  1. no insulation on this round. thinking about adding some for the next round as well as a piece of vinyl siding. We're wanting to try a different load/bullet on the 45 acp as well as frangible on the 9 or 357sig.
  2. we didnt have any batting in the middle but it was drywall/stud/drywall with one end being our "door jamb" 3 boards thick
  3. Sorry for the photo quality. There wasnt much left to see by the time we got a camera on scene. One of the guys that shoots with us out at CHMR brought by a "wall" today to do a demo for some of the guys. Every shot was taken at 9' mostly dead on. .22LR, 410, 20,.380, 40 S&W, 45ACP, 357sig and 44mag. EVERYTHING penetrated the wall. Really makes you think even harder about how much you have to realize what lies beyond your shot. We also took a few shots at a 45 degree angle to the "door jamb" (3 2 x 4 thick) as well as a few shots directly at the frame. The 45ACP didnt penetrate but that could be the soft load as well as a soft lead tip. The only ones available that did make it through were the 44 mag and 357sig both FMJ and JHP. This isnt an attempt at seeing "Which caliber is better" it was just a demonstration with what was available to us today Just thought I would share
  4. I am in. My youngest was in a situation a few years back and we stayed at one in another state. It has been on our contribution list ever since. I think it would be wonderful to be able to donate through here.
  5. from gunsafe.com. I had to see it too.
  6. I have had a set for about 6 months now and really like them for handguns outdoors. 22db is not enough (for me personally) when firing larger caliber rifles or handguns indoors. I still wear a set of foamies under mine under either of those conditions. It's hard to find much over 24-25db of reduction in electronic without getting rather pricey. I think the Pro_Ears are 33db but they are around $300.00.
  7. Shot one this morning at CHMR. The recoil is almost nothing. I only fired 10 rounds through it but it was a blast.
  8. The first bids were when I lived in Brentwood. I went to the Invisible Fence website and had it set up by calling the 1-800 number. This was a handful of years ago. there was no way to afford it at that time so I went with the DIY option and it worked flawless. My neighbor asked if he could pay me to do his yard and I let him know that if he needed help I would help but this wasnt something I did nor did I want to make a career of it. (He wasnt THAT good of a neighbor ) He asked who could do it and I referred him to the main website. He told me a week later he had received the same bid. Move forward a few years (2005) I was temporarily a resident of another state and needed to get a quote again (this is where I heard the discount on air). It was that salesman that made the comment about the discount. I already had the parts and I couldnt find a mini trencher so I found a "modified" sod cutter. It was much harder but still only about 45 bucks to rent. I probably had it easy training my dog since she has always been worked with so the training portion is much more valuable to others I am sure. I love how it worked with my dog (there was an existing fence in the yard I have now). It was just out of the realm of being affordable at those time and I am not one to finance anything but a house. I didnt keep the bids to give you a name. The only one that came in the nice folder was from the other state. I dont have a bad taste in my mouth about the company or the people that came to give me a bid. I felt bad for wasting their time actually. I just tend to be more of a do it yourselfer if I know I can do it properly. If not. I save up and hire out.
  9. +1 on that. It took longer to drive to Home Depot and back than it did to install the fence. It was easy enough when I moved I did it all over again. Just remember to make big turns instead of corners if you use the "mini-trencher" (thats how HD has it listed). Last time I checked the fence package (500' of wire, collar, flags, and the energizer) was about 150ish, the trencher was about 45 for a half day. When The Invisible Fence Company came out it was $1,000.00. My neighbor had a much smaller yard and they quoted him the same amount. The sales rep even stated that the adds you hear on the radio offering discounts really hurt their business so they inflate the prices to compensate for them. They make a stubborn dog collar. They know when it hits them. I had a cow dog/mix that probably could've been trained with a 2x4. I took the fence collar off the other dog and he wore 2 for a couple of weeks. After that it didnt even matter if the batteries died. Good luck
  10. If you haven't already found this site it is a great ref for working with your MK (insert number here) 2245 Maintenance Page links for most things you will need on it at the top of the page.
  11. another thought would be to try your .40 in a few different holsters or a belly band. she might find one comfortable enough to make carrying a larger gun not feel so bulky. Might not, but worth a try.
  12. I buy a case of those cokes every month. Never had one flat.
  13. Franklin Co-Op had 9 boxes last week. Just under 19/box for WWB
  14. You have to watch the Opryland security. Only twice in my life have I had a firearm pulled out and aimed at me. Once was for being on the opposing team at a Red Boiling Springs ball game in H.S. The other was by O'land security for being where I was supposed to be, when I was supposed to be and credentialed for the area. My associate and I stopped when called, turned and simply stated our business....to an un-holstered weapon. Luckily there was another officer there to confirm it. Even he stated that some of them dont belong there. I know they arent all bad apples, just saying that if you're going to go make certain you have the correct info from the proper source.
  15. +1 for Houstons. When I go visit my folks in Lebanon I usually try to see what they have. Always good selection and decent prices. Out on my side of town I usually call over to C & F Meats and see what they have fresh. They slaughter and cut....you know it's fresh.
  16. Took your advice on the Co-Op and found a Redwing for 24 bucks. Also found they had a small, but decent, stock of ammo.
  17. unless you are using the funds to buy the XD then hold on to it until you know that you're comfortable with the new purchase. At this point and time, even though you don't care for how it feels, you are probably somewhat used to it. If you decide to keep the XD then weigh out whether selling the 27 is best or keeping it until you find something else to have as a backup. Just my .02
  18. CO-OP in Franklin has WWB 380 for just under 19.00 a box. Looks like he had about 9 boxes on the shelf
  19. What makes you like them better ? I haven't clicked the magic "buy now" button so I am open to suggestions.
  20. After checking around I am pretty sure this is the way I am headed. I was wondering if the horsehide upgrade was a good idea or should I just stick with the cowhide ? Thanks for any input
  21. detailstrip Lots of good help on this site. I ended up having to take mine all the way down. Going to add a VQ extractor to it as soon as it gets in. Sounds like you were over at ABC talking to Tony. He hates working on them.
  22. Gun show at the fairgrounds this weekend. She won't be able to shoot them but there will be lot's of handguns there to see what she thinks might "fit" her best.

    Rifle ranges

Not this weekend. Charlie always closes on the first full weekend of the month. "On the first weekend of the month, the range is closed in an effort to aid noise reduction for the neighborhood"
