My class actually had a gentleman fail the range portion of the test.  He was completely off paper at 3 yards.  The instructor worked with him for about 45 minutes but he still couldn't hit the paper at 3 yards, much less the target.  It was painful to watch them tell the guy he wasn't getting a permit but I'm glad they did.  He doesn't need to carry.

Jeez, 3 yards? Hide when you're around him!

Biggest issue we had in our class were people who could not manipulate their weapon. A couple of women had issues. One had a brand new PPK/s and just could not pull the slide back. She could not grip it tight enough. A blow back .380 probably not the best choice for a petite woman.

  2. Hands down the best light you can get for the money are the free 3AAA ones they give away with coupon at Harbor Freight. And when the batteries run out along comes a coupon for a free 24 pack of replacement batteries. I've got those scattered around all over.

  3. This was handed down from my favorite uncle. 1892 in .25-20. He purchased it new on a trip in Colorado. I believe he said he paid $25 for it at an auction; a hardware store was closing down. I thnk he was 13 years old. He named it Schatze, a german word for sweetheart. Matter of fact all three of these guns were his.

  4. I've had some ammo that would not fire on the first try. Seems rimfires can be this way. I've had a couple feeding issues with mine. I really like it, but need to do a fluff and buff I think it can be reliable. Magazine loading is a key issue for reliability.

  5. Just an update on this if anyone is still following. It's been a good ride but seems like the party is over. Received an email this AM.

I went into it expecting this at some point to go away. I was paying on their quarterly plan so as not to get too burned. Biggest issue now is what to do. I don't think much has changed since I signed up with other providers being available. I am now on the verizon unlimited plan for my phone, but they limit hotspots to 15GB, and also limit phones as hotspots at 22GB. So that's not probably going to work for a home situation and streaming.

I've decided this is a fool's errand. I've spent several hours breaking walnuts today, and I've recovered 2 cups of nuts.

My mom and dad really liked them. He would sit on the porch with a hammer and short section of rail road iron and crack them. I never like them enough to spend that much time shelling them. I'm think part of the attraction was that they came off the place and you didn't let things like that go to waste. Black walnut pie was a favorite, although not for me.

More musings on the Las Vegas shooting...

I am almost certain at this point that the lack of an obvious motive by the shooter is going to be used by the Left to further demonize gun owners.  My gut tells me that we can expect to see the media and the hacks this country has elected to Congress begin using the lack of clear motive as a speaking point whereby they make their case that background checks don't work and that the only answer to the problem of evil people using tools to do evil deeds is to remove the tools from circulation entirely.

In other words, they are going to declare that the lack of motive is the most disturbing point of all and is the reason why no one should ever have a gun or a gun of a certain type.  They will say that it is proof that none of us can be trusted, despite the fact that this crime was committed by just one of some 7.7 Million estimated gun owners in the United States.  The absurdity of painting with such a wide brush will, of course, be dismissed willfully by a public seemingly incapable of thinking for itself.

A lot of what I've heard does seem to be headed this way. I don't watch cable news but I haven't heard the first thing about high capacity magazines. Which I find odd.

We can only hope that the people of Tennessee have been closely watching the actions of both of these twats and don't elect either one of them to Dog Catcher in 2018. They proved that the people make the decisions in Alabama and didn't put McConnells puppet in office so the people in Tennesse do have the final say and lets hope we stand strong like Alabama did...........JMHO

Alabama has re-worked the primary voting rules to help prevent democrats from doing too much damage, and that helped lead to Moore's win. Probably not perfect, but certainly better than what we have, which is nothing. When we were choosing a republican candidate for governor Haslem was one among the many. All were more conservative than he was. The Tennessean came out endorsing him, or basically telegraphing to all the democrats, vote Haslem. And this is what we got. Here's a pretty good article on the Alabama method, and a good explanation of what's wrong with open primarys.

  9. we're going to get clobbered by our open primaries. The democrats will trot out a couple of candidates, but not expecting a win in the general, so their plan will be voting in the republican primary for the best democrat there.
