    New 870 Sights

Tom, Welcome to TGO! Looking forward to seeing your comments in the Tactics & Training section. Getting back on topic - - - Those are some strong looking sights, but I still like the Ghost Ring setup that Scattergun Technology did for my 870 years ago when they were in Nashville.

    HBO "Pacific"

".... The Pacific is based primarily on two memoirs of U.S. Marines: With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie...." Outstanding Books. Should be "must-watch" TV. My DVR will be set.
  3. The Enemy Below With Robert Mitchum. This is a Great WWII Destroyer Escort versus Sub movie. One of the few movies that actually uses proper Navy procedures. As a sidenote - - - The Star Trek television episode "Balance of Terror" was based almost entirely on this film.
  4. It depends...... Am I leading a 30 man platoon or a 5 man heavy fire team?
  5. Dang, that isn't good. What were the problems?
  6. CK1, Very thoughtful comments and well written. Thanks!
  7. Forgot to mention that all of my recommendations above leaves the rifle with a stock appearence (other than the hooded rear match sight). I figured that what you meant by "add-ons" would be all of the rail-mounted stuff that we hang on M4s.
  8. Free Float the barrel..., send the lower off to Frank White at Compass Lake Eng for his trigger action work..., add some service rifle match front and rear sights..., add some lead to the buttstock and under the handguards..., get a good sling..., buy some Federal Match Ammo..., and then head to the range for a service rifle match! I just described to you my Colt Sporter Match that I have been shooting in Service Rifle Matches for the past ten years. Its a sub MOA weapon all the way out to the 600 yard line with the stock barrel. If you want to do some add ons - - - good reason to buy a second AR (M4 model). And don't forget, Its a Colt - Not a Copy. You have the real deal.
  9. You can buy just a flat-top upper and transfer everything over to it. You can get one direct, no need for a FFL. Now - - - JMHO - - - The forward assist really isn't needed so long as you keep the weapon clean. Its sort of a last ditch SHTF effort to ram home a round into a dirty chamber which can result in even a worst failure of a stuck case. When that happens you'll need to transition to your secondary weapon (handgun) or breakout the cleaning rod and punch the stuck case out.

    Retro Carry

Thanks everybody for the kind comments. I'll take a look around the gun-room later and post up some pics of something else that ya might find interesting. Later,

    Retro Carry

I agree. A couple of years ago I realized that I didn't have a single Blue Steel S&W other than my Dad's ole' 36. I sat out to fix that and now have....., Ugggg...., Welllllll..., Hmmmm..., A Lot.

    Retro Carry

The all steel Model 36 is 19oz. The Airweight Model 37 with its alloy frame is 12.5oz. Both are light, but you can really feel the difference between the two. Odd, but sometimes I notice the BlackBerry on my hip more than the 37. Might be the better holster for the 37. Recoil with the Buffalo Bore is a hard push with the 36 and a sharp snap with the 37. These early Airweights are not +P rated.
  16. I shot an IDPA Bug Gun match several weeks ago with my Dad's Old Model 36. I had forgotten just how easy to carry a S&W J-Frame is. SO......., Tracked down this Model 37 AirWeight and after a couple of Retro Mods (T-Grip, Bobbed Hammer, Smooth Trigger Face) and an action job, I'm back to the future with the 1968 made S&W. Carry ammo is Buffalo Bore standard pressure 158gr Soft Lead SWCHP-Hard Cast. This weapon is an easy POA-POI out to seven yards. DISCLAIMER: DON'T WORRY -NO ORIGINAL PARTS WERE MODDED IN THE MAKING OF THIS CARRY WEAPON!
  17. These should work..... PACHMAYR : Model SK-GP S&W "K/L" w/Sq Butt Open Back, fits Smaller Hands (692-601-011) - World's Largest Supplier of Firearm Accessories, Gun Parts and Gunsmithing Tools
  18. These "Hooters" are better looking...., and well armed! Dillon Precision: Reloaders, Reloading Equipment, Bullet Reloading, Bullet Reloaders
  19. Glen, Good to see you post.
  20. Yup, +1 for Shawn! Good Guy to Deal With.
  21. Here is where the confusion comes from. ATF's website has a Q&A section where the following is stated: "Firearms automatically attain C&R status when they are 50 years old. Any firearm that is at least 50 years old, and in its original configuration, would qualify as a C&R firearm." ATF Online - Firearms - Frequently Asked Questions But that is not what ATF Pub 5300.11 states. It states that all firearms become C&R at 50 years (page 2). And that "original configuration" only applies to imported military firearms (page 10). http://www.atf.gov/publications/download/p/atf-p-5300-11.pdf Go with the published regulations. The website Q&A is just a quick answer that is a summary of the regulations found in ATF Pub 5300.11
  22. Joe, Are you planning a NVD for that forward rail? BTW - - - You look much younger in the pic holding that rifle.
