I'm getting hosed by the IRS this year!!!
Handsome Rob replied to gregintenn's topic in General Chat
Hey, try being a foreigner here, legally! I have to pay into all the unemployment insurance, pension, medical, retirement funds & I'll never get to claim a damn penny of it back! -
'Tennessee $300 bill' Keep it, love it, shoot the heck out of it, shoot it some more, love it a bit longer. EVERYONE needs at least one lever!

Does Black Powder have a shelf life?
Handsome Rob replied to battleop's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
From what I've read on American Longrifles & the Muzzleloading forum, black powder basically never goes bad. Even if it gets wet, it can be dried, re-ground & still be just as potent. It's only 3 very basic elements... -
Stupid S### People Say...on FB Gun Pages
Handsome Rob replied to glowdotGlock's topic in General Chat
I'm done with the lot of them. Between the .22 gougers, the $600 Glocks, the $1500 no-name ARs & the rampant & obvious criminality ("Someone sale me a cheap gun tonite. Will trade tools or stereo. Nqa") it's just an utter crapfest. I mean, when you see groups like 'Tullahoma pistols, under $100' you've just gotta shake your head. -
Bet he bought it on Facebook for 3 grand. The names 'NcStar' & 'Barska' probably feature heavily.

Okay, I'm pretty well sold on the idea after the 11 rounds I managed at the range yesterday (I got saddled with 'that' guy. There was nearly an 'incident'....) Recoil is manageable, but muzzle flip with the short barrel is bad enough that even with the scope on 2 power at 100 yds, I lost the target. I'm going to order the 4th (best of all worlds) break that Dolomite just posted. I'd be tempted by the spiky, tactic...*BLEEAARCH*... sorry, couldn't even say it.

Holy crap! I was giggling so much after the first shot I completely missed the second :)
-
I also didn't know that. Thanks Dave, I will!
-
Nerts. That's just for the shroud. I was just going to say that at that price, screw't! I'll order one & just see for myself!

Ah, just gave it a googling. Probably a combo of both. If at all. I'm split on the possible benefits (reduced recoil, reduced flip, possible greater accuracy potential) vs the negatives (extra weight, extra barrel length, extra noise, knocking the glasses off the poor bastard next to me...) I guess I'm looking for an opinion as to whether it's worth considering right now. The rifle is neither a dedicated hunting or target gun, although it'll spend most of it's time on the range. I still need it to be handy for those 20yd, thick brush hog hunts as well as the cross canyon elk & antelope hunts.
-
I honestly don't know the difference. I'm wanting whatever it is that decreases muzzle flip & recoil.....maybe!
-
I didn't know such a thing existed. This may be the ideal solution. I'm still not 100% sure I'll even need to bother about a brake. I doubt I'm a good enough shot to really be able to notice an accuracy advantage over the standard barrel. The recoil doesn't bother me at all, I was thinking more about the muzzle flip & recoil affecting over all accuracy at longer range. I have so little experience past 500yds (& that from many years ago) that I don't really know what affects what, & what can or need be done to improve things. If you see what I mean!
-
Can someone with experience tell me: Does adding & removing a muzzle break affect accuracy/POI at all? I'm considering adding a break to my .308 hog hunter purely for range work, but I'm aware that the extra muzzle blast & noise reflected backwards makes shooting without hearing protection a huge no-no. I'd like the added recoil reduction for longer distance shooting (hopefully beyond 500yds) but it's also a hunting rifle & plugs are no good in the woods so it would have to come off for that.

Again, the Classic (see my link for details) would be a great introduction into traditional archery. Where abouts are you?

Haven't missed one in 6 years! I'll be there from Thursday onwards.

Kinda like a Lay-R-away plan....huh, huh? :) That's actually how I built mine. Bought a part here & there as I found them on sale/used & cheap & got up & running in around 4 months & well under $500

You thinking he might try a Big Wheel drive by? :D
-
Any particular reason to steer clear?

Dude, for 5 bills, keep a weather eye open for a used AR. Probably a poly lower version, but I'm sure you can find one. Hell, a little shopping around & you could build one for that. Man, when I was 6 I got a used bike for my birthday. I reckon if had had got me the 1980 version of an AR I think I'd have died out of sheer happiness!

I didn't realise the barrel program was done away with. That sucks donkey sausage! :( In all honesty I would imagine a .22-250 would be a little much. That's a damn big case to try a reduced load in. Up to 400yds, there's not much a .22-250 can do that a .223 can't, at around ¼ the cost for store bought ammo.
