Fixed Ruger 22/45 FTF and FTE problem
True Grit replied to True Grit's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
That's good to know. I am enjoying working on the Ruger. Its very satisfying to be able to turn a gun into 100% reliable. -
I was so disappointed with my Ruger 22/45 jamming constantly into the feed ramp with cheaper brick ammo but I was able to solve this problem myself and now it shoots everything well. I had a gunsmith look at it from the gun store that I purchased it and he said just shoot mini mags and you will be fine. That worked for awhile then even mini=mags would jam into the feed ramp. I found a little spur at the start of the feed ramp and took a Dremel tool and sanded it flush. Apparently it was just catching the nose of the bullet stopping it from feeding. It now feeds flawlessly all 22lr ammo but still had several stovepipes about 5%. I then replaced the extractor with a Volquartsen exact edge as seen on several trouble shooting posts and now the gun shoots everything I have bought and 100% reliable. I don't know a lot about firearm repair but if I can fix this problem myself with just a little help from the internet I know you can too.

Need some input on an everyday carry pistol.
True Grit replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I like my Walther PPS .40 S&W for EDC. It is light, thin accurate and reliable. It is very easy to carry in a comp=tac tuckable holster. Downside is the price and only 5 rounds. Sometimes I just put my Ruger LCR in my front pocket for short trips to the store. To me capacity isn't an issue for self defense. -
I bought the PPS .40 S&W about a year ago and now regret not picking the 9mm. I thought that bigger was better. I have now put over 600 rounds through it and it works flawlessly but it has very snappy recoil being so light. The advantage of greater stopping power of the 40 is meaningless if I never ever have to use it, have one less round and ammo is much more expensive.

I love my LCR! It goes everywhere in my pocket.
-
+1 for the 40 S&W I carry both calibers (the 40 as a BUG) when I visit Memphis. Ammo is cheaper for the 40 so I practice with it more and also reload.

Well at least they know enough to get instruction. If Haslum had his way he would do away with the Permit altogether.

Beretta Px4 Holster Feedback Needed
True Grit replied to adam42's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
It fit just fine! You can adjust the retention to your comfort. I also have the spare Minitar bodys and some times change out for my Walther PPS for summer carry. -
Don't bother. Those pinheads already made up their minds when they posted.

Ruger LCR in 38+p is carried in Aholster in the pocket without much printing. Also carry it in a Galco ankle holster as backup to my 45.

I was thinking that for self defense you need to have something that starts with a 4 but the rest of the world believes that a 9mm is all you really need. My wife really bought this PPS 40 for herself because she liked the small frame and grip but after she shot 50 rounds it hurt her arthritic wrists so she took my XDM 9mm and its now her EDC.
-
The 40 is a little snappy. I wish I had taken the 9mm instead. The 40 mags have one less round.
-
congrats! I love my PPS 40 and carry in Minitar holster. Its very reliable and fits my hand better than a Glock. I too wish the Mags were cheeper.

Does anyone know of a reason why I should carry with the on all the time? I have a Beretta 45 with a slide safety you have to push up with the thumb to take off safe. I have practiced this maneuver a lot at the range to get smooth but when under stress during competition this becomes clumsy and time consuming. I think in a self defense situation that could get me killed. I have a long trigger pull in this DA/SA pistol.

Beretta Px4 Holster Feedback Needed

I have the comptac minitar IWB for summer carry and a plain Fobus paddle OWB for winter carry for my PX4 .45 and a light jacket or loose fitting vest covers well. Inside Waistband Holsters - Minotaur Holsters - products new home - Minotaur MTAC Holster -
I was on a revolver kick once. The thing that ended it was shooting my Taurus 605 in USPSA. Look at the times and hit factor compared to the XD,s and glocks.

Welcome to TGO! I have a Walther PPS .40S&W and I carry it daily in a Comptac holster. It fires great and 100% reliable. The 40 has a bit more recoil and if you are recoil sensitive I would go with the 9mm.
-
You will enjoy!

I love my Beretta px4 .45! It has never jammed. It is more accurate than the M9. I believe its superior to all other Beretta pistols. The only thing I don't like is the sharp edge on the safety and keep hurting my thumb when racking the slide.

Are Fragibles any good at all for Self Defense?
True Grit replied to MikePapa1's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I would not want to be shot with it. I still use what the Police use. -
I would like a T3 also. They look great but would be afraid to carry it CC.

NTPS September match date moved
True Grit replied to timcalhoun's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Can you shoot a 2nd classifier for the 2nd gun if you shoot in a different division? I am new to USPSA. -
How much ammo do you carry for EDC?
True Grit replied to Backon4's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Taurus 357 snub in front pocket 5 in chamber, then 5 in Tuff Strip weak side pocket. I keep 2 speed loaders in console. If I am traveling to Nashville, I'll add a Bug on the ankle (LCR) and change to 38 Spl rounds. -
Many police departments carry the .40 load because they are more accurate and have higher capacity than the .45 round. Those firearms are better suited for smaller hands of most officers today. The 9mm is nearly as good due to less recoil, higher capacity thus more shoots on target. The .45 is now less popular today and the 10mm is nearly dead. Just IMHO.
