There's Something Rotten in the State of Tennessee
Volphin replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Many establishments that make me or my family wait to be seated come with live entertainment! I often see their decals peeled off by other people's unruly kids. Oh well. -
As long as the weapon stays concealed, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Proof that you can conceal easily.....

When the shotgun came out I just ROFLMAO! A bit extreme? lol -
Personally, I think we should kill as many hogs as we can and fast. They are quickly destroying other wildlife habitat. Tasty too.

Carry at Calhoun's in Lenoir City - legal or not?
Volphin replied to JAB's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I was there 2 weeks ago. Not posted. Calhouns is private property and a private enterprise. It is not park property, and the roadway to it is public domain. I ate at the one on Bearden Hill at lunch today too BTW. Carried and no postings of any kind. -
I carry both concealed and openly at times with an IWB. I was walking into my local Wal-Mart for some groceries on my lunch break and was going OC. Mind you, it's not fully OC. Well as I reached the buggy area and was pulling one out, I hear this guy's voice say "I feel all safe now!" in a super sarcastic tone. He must have been walking out... I didn't even see who it was, and did not react at all to the comment. I simply went shopping. This is the first time I have EVER heard anyone say something negative about my OC. I hope he put on his seat belt when he left. I carry for the same principal... just in case. Anyone else ever been jeered by a disgruntled anti?

Last year, I was driving to work and this guy in a mini van comes roaring up behind me. I'm cruising at 65 with heavy traffic in my lane (middle) and boxing traffic to the right and left. Hey, it's rush hour... enjoy the ride right? Well this guy just goes freaking ballistic on me. He starts waving his arms, pounding the dash and screaming at me. I can tell this because he is literally 12 inches off my rear bumper. I wash the windshield... liberally. OOOOO, he's madder than hell now! lol My right foot hovers for a second over the brake pedal and then I think better of it because he's obviously not paying attention and his reaction time will be too slow. So I just try to ignore him. But I can't help it. I love watching him rant and rave. I start to chuckle... then belly laugh. Just the sight of this 40-ish guy going ape tickles me somehow. Traffic eventually clears on my left and he whizzes by me, making all kinds of friendly gestures, to amuse the guy 20 feet ahead. You have a nice day now... hear? People are downright funny sometimes.

Just a note of thanks for all the replies! I don't get to come by as often as I'd like, but when I do, there are always friendly, informative posts from fellow shooters. Thanks all, and I'll let you know how the reloads turn out. V

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more, Or close the wall up with our English dead! In peace there's nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility; But when the blast of war blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger: Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood. Charles Shumer "We can change Constitution
Volphin replied to Glenn's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
What these "progressives" fail to understand is that there are those who have sworn to defend the Constitution against ALL enemies, foreign AND DOMESTIC. It's time for a little Common Sense IMHO. -
What is the usage curve for reloading .45? I mean, when does it make better sense (in rounds used) to reload rather than purchase the ammo outright? Thanks in advance for your thoughts...

Shot Wolf hollow point and std for years exclusively in milled AKs and milled sks. Probably 10,000 total rounds. Never had a failure. Had poor aim plenty of times, but that was all in my aging eyeballs. HTH

Now that is FUNNY! Best post on the thread.

That's not sad. That's incompetence and poor societal/situational awareness. And if they are THAT gullible, they shouldn't be in LE in the first place. But I guess it's true that those who can't do, teach. IMHO

Then I retract it. I didn't check the source... I should have, sorry guys. I still think he is a loose cannon. (pun intended)

Obama wants what he wants. And he wants to destroy our way of life. Not just our 2A rights, but the entire fabric of this country. <example retracted> V

This video was shot at the corner of West Sahara and Las Vegas Blvd. I travel to Vegas often and have shopped at the souvenir shop in the background. Also, please see the Stratosphere Hotel and Tower in the background. Looks like lunch rush hr. FWIW, Nevada has no formal codified Castle Doctrine but uses CA as a guide. I know, sounds funny huh? A bill that would have codified the Castle Doctrine in Nevada was introduced in 09. In the past, Nevada has relied on California precedent when a citizen has had to protect him or herself in their home. This bill would have strengthened the defense of any Nevadan who needed to use force in defense of themselves or their families. The bill was introduced by Harry Mortensen (D-Las Vegas) and that's all there was to it. He put no effort behind it and never seemed to truly understand the importance of the issue. It died in committee. So no, the car would not have fallen under CD. BUT, Clark County has always been pretty gun friendly IMO. You just have to be aware that casinos are off limits. I would have pinned his little drug crazed butt between my front bumper and the car in front of me at the earliest opportunity. And when he raised the crowbar once again I would have applied pressure judiciously to the accelerator pedal until the threat was neutralized. Afterward, I would have gotten out and helped the new Lt. Dan to the curb for the bus. Have a nice day now, ya hear?

I vote and always take the kids. It's important for them to understand their responsibilites and rights from an early age. While in line, I also remind them of those who laid down their lives for those rights, and that many countries do not enjoy the same.

I know which way I'm taking home next time I have business in Nashville! Yum!

I'd take the Mil-Spec and two extra mags full of hollow points.

