Seems to have died down a bit. Would November or December be a good time frame? Sept is pretty soon and unfortunately I work every weekend in October at a haunted forest. Really wanting to keep the momentum up and get this thing off the ground!
-
I think the more attendees the better, especially a sere intructor. I think just with the few members we have comin already there is a lot to be learned. We have to balance the time though. The longer we postpone the better the turnout, but the sooner the better. so right now we have some time after two weeks. Whats a good time for everyone else. The place I have one chapman highway is used as a haunted forest during october. thats might be a strange setting. I am also looking into another location into the middle of nowhere.
-
I have a place to hold this. A friend of mine owns some property off chapman highway. Its right outside of sevierville. I'm not sure how convenient that is for everyone but it's not in the middle of nowhere and there should be plenty of room. it has a couple of level spots a pond, a creek, and plenty of parking. does this sound good for everybody?

Awesome! This is coming along pretty well I think. Anyone have or know of any place we could hold this?

I think knowing a little more about dealing with radiation is greatly important since a nuclear plant isn't real far away. Plus if the prevailing winds are blowing towards us, it all that more likely to see the effects of the fallout if something were to happen. A nuclear emergency is on my list of posibilities. We could put this on a list of possible regional disasters like tornadoes and flooding and maybe give it some specialized attention.... Does anyone else feel that a nuclear emergency is a real threat? Didn't know if I was alone.... I agree that living in the wild is not doable for most people. I wouldn't even want to. I would like to do this on a more regular basis. The more it's done the more instinctive our actions will become. Save time, save lives.... Perhaps when I get home I'll start an East Tennessee Preppers group. Maybe the groups can mingle!

Check out my other little thread I have going. I'm trying to get a little meetup started. The more people to show the better! -
I'm going to list a few things that might be of interest to touch on. Feel free to speak up and say if there's one I need to remove or if you have any to add. Also it might be helpful to mention if it's something you want to learn/ might be able to offer insight. Expediate shelters Tarp Shelters Proper way/place to set up a campsite Ways to leave less impact/trace of having been there Of course finding, treating, storing water and the effects of dehydration Ways to start fire, keep fires going, and just building a decent campfire in general.... That would be a great time to learn how to and what to cook on an open fire... Keeping our core body temperature in check Navigation Maybe if someone had some basic medical training..... Maybe touch on traps/snares... I mean if we're away from our stockpile/raided/whatever food will have to be found Edible plants Do we need guns? I'm pretty sure we all know our way around firearms... we are all on tngunowners... lol But who knows! Stockpiling tips, preserving tips.... stuff like that... Maybe cover some opinions/facts of what emergencies are most possible. Escape routes? I keep think about medical related info. Treating basic things like sprains, breaks, cuts, infections, stings and bites.. Well thats a start.. I have to be at work in like 4 hours... back on tomorrow. Feel free to drop me a PM for whatever reason guys. I wouldn't mind doing this annually, bi or tri annually even. Eventually the groups might get bigger and more info could be shared.

Yeah, it doesn't need to be an extreme survival weekend. I know I can eat bugs if the time come to it. I just want the chance to learn from someone who might know something I don't and possibly pass on anything I know to someone else. There's a few things I've been wanting to try, a few things I wanted to brush up on, and I'm always looking for new skills to learn. Plus I'd feel a lot more confident if something were to happen knowing I could at least perform whatever task at hand under the best circumstance before betting my life I can do it under the worst ones. I also believe that in time you'd HAVE to graft back into a larger group, especially if you have family to think about. If we all "knowledgable survivalists"we wouldn't be a burdon to a group when we came to one. We'd all be able to contribute our share, pull our weight and make the group stronger... Plus it will give us all a chance to meet one another. It would help to put a face with the posts. We all know that people aren't always the same in person as they are online. I'd be willing to be there's a couple of weirdos one here! lol I'd really like to run this as almost a course in preparedness. Having set courses, times, and maybe intructors. Even if not instructors a set time we'd all come together and share our insights on say, fire starting methods. Maybe since water will be an important resource we could start the moring on water procurement and treatment..... Maybe since a huge killer is exposure, the necessities of staying warm/dry and the symtoms/signs of hypo/hyperthermia... I might be putting too much time into this. I tend to over analyze things sometimes, but I'd like to get the most out of the time. I know to attend these classes taught elsewhere are hundreds of dollars. That money saved could be better spent elsewhere in preparation. Plus reading/doing are two different things. I've read how to make a hand drill plenty of times, doing it has been MUCH harder...

I was wondering if there was any interest for a survival/emergency preparation camp out kinda thing. Does anyone have a place to hold such a thing? It'd be nice if someone had some personal property so that we could camp, shoot a few different kinds of firearms/bows/sling shots, etc... I can't speak for everybody, but I wouldn't mind driving a little while if it meant a better learning opportunity... Outside the place to do it, who here has any skills that could be taught to other members? Anyone from the Military or medical fields? Any avid outdoorsmen that hunt/trap? Anyone read books and want to try out something they've read? Who'd like to throw in on some money/materials to get the most out of this little learning experience? I could bring.. .22 Rifle and ammo Targets Sling shot.... seriously...... Also marbles and arrows to shoot from it. Books on survival, trapping, and books about making things like windmills and etc.... Food maybe and drinks...... Probably a few more things..... So who wants to get in on this?

