  1. I still have the same curiosity that compelled me to take apart radios as a kid so using some various youtube videos and an exploded parts diagram I detail stripped my 1911 about a month ago. I think the sickness had taken hold as I am considering getting a trigger kit and attempting to learn how to do a little gunsmithing while keeping the stock parts in case I bugger it up.
  2. TLDR.
  3. Spikes & a few others have theirs on sale for $90 too. I think a lot of folks have been left holding the bag with way too much stock after The Great O-panic of 09.
  4. I love this video. I have seen it at least half a dozen times and never cease to tear up at it. To all current and past Members of our armed services, Thank you and God bless.
  5. Yep, the violation was for gun possession. I was working in South Memphis at the time and I think it was around 1.5 to 2 years ago. I did a quick search on the Commie Appeal but couldn't find it.
  6. Or I was unlucky because of the extended time closed for xmas and new years and it was just extra busy.
  7. Things are going quicker than I had initially planned, I found a full Moe set complete with Mil Spec hardware kit for $120 and I ordered a sling adapter from this guy just because of the name of his website. If it sucks, it was only $20. It is amazing how much money you can "find" once you get started.
  8. Thanks!
  9. What he said Bonedaddy
  10. I was wondering about this same issue as I just recently became aware that there is a pro-shooter/instructor/expert guy named Chuck Taylor. I just like my shoes (Converse All-Stars AKA Chuck Taylors) So to one of the admins, could ya change my username to Chucktshoes ? Thank you, much appreciated.
  11. You know, that really makes all kinds of sense.
  12. I remember when that happened and IIRC he wasn't actually charged, he was locked up for a parole violation, and after a couple months they let him back out.
  13. It t used to be a really slow center, I think more people are starting to head there instead of Summer. But it was pretty busy. got there @ 8:30, out at around 11.
  14. I wondered that too for a long time, then I spent a year and a half working in South Memphis. The trick is that they keep the tension on the pants with their thighs. Imagine trying to walk while keeping your legs in a position similar to parade rest.
  15. No, just polished up on the native tongue of Memphis.
  16. I should have, but I used the midtown loc. as it is just up the street from work. In reality it wasn't that bad for a Memphis DMV, only 2.5 hours.
  17. ...and I think my permit will be in the mailbox by the time I get out of here.
  18. I'd rather learn my breakdancing techniques from Riddick....
  19. I took your advice and found a LMT upper assembly - BCG and charging handle for $485 that I think I have just about decided on. LMT 16" M4 Carbine Upper Receiver Group combine that with the Magpul MOE stock/grip set from brownells in FDE and I am starting to get a pretty good idea of what she is going to look like.
  20. Thanks. I saw the sale on the DPMS LPKs, good to know they are ok. will order one of them. Anybody know anything about DS Arms uppers? Reviews are scarce, but all that are out there seem to be good (checked arfcom) and right now they have an upper on sale for 275 minus the BCG and charging handle.
  21. With all these .32's around inbred Austrian archdukes better watch out!
  22. Tomorrow I pick up my stripped lower and begin my build in earnest. I have been researching ARs for a while and decided that even though I haven't handled one since BMT in '96 I am gonna jump in and do it whole hog and build it myself. I have a basic idea in my head of what I want, but I don't have experience with what manufacturers make quality parts, who is overpriced and who to avoid at all costs. This is where y'all come in. I will use this thread throughout the build and solicit input on parts and design. Internally I am leaning towards mostly USGI and externally fairly basic with a few personalized touches. I am not looking to build a high end super mega ultra .000001 MOA tacticoolio monster rifle. I do want to end up with a solid, reliable battle rifle that can take a little abuse yet still perform when it needs to. I don't care about pretty, I like functionality. So first question, I need recommendations on a LPK. what are the pro's and con's of some of the different manufacturers? I do plan on having the trigger worked over, but not too much, so who makes a good LPK at a good price? Thanks in advance for the help.
