  1. I think that a lot of you misunderstood my posts. It was probably my fault for not being more specific or being too tired after work to accurately express my view. My point was to state what may have prevented the Florida church shooting. The bottom line is that if CCW holders were to have better training and possibly safer firearms that these tragedies can be reduced. A lot of states have statutes that prohibit carry of firearms in schools and churches. I do not think we need this in Tennessee but in the states that they exist the majority of people must feel their state needs it. I am concerned that as the number of CCW holders in this country grows and we have such minimal training requirements that we will see more of these accidental shootings. A magazine disconnect is not the answer and as I have stated I carry a revolver. I just wanted to show that if the shooter had one on his firearm then that particular accident would not have occurred. I know that the purpose of the disconnect is that in a grapple for control of the firearm that you could render the gun inoperable by pressing the release. In regard to the 2nd amendment a lot of you feel it means unregulated CCW. I believe the more popular interpretation is that we have a right to own firearms and should the need arise to use it to defend yourself, your home and country. In 1787 when the Constitution was written it was legal to duel in the streets and people carried swords and daggers for self defense. Today this is no longer legal. This is because states do have the right to regulate "bearing of arms". Carrying a firearm in public is a privilege and not a right. I am saying that we will lose this privilege if there are more irresponsible CCW's out there doing dumb things in public places.
  2. Good point! Common sense is more important than age. Intensive firearm training above what is currently required by TN for HCP should be a start for campus carry.
  3. Usually carry the LCR and my wife the P238. I sometimes carry my PPS in a large coat pocket in a Remora holster. All of the above are good choices
  4. 1. When you serve on a jury. 2. When a criminal breaks down your front door. 3. When you are in fear of great bodily harm and not likely to harm a bystander. 4. Call 911 I don't mean to be trite but you should respect other peoples view even if you don't agree.
  5. The CCW holder with the ND in the Florida church was a law abiding citizen and was not charged in the shooting. The shooting would never have happened if his firearm had a magazine disconnect. If Florida had banned guns in churches as in several other states then the law abiding CCW would not be showing off his firearm to begin with. I realize that there is nothing you can do to stop shootings by criminals other than a better justice system with severe punishment. If you think by carrying a firearm in church you can stop criminals yourself you are delusional. I personally witnessed a church shooting when my father, the minister of a Baptist church in Mississippi, was preaching and a man walked down to the pulpit with his dog on a leash holding a gun and ordered everyone out. He then shot his dog and then himself. In Mississippi you can not CCW in church but if it was allowed I don't believe it would have stopped him or could have been much worse with someone shooting a choir member or my dad by accident. I am all for the 2nd amendment but it refers to the right of people to own firearms. It is up to each state to regulate it. I believe anyone who carries a firearm in public should be better trained than what I have seen in my HCP class.
  6. Walther PPQ is close at 1.3in wide but DAO. Still nearly perfect CCW.
  7. 1. True grit refers to the character Mattie who left her ranch and shot her fathers killer under great duress not Roster Cogburn who was a washed up drunkard who's only heroic act was to ride all night carrying the girl to save her life. Mattie was also stubburn, opinionated and did not care what you think. 2. Have you gone to a gun show and talked to the folks waving their guns around and sell to anyone, no questions asked? Any convicted fellon rapist or mentally defective can buy a gun there if they had cash but yet if I go to a gun shop I have to pay so much more, Tax Tic,s and their markup. 3. Lots of states have no guns in bars and churches. This would not be necessary if you had a real background check, real training reqirements for CCW and a ferderal license to buy and sell firearms. 4. I am standing up for the rights of responsible gun owners because we will surely lose this right if CCW holders continue to proliferate that are shooting innocent people in church.