Hi guys, was wondering if anyone needed a partner for deer season or turkey season this year.

This was posted on another forum by one of my friends in Texas... I was laughing so hard I had to pass it along to all of you as well. Enjoy! ############################################ I had this idea that I was going to rope a deer, put it in a stall, feed it up on corn for a couple of weeks, then kill it and eat it. The first step in this adventure was getting a deer. I figured that, since they congregate at my cattle feeder and don't seem to have much fear of me when we're there (a bold one will sometimes come right up and sniff at the bags of feed while I'm in the back of the truck not 4 feet away), it shouldn't be difficult to rope one, get up to it and toss a bag over its head (to calm it down) then hog tie it and transport it home. I filled the cattle feeder then hid down at the end with my rope. The cattle, having seen the roping thing before, stayed well back. They weren't having any of it. After about 20 minutes, my deer showed up -- 3 of them. I picked out…a likely looking one, stepped out from the end of the feeder, and threw.my rope. The deer just stood there and stared at me. I wrapped the rope around my waist and twisted the end so I'd have a good hold. The deer still just stood and stared at me, but you could tell it was mildly concerned about the whole rope situation. I took a step towards it…it took a step away. I put a little tension on the rope and then received an education. The first thing that I learned is that, while a deer may just stand there looking at you funny while you rope it, they're spurred to action when you start pulling on that rope. That deer EXPLODED. The second thing I learned is that pound for pound, a deer is a LOT stronger than a cow or a colt. A cow or a colt in that weight range I could fight down with a rope and with some dignity. A deer-- no chance. That thing ran and bucked and twisted and pulled. There was no controlling it and certainly no getting close to it. As it jerked me off my feet and started dragging me across the ground, it occurred to me that having a deer on a rope wasn't nearly as good an idea as I had originally imagined. The only upside is that they don't have as much stamina as many other animals. A brief 10 minutes later, it was tired and not nearly as quick to jerk me off my feet and drag me when I managed to get up. It took me a few minutes to realize this, since I was mostly blinded by the blood flowing out of the big gash in my head. At that point, I had lost my taste for corn-fed venison. I just wanted to get that devil creature off the end of that rope. I figured if I just let it go with the rope hanging around its neck, it'd likely die slow and painfully somewhere. At the time, there was no love at all between me and that deer. At that moment, I hated the thing, and I'd venture a guess that the feeling was mutual. Despite the gash in my head and the several large knots where I had cleverly arrested the deer's momentum by bracing my head against various large rocks as it dragged me across the ground, I could still think clearly enough to recognize that there was a small chance that I shared some tiny amount of responsibility for the situation we were in, so I didn't want the deer to have to suffer a slow death, so I managed to get it lined back up in between my truck and the feeder - a little trap I had set before hand…kind of like a squeeze chute. I got it to back in there and I started moving up so I could get my rope back. Did you know that deer bite? They do! I never in a million years would have thought that a deer would bite somebody, so I was very surprised when I reached up there to grab that rope and the deer grabbed hold of my wrist. Now, when a deer bites you, it's not like being bit by a horse where they just bite you and then let go. A deer bites you and shakes its head--almost like a pit bull. They bite HARD and it hurts. The proper thing to do when a deer bites you is probably to freeze and draw back slowly. I tried screaming and shaking instead. My method was ineffective. It seems like the deer was biting and shaking for several minutes, but it was likely only several seconds. I, being smarter than a deer (though you may be questioning that claim by now), tricked it. While I kept it busy tearing the tendons out of my right arm, I reached up with my left hand and pulled that rope loose. That was when I got my final lesson in deer behavior for the day. Deer will strike at you with their front feet. They rear right up on their back feet and strike right about head and shoulder level, and their hooves are surprisingly sharp. I learned a long time ago that, when an animal -- like a horse --strikes at you with their hooves and you can't get away easily, the best thing to do is try to make a loud noise and make an aggressive move towards the animal. This will usually cause them to back down a bit so you can escape. This wasn't a horse. This was a deer, so obviously, such trickery wouldn't work. In the course of a millisecond, I devised a different strategy. I screamed like a woman and tried to turn and run. The reason I had always been told NOT to try to turn and run from a horse that paws at you is that there's a good chance that it'll hit you in the back of the head. Deer may not be so different from horses after all, besides being twice as strong and 3 times as evil, because the second I turned to run, it hit me right in the back of the head and knocked me down. Now, when a deer paws at you and knocks you down, it doesn't immediately leave. I suspect it doesn't recognize that the danger has passed. What they do instead is paw your back and jump up and down on you while you're laying there crying like a little girl and covering your head. I finally managed to crawl under the truck and the deer went away. So now I know why when people go deer hunting they bring a rifle with a scope to sort of even the odds.

The Barr Code Police Run Roughshod Over Lawful Handgun Owner
Volphin replied to Sean's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'd be filing a fed suit so fast it would make their head spin, with damages. So theft is their new policy? That will never fly in court. That AG is WAY off base. -
My mags stay fully loaded at all times. That includes my rifle mags too. I usually carry with an extra clip as well. Never had any issues at all. HTH
