  1. Leadership of both the House and Senate are trying to gloss over the episode. Speaker and Lt Gov Release Statement Notable for What it Does Not Say | Blue Collar Muse
  2. I suspect that a Marine Veteran of two tours "over there" is familiar with how to operate a safety on what was a reasonable facsimile of his duty weapon. Is it possible he was waiting to fire to ascertain of it was in fact LE or something quite different. I know I would be hesitant to start a fire fight with my wife and son in the same small house. The admitted wait for over an hour to attempt medical care is what is most troubling to me. You know they had people on hand if they were going to serve a "no knock warrant" in case one of their own was wounded. And if that is what they were doing, why run the sirens? Something just does not add up here. I spent nearly a year and a half working out in AZ (around Metro Phoenix) starting in early 2008, it is a very dangerous place. I saw more people open carrying there by far than I ever do here in TN. Talking with the "Lizards" as the locals call themselves, they don't do much in the middle of the day outside, and they go armed when they leave their homes.
  3. I don't think we have all the story yet is all. Video is chopped up, (would like to see it all uninterrupted myself). IF he was really a bad guy, that is one thing, being accused of being a bad guy is another. If it is proved that he was "living the thug life" then all this talk is moot, but that has not occurred yet. Officials have said they may never release the warrant or the information used to produce it.
  4. I don't get the tacticle decisions, if they had intel that this was a bad guy, why not wait for him to exit the house walking to his car to take him into custody? Why choose to let him have a position inside the house to fire from?
  5. What I can see on the video shown is a few seconds of sirens, after the strike team is in place, knowing what "8 seconds" is, that was not it, more like 2 or so. If that team was really expecting fire from inside, they were very lackadaisical about their approach, standing around, and the door breaker has his back to it right after the entry. I would never turn my back on what I considered an armed and dangerous situation, and I do not think real pros would either.
  6. I have not been keeping up with this one, where can I see video showing the Police arriving with their sirens on?
  7. Another article re the same subject. Looks like whoever talked the staff attorney into rigging the documents was in it to force his/her view point at whatever cost. Tennessee Legislator Secretly Alters Final State Budget Bill | Blue Collar Muse
  8. I suspect that there will be a lot of scrutiny over this issue! Unknown legislator changes wording of budget on Planned Barrenhood funding - Knoxville Tennessee Statehouse | Examiner.com
  9. Bipartisanship at its finest, McConnell and Reid making sure they can reach into your, and my personal business unfettered, all for the greater food of course...
  10. Feds Issue Threat: No Fly Zone for Texas? – Tenth Amendment Center
  11. That is a "you understood" situation. But she is not the only leadership person who is, the Blue Blood Republicans starting with the "Elder Statesman", Alexander, are all anti-gun. They figure for Haslam to have a chance to run for President someday, they can not have any real pro-gun issues on his record, as they think the Liberal path is the only way to go. There are some Freshman Republicans who are pro-firearms oriented, but they were chained and muzzled this term, all for the greater supposed good of the Party. Alexander, Dunn, Haslam and Harwell are all on the same page, and the interest of firearms owner's is not an issue they deem important.
  12. Matheny's NRA sponsored proposal (the one you reference HB 1668) never even got to committee. The simple Bill brought up by Evans (HB 2021) got killed by Dennis and the FED EX. You may be correct that next year's session MIGHT be of more benefit, there IS an election in 2012, and the pols will be back to conservative groups with their hands out again, convinced that our collective recollections are short term enough that we will not remember their actions of '11, but you will not see campus carry. Haslam is opposed, and the Governing body of UT is as well, it simply will not happen. CTAS and MTAS (operatives of the UT system) will do everything in their power to preclude it's acceptance, and as they are the chief lending institution to Cities and Counties, they wield a huge stick in TN.
  13. Cloture was the change by Wilson, the filibuster (unlimited debate) has been a part of the Senate since it's inception. Wilson and his cronies are the ones who ended that.
  14. It takes 60 votes for cloture, (cutting off debate on a nominee, a filibuster if you will), if a filibuster is not legal, why is it a Senate rule? The filibuster is a time honored tradition in the Senate, what Alexander and the other Liberal Republicans did was sell us out. Without their help, the nominee would not have made it to a floor vote, and there is nothing illegal about that action to block such a vote. (Shades of Mr. Smith goes to Washington) http://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/common/briefing/Filibuster_Cloture.htm
  15. Cain supported the Bank Bailouts, and from what I can tell, is opposed to Auditing the FED, and, is a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. These facts are troublesome to me with respect to him being a candidate for President. Someone can correct me if I am wrong in this.