  8. There are plenty of examples of laws and regulations saving lives. Just look at the statistics for fatalities because manufactures placed airbags in cars, seat belt use and lowering the speed limit. Just because we are taking about making gun carrying safer everyone screams 2nd amendment rights. We will lose this right if we can't prevent innocent lose of life. I support stronger background checks, closing the gun show loophole, stricter CCW requirements, no guns in bars and churches, stiffer penalties for carrying firearms without a permit and safer guns that have lower capacity magazines, magazine disconnects and manual safeties. I see no need for high capacity for SD. I am not anti gun or a Brady nut. I carry a revolver every day.
  9. All I am saying is that if we don't take action to prevent similar tragic accidents that we will wind up losing what freedoms we currently enjoy. If this means carrying more guns with magazine disconnects or more stringent CCW requirements then it is worthwhile. Please remember that this is a forum to share ideas and learn from each other. There are always two sides to every issue Unrestrained freedom leads to lawlessness and trampling on the rights of the minority.
  10. Since you can't fix stupid you sure can regulate it for the protection of society. A magazine safety would have prevented this common accident. If states have already passed laws to allow carry in public places then they are responsible to make sure the legally armed citizen knows how to safely handle a loaded firearm. It appears clear to me that Florida granted a permit to someone who does not know how to handle a firearm in public. I am upset. If that was my girl who was shot in the head at church then I would be leading the crusade to ban firearms by stupid people and yes that may mean a real gun safety exam.
  11. Here is another example of the need for better training for permit holders. Maybe there is a reason to have a magazine disconnect safety. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/02/13/pastors-daughter-accidentally-shot-at-florida-church/?test=latestnews
  12. My wife has same problem even with the LCR. She uses the Sig p238 which anyone can rack the slide or the Beretta bobcat with the tip up barrel.
  13. I have both. The P238 is more fun to shoot but the 357 is better for self defense. I keep the sig in my pocket and LCR on my belt.
  14. We will never know for sure but is exposing your gun in public ever a good idea?
  15. Why could you not say when picking up your baggage at La Guardia with the now illegal handgun that the airline transported the gun into their city not you and insist that TSA remove the item from your luggage before you claim it and then bill the airline for lost luggage that is the cost of the handgun?
  16. My flight has been canceled several times and you can pick the next available flight but can refuse to accept one that goes to NYC. I believe that if enough pro-handgun people boycott NYC that it would have some positive affect at least for the airlines. I also don't travel to NYC because of long delays at the airport.
  17. This is why I do not book a flight through NYC. The NRA needs to sue this city and its anti-gun mayor.
  18. The PPS is a great gun but probably not for the novice due to the problems you describe. Try to rent several mid size guns in 9mm such as the XDM, XD, M&P, Glock 19 that have a better grip. I find the grip size is critical for recoil control. My wife picked out the Sig P238 and she loves it!
  19. That was my experience. I gave it to my son and he doesn't mind the long trigger pull and shoots much better than me. I will just keep my Sig P238 HD which is a little heavier but much less recoil. I really like the 380 round and just use it as a BUG to my Walther PPS 40.
  20. Colt Defender highly rated by Gun Tests.
  21. Ditto. All guns are in the safe if not on me and the shoty is taken out at bedtime and placed next to the bed with the chamber empty. My EDC is kept in the safe in a holster but I sometimes rotate them.
  22. Time to start drug testing all elected officials. I have to be drug tested at work to keep my job. I would think to get new trials there had to be some judicial error found at some point. If a new trial is done I hope they all get the worst possible sentence.
  23. I use Glaser Safety Silver Slugs as the chambered round and Critical defense in the magazines. I practice not to have negligent discharges. In a SD situation I know my first shot will be rapid and point and shoot. If it hits off center then I don"t want it to pass through into a building hurting innocent people. I have not seen this in the forum but this is what Glaser has designed this particular round.
  24. My wife can not even pull the trigger of my LCR but she has no problem racking the slide of the P238 HD. She also keeps a Beretta 21A bobcat 22lr in her coat pocket. She does not like the recoil for the 38sp even single action but no problem with the P238 HD which is a 20 oz version.
