  1. Why wait till it leaves NK airspace? I think it would be much better if they were blown up as soon as they hit the button, self destruct style. Leave Kim Dumb Punk standing there charred black like Whlie Coyote....
  2. Affordable... I like that... Lol It's the same stuff over and over. White men have been blamed for everything. They need to face the facts that if it wasn't for the white man, where would the nation be? They'd be hungry and cold that's for sure! We may not have always done it the right way, but it got done, and I don't benefit from it any more they they do. They people in mu generation have really experienced any hardships I haven't. it usually comes down to how much you want to work and how long you'll wait for a handout. The same people that scream equality and injustice only do so for their own gain. If they really cared about the immorality of slavery and racism, they'd go to one of the numerous places it exists and do something about it. Unfortunately, that doesn't pay nearly as well, isn't as safe, and its harder to get the attention they crave. In college, I found out the first slaves were white (Slav was a term for white middle eastern men and I'm not talking indentured servants. They came later as a different class), they'd kidnap poor white children off English streets and shipped overseas ( that's where the term kidnap actually came from and wealthy kids were not allowed to play outside in fear of this), and the Irish were thought of as inferior to the African slaves. The Irish were worth less and were treated accordingly. There are a few more things I have learned in college, contradictory to what I had been taught previously, but Ill skip for now. What it comes down to is no one ever whats to accept responsibility. One race/gender/religion/ etc will always point to another. The only way to end it is to punish the individual quickly and severely. As long as they have some hope of getting away with it in any sense it will happen except for the few crazies. It seems America has become too sensitive. Everyone is so worried about offending everyone else and not looking like a bigot, they make the criminals look like a victim and the victim look as though they deserved it. If you need an example, look at Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Two guys that would not do away with racism if they could. Crooks. Steal money from their charities, take huge bribes, further hatred between races, and extort money from larger franchises. They had NASCAR buy them off or suffer negative media due to the lack of black drivers. They were paid in NY to avoid a boycott because only 25% of the McDonalds were black owned, even though they were above their average of 14.?% Stole millions from a charity that was to purchase instruments for inner city youth. It is on my bucket list to outlive both the P.O.S.s..... I also don't agree with any label that puts a country of possible ancestry before America, IE African American. If you want to put American of African decent, fine. We are all (should be if living in this country long term) Americans regardless of where your great x3 grandpa came from. If you're living here, it must be because its the greatest place you can think of living, or at least someone before you did. America, love it or leave it! -Rant Over.... I came from a school system that in many instances being a white student made you the minority and had to defend my heritage ALOT!.
  3. I don't like anything that crunches when I step on them... Is that weird?
  4. I wish I had joined the military. I had always wanted to when I was growing up, did the ROTC thing in high school, and joined some pre enlistment thing with the Marine Corps. I started a business as soon as I was 18 and by the time I sold it I had a wife and kid... With the current situations at hand, be it economic uncertainty or threats domestic or foreign, I would feel more confident with the training and would feel more entitled to speak about my rights. I feel having served to protect them would have given me validity to talk about them. That being said I hate how America has come to appear to so many others. They come here because of our "freedom", then complain about it when it's exercised. The same right that allowed them to complain about the tattoo, is the same one that gave him the right to have it. It seems like common sense is getting tossed out the window to try to not seem offensive. I know so many people who do things in order not to seem offensive, like vote for a president so no one can call them racist. I knew a black guy that hated white people, even me. I just figured he'd come around. He wasn't hurting me, he just didn't like me because of the color of my skin. His right (although I think it's wrong) and I couldn't care less. P.S. Rah Rah, if you're reading this, I hope you came around. You can't always be negative! Lol I need to stop writing so late at night. When it gets past my bedtime my post just seem weird when I'm tired....
  5. I know the caption makes the boat pic funny, but what was he really doing in the first place? It doesn't even make sense to begin with. It looks like a boat built from scavenged pallets. Every time I see the guy with the spear on the front I think of Moby Dick... So get 'em Ahab.
  6. I forgot all about that sharpie method! I used pass that on all the time! You can also buy the wheels for bench grinders. I know a lot of people have one of those in their garage they hardly use. If you have the right make, they even have aftermarket jigs you can attach to get a uniform edge.
  7. Oh, and to answer your question..... When I was a cook we used one of the Smith's pull through double side sharpened at the same time doohickeys... Worked for us.
  8. I'm gonna go out on a limb and state what may be obvious to many, but in the off chance someone doesn't know...... Sharpen a knife for the purpose you intend to use it. Being razor sharp is only good for a razor (or a show off lol) etc. it doesn't matter to most people and their pocket knives. I use mine for cutting string, cleaning my nails when I have to mingle with the uppity folks, and for showing friends, "look how sharp this is." When it comes the bushcraft knives, axes, etc.... It matters a bit more. You can't shave with an axe, and you can't chop down a tree with a razor.... Or can you? Also it much easier and lengthens the life of the knife to MAINTAIN an edge than to resharpen it. If you have your knife sharpened the way you like it, as soon as you notice it cutting a little worse than it did when you started, maintain it! Some people don't realize a blade edge will roll at first before it breaks or chips. If you straighten the edge back out from the roll, you save it from having to be sharpened later. Ever see a butcher use his steel or a barber his strop, they're just restraightening the edge they already have. It keeps the knife sharp without having to resharpen it! I use a ceramic crock stick. I use this stick every time I make a knife. They're like $2 - $6 at Smoky Mtn Knife Works depending on how robust of a model you purchase.