  16. That tactic is a ploy built into the system, the Democrats make use of it all the time when they need to as a support of their agenda, but our Republican Senator will not. I personally am for any legal method to keep anti-gun and liberty hating judges off the bench.
  17. Our Stated meeting for the month of May will be held Thursday, 5/12/2011 at the Old Country Store, located in the Casey Jones Village, Jackson TN. Our Speaker for the evening will be Daniel Stanfield, local Officer with the TWRA. Please come out and listen as Officer Stanfield brings us information regarding the latest changes to our Game Laws. Our room will be available for dinner and "catch up" time at 5:30 P.M., I will begin an update from the State Legislature at 6:30 P.M., and the speaker will begin promptly at 7:00 P.M. Membership is not a requirement to attend, all are welcome.
  18. I do what I can. Would you argue against the premiss? Have made 4 trips to Nashville this session to advocate for Firearms issue bills, am getting a much better read on the real reasons as to why the Legislature is dealing back door on cutting off debate and floor votes on Campus Carry and the Parking Lot Bills. Check out HB 1003/SB 1915, I think it speaks to lust for power and the reality of why we must swell our ranks of vocal, involved advocates to offset the dollars shortly to flood into the campaigns, effectively rendering the individual moot in the legislative process.
  19. Control, control, and control! Personally, I think the most egregious denial of the ability to keep a weapon for protection is that fostered on a renter of a property, (apartment or home) where the owner disallows the ability of the payer to keep a weapon for their personal protection where they lay down to sleep. It is the exact same mind set as the parking lot issue, pure desire for control. The argument made for excluding the ability to keep a weapon where you and your children sleep at night is exactly the same as the one made to preclude keeping a legal weapon in the personal vehicle, satisfaction of power and lack of respect for a fellow Citizen's need to provide for their own defense, all the while seeking to be absolved of any liability for not providing any protection while gaining profit from the labor, or payment for goods and services by others.
  20. The Legislators, individuals and business entities that advocate and work against the Citizen's Right to wear or bear arms for their personal protection are not concerned about your, or your sisters life, it it immaterial to them. They are only concerned with being able to keep control (or in the case of the Legislators, the particular interest of their dollar donors) of a particular piece of soil that they hold temporary title to. If your life, or the life of your child or grandchild is forfeit to succor their ability to hold on to the power to control, so be it.
  21. Lame-r and 10 other "Republicans" vote to end debate and allow a floor vote on John McConnell's appointment, (a virulent anti-gunner) to the Federal Bench. Anti-gun Nominee Narrowly Passes in Senate - Gun Owners Of America Alexander and the Republicans did not support the man in the floor vote, thereby getting to say they did not "vote" for him, but it takes 60 to bring about an end to debate and allow the vote, one on the floor a simple majority is all it takes to win. Without the 11 Republicans, the nominee would not have made it to a vote as the count for cloture was 63.
  22. Rep. Holt's Bill got sent to Summer Study (aka killed). I wonder if all the Campus Police Officers lined up in the first three rows in the chamber of the Judiciary Committee meeting room, in their uniforms and carrying their weapons, were drawing pay from the taxpayer?
  23. Had a discussion with a different Representative during the lunch break who thinks the only chance is a fresh Bill next year, which specifically comes at this from the Castle Doctrine angle, and includes every parking lot. Even Chairman Watson's assistant did not get that the Bill was sent back to sub-committee, she still had us scheduled to speak, and did not realize the fix was in till the lunch break. She came and found Sky King and I, and apologized for the mix up. It was a rolling hit on the Bill, they did not want to take it up in public, nor have any testimony. I can say after watching the morning's activities, I am surprised we are not further off the cliff than what we are.
  24. With the Governor opposed to this legislation, it does not have a chance. More than likely it would pass in the Senate, but with the House in the pocket of the Alexander/Haslam wing of the Republican Party, no way will it survive the Judiciary Committee. If the vote to table the amendment to HB 2021 is an indication of support for firearms issues, then one could infer since these Legislators who are Judiciary Committee members who voted FOR tabling the amendment: Vice Chair Jim Coley-R Secretary Vance Dennis-R Jon Lundberg-R Rick Womick-R Speaker Beth Harwell-R(who gets to vote in any committee in case of a tie) Also: Jeremy Faison-R present not voting and, you have on that committee as well: Janis Sontany-D Karen Camper-D Gary Moore-D I would say the odds are very much against the bill getting out of the committee as written, as there is no telling what Chairman Watson will do, his will be the wild card vote.
