless everywhere I could. As noted, some components require wires, but most don't. I've been super happy with the system. No false alarms. No battery issues. Install is much cleaner. Where it makes the MOST difference is on windows, since they typically drill a hole right where water will eventually get it...and rot the wood. The glass breakage components are the coolest--until you drop a plate in the kitchen.
  2. Democracy is not a good form of government...long term. The best form of government would be a benevolent dictatorship run by a real leader with vision and courage and honesty. Since that's not likely to happen, a democracy takes the power away from government and does what's right. But slowly, pressed by convenience and laziness and fear, the people give that power back to government as they are sucked in by the promises that government will "fix" everything. That process is so slow, though, and the promises so appealing, that the only people with the courage to see it like it is are marginalized as fringe thinkers who are nothing more than alarmists. So the slow crawl continues. This slow movement cannot be reversed save for events so painful, severe, and disruptive that making the hard choices seems better than accepting the way things are. For that reason, I'm no longer in favor of fighting the little battles. I say, the sooner things get really bad, the better off we'll all be. It's only then that the people as a whole will say "enough" and (hopefully) reverse the cycle. Let the economy implode, let government make huge mistakes--I don't care. It's the best way to come to our senses, understand again what's at the core of freedom, and why we should fight for it, literally and figuratively. Yes, I know we're not a democracy but a republic. But that's just technically. We're acting like a democracy, and every significant movement in history has sprung from the minority. Another way to say that is this: the majority are often wrong, and they are in our country. So let them get the country they deserve, and let it happen quickly.
  3. That's what I understood, too. Though apparently if the trials go well, it'll be rolled out steadily. It'll be interesting to see how much the pricing drops. Right now they're crazy stupid expensive, though I see them in the low $3 thousands.
  4. You AR-15 and variant folks, what do you think of the FN SCAR? I don't have either and don't plan to get either, but I'm curious about whether or not we're at the beginning of a sea change in terms of migrating from one platform to another, or is the current lot of AR-15 and variants so entrenched (and economical) that they'll exist alongside each other for decades?
  5. Very cool. Thanks!
  6. I'm relatively new here, so I wasn't aware of that. As a buyer, all I care about is whether or not it was stolen or used in a crime. I'm not paranoid about it, but if I was going to protect myself, that would be the reason.
  7. Why's that?
  8. I've purchased two guns from individuals, both of whom participate on the board and seem like stand-up fellows. Looking over the form, it looks like it provides significantly more protection for the seller than the buyer. What I would want to know as a buyer is where it was purchased from, when it was purchased, and then have some statement that it was lawfully obtained.
  9. Thanks guys!
  10. I'm going to feel stupid when someone point me to it, but for the life of me I can't find a link to that suggested form for classified sales between individuals. Thanks much for any help.
  11. It's cheaper than .45, and always available.
  12. If they terminate you because of that, it might be worth chatting with an attorney about any cause of action you might have. Unfreakin' believable. Though I probably wouldn't have mentioned it like you did. For the same reason I won't use an NRA sticker, although I belong.
  13. Wow! You did a great job. Very impressive.
  14. Next time, if you would, please be a little more succinct. My life is too busy to read these long, drawn out answers.
  15. Thanks. Looks like I'll try it out, then! I enjoy wandering and looking. I don't think I've ever purchased anything at one, but it's still fun.
  16. Dang. I've got my health insurance through BCBS, but I had NO idea they were into reloading!
  17. How do these shows compare to the ones at the Nashville Fairgrounds?
  18. I searched to see if someone else had posted about it yet, but couldn't find anything. We watched that movie tonight, and it's very moving...and memorable. It's not like it's great acting or cinematography, but the story line--which is based on real events--really makes you appreciate the loss of war. I would highly recommend it.
  19. I haven't shot one of those, so I can't really say. Compared to a Ruger LCP, it's a lot more solid and a lot better build quality. Tolerances are remarkable. The only thing I don't like about the gun is the sights.
  20. Here you go. It's not a great pix, and I've upgraded the grips, but it's a nice gun. Less recoil than I expected. Trigger breaks like glass--very long DAO pull, though.
  21. Let's just go with TN + TX and the other 48 can do their thing. I really hate the idea of including Arkansas, though it might be a convenient land bridge. And we might want to invite HI, since we'll need a place to vacation.
  22. I have one (along with a PS90) and really enjoy both. A lot of people poopoo on the guns, but I enjoy different guns, and both of these are. The pistol, for instance, has a huge capacity, is very accurate, and has very little recoil. I shoot it regularly out to 25 yards and it's really dead on. On a rest, you can shoot it accurately to farther than that. Two warnings: the muzzle flash is nearly blinding at night, and the extracted cartridges hurt. It's not a personal defense weapon for me (although it's easy to carry that way and I have a good holster for it), but it's a real hoot to own and shoot. It's very well made, too. If you ever want to meet me at the range some time, you're welcome to shoot it.
  23. I like the principles in the Dave Ramsey show, and follow them (expect the tithing thing), but I don't listen to any talk radio. None of them are balanced, and they promote the further polarization of America, in my opinion.
