  1. It's WAY more than I want to spend, but I have been in a group where several questions were asked. It gets some conversations started for sure! You see some things about people's thought process quick. I just looked a few questions up online, just to give people examples about the game. I think you can download a version for your smart phone for like 4.99 too.
  2. Will do, he's probably due soon.
  3. There's a guy that comes to the shop and makes one out of a rail road spike every couple months! I like the historical aspect of it.
  4. Have you guys looked at the C.E.R.T. classes in your areas? They are run by FEMA which worries me a bit, but might have some good info, especially in the higher classes....
  5. I made TONS of these little things. I've lost 3 of them to friends thinking they were just trash and tossing them into a fire. I bought a big circle cutting bit that just knocks out that big divot in the bottom, saves time and cuts! I also polish the other divot because I heard you can start a fire with it if it's polished and sunny enough. I also found that some cans' divots are slightly larger than others.
  6. Training and practice. No matter what you get, you need to know how to use it and not wonder when the time comes. I'm looking into CERT classes in my area along with pistol and rifle training. No matter what you have stored, if you can't defend it, you're just holding it for someone else. I'm trying to talk my wife into a mid sized dog......
  7. Just a heads up, there are some free classes in Dandridge every Saturday. The classes are hosted at Fort Hope in Dandridge by a couple knowledgeable people and cover several topics. The first Saturday the B.O.B. was discussed. Last Saturday we talked about bugging in. This next Saturday we'll be talking about fire making methods. Eventually they'll get to water, shelters, and eventually possibly weapons. The said they were planning on having a CPR AED certification class there as well as a HAM license class/test. It's supposed to be a 8 week course... Just passing it on. You can find the group on Meetup.com under Eastern Tennessee Preppers...
  8. I wanted to get into it, just couldn't get motivated to knock on doors and ask permission. No one I actually know owns land worth checking. I bought a Fisher F2 to check fields for CW relics.. I might get around to it one day...
  9. Bwahaha That's awesome! At least he knows you'd man up and risk a whipping just to help him out! Maybe next time he will buy you a $100 knife!
  10. No lie, you should/could probably make some money on this!
  11. I was laughing so hard at that first deer leg picture! I was like, " what is that, a deer leg?" Sure enough, it was... Lol Knife looks good! I'd keep a copy of that deer leg close by for the before/after reveal!
  12. These things are awesome! I have a couple. Once I found out their usefulness, I never leave civilization without one! And I don't mind at all about the pic brother!
  13. Well then they need to protection! Lol
  14. Looks nice. Does the sheath have a welt/thread protector?
  15. I make knives with and for people on a daily basis. We teach to cut away from any part of yourself. I know a guy who was skinning an elk. He was cutting away from his body when the knife was snared. He ripped through and into arm he hadn't thought to watch out for. Now his whole arm is dying, even after multiple surgeries. So, not just away but make sure it never comes toward any part. We tell them how to pass a knife. If it's a folder, it might not seem dangerous but this is the start of his knife handling experiences. Might as well cover all the proper skills. He might want a fixed blade soon enough! Keeping the knife maintained is important. Cleaning, oiling, maintain a sharp cutting edge, and sharpening. If you maintain the edge before you HAVE to sharpen it, you'll save time and increase the life of the knife. Like anything else, self defense is your call. A knife is just a tool, it's how he uses it. If you think the need may arise I'd teach him. For me it's better they're educated about it. If he was gonna pull a knife on kid, not teaching him self defense would only make it worse. Boys will be boys.... Give it to him from time to time when you can supervise if it makes you feel more comfortable. Observe how he uses it. Give him some chores to do while camping and observe without him really noticing. Cutting wood for a fire, cutting rope for tents, etc.
  16. Made my tomahawk today. I'll post pics eventually. It took longer than I thought! I like how sleek yours looks though! Quick and deadly!
  17. I had a guy offer $7200! I'd love to see what we could get into with this! I picked my little girl up from school in it the day before yesterday! I also tried pulling a couple stumps out for a guy with it. The chain snapped, put his gutter into his roof, dented his wall, and shattered a bedroom window! Lol Us 0 stumps 1
  18. I had a teacher in middle school get messed up by ants. She was hunting in a stand and somehow managed to fall out and land unconsciously into a fire ant mound. I forget how she got to the hospital, but she had a thousand or so bites.
  19. That looks amazing! I was gonna try to make a tomahawk out of a ball peen hammer tomorrow, this makes me want to even more! I need some tomahawks for a ministry I'm getting into. Since I make things similar I can't seem to cough up the cash to go buy one!
  20. If I don't sell it, I'm modding it. I want to reinforce some things.....
  21. My miracle story isn't as drastic as others, but it's still miraculous to me. I had an '04 Dodge Ram. I came out of a tunnel where it had been raining a lot. Tthey had started doing road work so there were concrete barriers on the right and a concrete median on the left. My wife's cousin and I were talking about religion about 10 minutes prior. We hit a standing pool and hydro planed into concrete wall on the right at about 55 mph. The whole truck shot over and I remember seeing the wall we hit out of our front windsheild, not a glancing blow on the lower part of the brick, but at around 45*. The front of the truck hit first and then the back smashed into it hard enough to throw my wife who was laying down in the back against the back door up right. I then had to wrestle it to keep it from pin balling back and forth between the barriers. My little girl never woke up. I pulled over to survey the damage.... None. There was a nick the size of a nickel that may have come from it. We just said it was there to remind us it wasn't a dream. Can't explain it.
  22. Traced mine back to the 1500s on my mom's side via ancestry.com but only to my great grandfather on my dads 's side. I've seen pictures of castles my family owned and tapestry bearing the last name of knights jousting. Apparently in the 1700-1800s my family did a lot of sailing and enslaving. I'm related to the Middletons. Including the one that just got married and the my great great grandfather (or greatx3 grandfather) on the Middleton Plantion and Mansion in Charelston S.C.
  23. The last one is my favorite of the three!
