The funny thing about S&W wood grips is that they are worth more than some of the firearms. Back in the day we all pulled them off and replaced them with rubbers making for today's "shortage" for factory wood. Those combat grips on my 24-3 will bring $200-$300 all day long just by themselves.

I haven't forgotten. S&W 24-3 .44 Special Combat.

The "ziplock freezer bag" is my method also. You can also double bag the firearm and hold it in tight using rubber bands for the week long stretch. I have never had a holster that didn't loosen up using this method.

The only 1000 yard ranges that I know of that are open to the public are in Tullahoma & Oak Ridge. Not aware of any near Hickman county.
