Sorry for not reading this entire thread. But if I remove a brace and just go back to the old school AR pistol-style with a buffer tube, that’s considered compliance, yes?

Kinda, possibly.   It’s based on the “surface area” of the end of the extension.   And I don’t know what their metric is there as I haven’t read the entire ruling.

I appreciate your response. I can see where he’s presenting a case in the strictest legal sense. I would counter that it doesn’t necessarily jive with the picture in totality. But he’s a lawyer and I’m not. You mentioned that he went through three videos. Was it strictly the body cam videos, or was one of them the sky eye video?

He goes so far as to say he isn’t watching video 1 because we assume the arrest was legal. He says cops don’t just go around arresting people for no reason. It simply doesn’t happen.   His reasoning.

No need to watch it again... he shouldve complied before he ever ran off the first time. Thats my opinion, kids now a days dont have respect, dont think they have to listen to authority,  and this is the price thats paid. As I said he didnt deserve to be killed BUT if he would of followed command hed be here today..

I believe you missed the part of the videos where he wasn’t afforded the opportunity to comply.  He was told to get out of the car while simultaneously being violently removed by the former officer.  One was holding an arm under his body while he was told to roll onto his stomach.   Much like Shaver, the commands were either impossible to follow physically or countered other commands from others on the scene.

    Unrelated

In the video after the second beating, an officer can be heard saying he has Tyre on video almost running into his squad car and driving down the wrong side of the road.  Where is that video?   If that’s the case, I suppose we will see it in court.

In video #4 after the cops had retrieved Nichol’s wallet at the 15:01 mark someone gives the lieutenant Nichol’s ID and states “he ain’t got no charges.” I know it’s procedure to run a check, but it seems they were hoping to find something in his past they could use against him.

As far as I understand it, officers must be able to articulate felony charges any time they involve themselves in or initiate a chase.  That’s what that statement was about.

in the same video, one of the officers says he only saw Tyre because he stopped to wipe his face.  He was so close to home.  That hurt as much as anything.

I have waited for more facts to make any comment on this.  The video is fact enough. As a retired LEO, that was simply a gang beat down, not an arrest.  There is nothing that Tyre could have done in the past or present that could justify this beating.  Mind you, there were a few times in my career that the urge arose to do so, such as arresting violent pedophiles, I did not and neither did my shift mates.  We made the arrest using only the force required to subdue. I imagine this will be a short trial, just show the video.

I would like to speak to the not as obvious that no one has mentioned.  I am curious as to how many years each of these thugs had on the force. Over the past 20 years I have watched as agencies large and small have lowered their hiring standards to fill positions for lack of qualified applicants, or applicants desired by ever increasingly liberal administrations.  Add this to the fact that when budgets in municipal and county agencies get tight the first area to be cut is training.  Now add on top of that the media and political far left attack in general on anybody that wears a badge.  As a professional old school LEO, this trend has been sad to watch.  Unfortunately I believe this is only going to get worse.  Just sad.

The longest tenured of the five had just over five years.  A couple only three years.

and I don’t buy the training argument.  You don’t train cops to be good human beings.  You train them in tactics, policy and law.  None of those are displayed in this series of videos.  These videos demonstrate 8 individuals failing on a basic human decency level.  The argument used to be, and people gave a pass for, that officers only encounter the worst of humanity and so they start to see everyone as less than human.   That doesn’t make it okay.  Not in the slightest.   These guys may have been great people.  But on January 7th, they committed some of the most heinous acts known to man.  I pray for Tyre’s family and the families of those officers.

Kids?  heck anyone under the age of 45-50 probably can’t tell you how to program the stations on that radio.

I’m 39.  I know.  But I’m older than my age.  My dad always told people I should have been his brother.

Hopefully this doesn’t come across as combative because it isn’t meant to be at all.
My overall support / defense / etc. for good cops hasn’t changed. That said, I don’t see much to defend here.

As another member posted, these guys just looked like dudes who happened to be wearing a police uniform.

I too was proud to see how Memphis handled last night overall.  Hopefully no outsiders come in and stir up the masses.

Not combative at all.  And I wasn’t singling anyone out.  But generally in these type situations there is a lot of trying to defend officers.  People trying to point out a criminal history of the victim or finding pictures that make them look bad.  Asking to wait until we see the video and giving them the benefit of the doubt.  There just wasn’t as much of that this time.  Maybe because there wasn’t anything to find about Tyre.  Not just here but it seems everywhere the general attitude towards this has been that it was VERY VERY bad from the start.  And again, I don’t know if that’s because of an overall shift in attitudes or because everyone could just tell that this was wrong from the jump.