I'd drive an hour or two if we could get a gathering together. Does anyone have or know of a place a group could camp, cook, shoot weapons and things like that? It's not illegal to shoot an automatic weapon if the person thats owns it, owns it legally and is there is it? I might know a guy who has a couple, if we get this together he might bring some out. This is where the chipping in would help. Fully automatic rifles usually aren't cheap to shoot.... I'm gonna start a thread and see if we could get some people interested...... -

I'd like to get with some people in my neck of the woods, er, city... Would anyone like to get together and share some knowledge with other members before it's too late? I don't think I'd have much to offer in the way of survival experience but would like to get with a group of people and learn. Does anyone have a place to gather? Does anyone an area of expertise they like to pass on? Military, medical, outdoorsmen..... anybody? I mean if people with less to offer enter a group, it will just make things harder for the original members. I think a meetup like this has been established before. I'm thinking that at least some of the people on here are in the same boat I'm in on the matter. Outside of ex-military and a few ethusiasts, a lot of people are relying on books, movies, and forums to learn possibly life saving skills. Trying them out before you need them is pretty important..... Members that want to attend could give some examples of what they'd like to learn or what they could teach. If everyone chipped in a few bucks/materials we could learn these things before they're needed. Maybe ammo for some shooting, food for open fire cooking or preserving methods, etc.... Maybe I should have started another thread....... lol -
That could be a good idea. I'm not sure where the closest one with a/c is. I also know a few people that have had their stuff robbed from them. My wife and I were talking about that right after I made the post! We're gonna look into it. We also have one closet that might be able to keep a few months of food in. It's just one of the only closets we have and it's full of junk. lol I think I have her convinced to hold a big yard sale and all the money will be spent in preparations. I'm wanting to get a better shotgun or a nice assault rifle sometime soon.

It hadn't turned bad yet... I'm all for opposing "debates" but with an open mind on both ends. It's the best way to see how well your plans and ideas will pan out before they're tested.... Religion and families usually get the ball rolling toward a "bad" kind of debate. Al Sharpton is a waste. One of the worst kinds of manipulative racists ever. When he meets his end I'll have a drink..... Actually adding to the thread now: I will HAVE to stay fluid during the initial phase of whatever happens. I have rifles, shotguns, and handguns, but live in an apartment. No room to store and can't build any kind of defenses. I'd be forced to outlive others and adapt to a better location when one becomes "available."

It really is amazing how fast these threads turn bad...

I couldn't care less if others believe in God or not. I do think more people will start during ANY catastrophe. People seem to gravitate toward something higher than them in times of uncertainty. Whether to share the stress load or to find strength and companionship. Most of the time it helps them through, so I'd say it would be a good thing. Plus if we fall into a state of lawlessness, biblical law wouldn't be a bad place to start. I'd MUCH rather surround myself with religious zombies bent on doing good, helping eachother, and protecting what they value than a horde of people wanting to take, kill, etc.... Religious debates bore me. It's the same stuff over and over..... Anytime someone says things like "your wife and child are next on the doggy diner menu" just sound ignorant. We all know we must protect ourselves and loved ones, but throwing it out there like that is childish. To take a human life must be a heavy load, one I hope to never bare. If that day comes I believe I have prepared myself the best I can to defend me and mine at whatever cost, but to pretend it would be of no emotional consequence is once again ignorant. If you are able to kill children as easy as you make it sound, you not human anyway and are already gone....
-
Hmmm, sounds like fun.... Does everyone actually get together or just say they a part of a group once they're in?

I was given my last pack by a guy, who had been given it by a park ranger. Nice North Face pack full of gear. Said something about the hiker getting scared by bears and leaving it....

I just checked on it's facebook page the other day. They were discussing how it was a joke. One guy was saying he knew the guy that started it and couldn't believe that many people fell for it. So, anymore info? Should we just show up and do it anyway? There were 7,743 people checking yes for attendance and 6,xxx? more as maybe coming. Possibly 13,000 people! That would shut towns down!!! -
Deals on anything survival related?
bigbabysweets replied to bigbabysweets's topic in Survival and Preparedness
That deal on batteries really is a good deal. I've wanted a Surefire but those batteries' cost scared me... Thats a pretty sweet hookup on medical supplies! I wonder if I know any old people.......... -
lol Thats awesome. It's always great to hear someone twists the truth to make some extra money. Like I said I remember reading that vaccines/autism went up at the same time. I wonder if it was the same guy..... Glad to see my post got people thinking... even if they were a little mislead! lol

There's no telling what these things are doing to us. I even heard that this "I have to have sanitizer hanging from every loop on me" phase has brought out new strains. My wife has DOZENS of little Bath and Body Works hand sanitizers. It is what it is. The more we try to destroy the natural order of things, the more they will destroy us...... Don't we have to add all sorts of nasty things to vaccines anyway to make our bodies realize them as a threat. Because fighting a weakened/dead strain wouldn't really help you kill a full on outbreak of whatever it is. In order for your body to ward of some full force monster, wouldn't it have to learn ON a full force monster? ..... I forget with vaccine it is but I think it's been proven to cause Autism. I think they made it manditory in the 70's and 300% more people got the vaccine and autism rose like 300%... I don't know for sure.... It's past my bedtime.....

I had heard somewhere that even the shuttles we send into space now have less technology/computing power than alot of 90's model vehicles. The astronauts even use a sextant and navigate celestrially.... Kinda off subject and not 100% on accuracy......... How could I check my tngunowners forums!?!?!?!? I grew up in the country without power/running water/ or dependence on anything a EMP could damage when I was a kid.... some of my best years actually....

OH MY GOD! It's about two hours away from here..... I'm only about 100% sure me and a ton of people I know are gonna be there. Even if this DOES turn out to be a prank, after we all look like idiots... GAME ON! Just cause they weren't planning on actually playing doesn't mean we can't!