  8. Memphis did not burn last night.  Regardless of your issues with any signage, or where they protested, the bridge protest was peaceful.

the rest of the city lost their minds.  There was a lot of vandalism and burglary by opportunists.   They weren't carrying signs or chanting.  It was the same people who are always burgling and vandaling taking advantage of the climate to make their city worse.

But overall, I’m proud of my city so far.  The days to come could be very different though so I just pray for level heads to prevail.

I should also say, I’ve never seen a police brutality thread on this forum where almost no one defends the police.  I don’t know if it speaks to the general attitude of the forum changing or the specifics of this thread.  But it is definitely new.

That's the basic problem with this case. Lots of rumors, but very little facts.

And those rumors and conjecture don’t contribute to the discussion, at this point.   I think a lot of people are trying to spread these “whys” to justify why people they generally seem to respect or “back” or support would do something like this.  And in my mind it distracts us from the fact that it did happen.  The why doesn’t matter.  They were driving MPD vehicles, getting paid by MPD and wearing MPD uniforms.  They represent not just Memphis but police officers nationwide.  We are a developed, supposedly free, nation.  Our law enforcement officials should never act in this manner, reasons be damned.

If Tyre was sleeping with one of their girls, does it change anything?   They used their position of authority to take a man’s life.  That’s the point of this.  The why doesn’t change that for me.

I've only seen a few lowlights but MacGyver is right: it is awful. I've seen enough and have no desire to watch any more.

I can't image a trial will go well for any of them. All the prosecutor has to do is show the body cam and helicopter video.

To my knowledge, there was no helicopter up that night.  The “aerial” footage is from a pole mounted camera known as sky cop.

  11. Two models.  The DIY version and the Gunsmith or Pro model.  The diy version uses an Allen wrench.  The pro model has a magnet tip on the screw to hold small sight screws and the front sight wrench is a t-handle for the screw.

Both have bundle specials right now where you can get the pusher and their new R3D sight set.

Releasing it on a Monday morning makes more sense to me. By Friday night people are already drinking.

If the video is half as bad as rumor says, timing won’t matter.

also, the video released now almost certainly won’t be the full video.  Not to hide or cover up anything but because it’s generally the case.  We rarely see complete footage in these cases until the trial.  Also, it’s gonna be a lot of footage.  3-5 dash cams.  5 body worn cameras.  At least one sky cop camera.

I think saying all eyes are on Memphis right now is an understatement.  Just heard about it on one of those radio news snippets they have between programming.

I really hope this horrible situation doesn’t explode into something more damaging to our society that is already literally hanging on a fringe.

I once held hope that Memphis would not go insane over this.  As bad as things got around the country during George Floyd, what happened here really was almost entirely peaceful.

that hope is gone.  Al Sharpton is giving the eulogy at the funeral and Ben Crump is giving “a call to action” at the same.   I now believe that we will have a lot of outsiders stirring the pot here and making this something that it otherwise would not have been.

    I pray I’m wrong.

If TN ever sees the light I’m gonna see about a Krystal franchise next to one.

One can only hope that day is nearing. I know some Memphians are getting a little more serious about it since Arkansas and Mississippi have both moved in the right direction.

I dry fired my friend's trigger yesterday.  The break felt exactly like my Timney does, but the reset was a lot more pronounced.  He played around with several connectors and settled on one of the Lone Wolf connectors.  I would buy one of these before anything else if I wanted to change the trigger from stock.

I’m planning on it.  I should have ordered last week.   They are out of stock right now.

You've got nothing. Just because you've not heard it doesn't make it not so. I'm betting that if you Google the saying you'll discover something new. Then you can read about it.

It has to do with flim-flam, scams, slip and falls, and other cons. It's not biased, it's not political - it's a reality. People have always tried scams to get money they don't deserve.

I grew up in the areas that these people call dangerous and refuse to go into.   The people you are talking about are some of my closest childhood friends and I’d go so far as to say brothers.  I’ve met plenty of people that would jump at the chance for a lawsuit from a car wreck or falling in a business but I haven’t met a single one that would risk an encounter with the police for that opportunity.

Yep, CJ will be out soon. She was a terrible hire. I’d like to have Tony back, but he’s sitting pretty after retirement and working privately.

They are still uniformed but not the normal uniform.   They are generally in grey chargers that are, indeed, unmarked.

Pretty, now for my _itch. Manufactures just seem to throw on any old red dot. That Burris has to tall of a body, imo   I stick with the shorter profile RDs so they are closer to bore axis. The tall ones make my presentation feel unnatural

Someone buy them a Holosun Kx2 series. Heck, even a shield

Or….just don’t put a dot on it.   But if you, why wouldn’t you want the bigger window?   If you are noticing the size of the window, aren’t you paying attention to the wrong thing?