  9. I've also wanted to try this, but never really... well, I am what doctors call "Lazy". I'm not really sure if there are huge differences in draw knives besides sizes. I've seen quite a few at the flea market. When I was looking into it before I read that the wood is usually season for a while, like a year. I thought hickory was a popular domestic wood and Osage and Yew were highly recommended. I've also heard of people just making a spur of the moment stick bow without the seasoning and draw knife in a pinch. Now, to do this primitive accurate you also need to brush up on the skill sets of cordage making and flint napping. I have never made a bowstring but I have knapped some arrowheads. I'm not sure if any of this helped, I'm really bored at 4:25 in the morning.....
  10. We use those big juice bottles when we're done, we had some 2 liters before I quit drinking soft drinks and we use milk jugs for water.... Free storage save money for things that need storing!
  11. I think " glamorous" is an opinion. I think sitting around getting fed for free, getting my bills payed, and being able to do whatever I want every day is glamorous. I might not be able to afford to do the things others want, but I like sitting around and tinkering and talking. I know someone with like 5 kids. Works under the table for the most part of the year. Husband makes decent money, probably under the table. Food stamps cover pretty much all the food, free medical for the kids, etc. Last year she got back $15,000 while I paid $15,000. She was bragging about buying here kids atvs. She makes more than I do! I also see people "cutting back" to be able to maintain a work free lifestyle. Only getting basic cable/Internet, buying off brand cigarettes, selling food stamps etc... I think the welfare should be done at a STATE level. Once it's gone, it's gone. Let people know that they are taking the food out of some else's mouth. Benjamin Franklin said that a nation that supports its people will fail and that it should be done at a family level first, then community, city, and state. I think birth control should be mandatory. I think it should be on a short term unless you're disabled. I think if you get foods stamps and things like that, you pay it back with your income taxes. I see too many people with a better life than the working man, without working for it. Eventually enough people will be standing by with hands out and too little to work a feed them. Ben frank even said that people only work if they had to and the places he'd visited that were the poorest were that way because the people would rather be given the goods than work for them. The scales are already turning toward the lazy. People that work for a living are getting out voted by people that vote for a living. Once the economy crashes, no one is getting supported.... I had an idea once. It came to me during the bailouts. I thought that since the government only allows you to buy certain items with food stamps, why not make the items themselves? I mean the cheese company is making a mint off the government, even if it gives them a better price than the public. The government would be making money on itself putting less burden on the system. Then if they had the workforce comprised of those needling assistance it would be getting something for its money at least. Then again, I don't think I'd trust 100% government food (mostly whats in now) and it seems kinda communistic and a like a forced labor camp. I may see things differently than some....
  12. I wish any room in my house looked like page 141......
  13. Craigslist. I seen a guy selling a half dozen metal marine gas cans once. He had a pile of them. I always check Craigslist......
  14. Nope, light colored hardwood and baige do not go together. Now if that finely dressed and perfectly matched gentleman would step aside, I might be able to refer you to a better wall color...... Lol I heard once, " a man can either be right, or be happy. Choose wisely." Matching or not, I'd go with the wife.... Lol
  15. That would creep me out more than if it were a skull. Looks like a relic from the temple of doom! Lol
  16. Put the pieces together, trace them for a pattern, reuse the wood! I thought about making a DIY etcher- I'm interested on how yours turns out. I just didn't trust myself enough. Lol
  17. I think he's done too much talking to be taken 100% seriously. I do think there might still be a chance for war though. No one knows his intentions, maybe he'll talk himself into it. Especially if he thinks someones backing him. He may be banking on those close cities to be a nuclear human sheild so he can launch them without receiving  them. Calling someone's bluff is a dangerous thing to to, especially when its this POS thats out of touch with reality.   I've seen fights where guys were gonna, "punk him out", but got called out and dropped. We might be saying, "Do it then" but the ones that make that call, won't be the ones feeling the punch...
  18. Thanks! I had seen a few with the head as a pommel, I wanted to try something a little different. I even went online to fin some fresh ideas-zilch. There were some that were more refined and looked a little more like a higher end knife or a "blued" one or two. I decided to see what would happen if I flipped the whole thing over and hammed the head out into the blade... thats what come of it. It the backwards way of a spike knife. I called them combat spikes, perfect for the upcoming zombie apocalypse!   Spots- I enjoyed making the middle ones more than the usual, because they werent usual! I had to make sure the head of the spike didnt fold into the rest of the blade. The first one I had made folded in on itself and made a "crack" in it. I feel you've done a lot more forging than I have, so you may have already been awareto avoid those dirty folds....
  19. I've made hundreds of knives from railroad spikes. I think the tomahawks are cooler though! lol For the most part they make better conversational pieces than working knives. They will work as a knive, but if you really get into hard use, they'll fail. The older spikes are low carbon. If you find one that has HC on the head it is a high carbon, for a spike, not a blade. I believe a spike is a 1030 metal. That means its only 30 points carbon. I try to stay closer to 100 points or 1% carbon for knife blades. The newer spikes (i forget which date 70s - 80s) were all made of high carbon, for a spike, metal. You can also add carbon to the metal. There are several ways, if interested I can talk about those, ya'll may already know. Here are a couple I made a couple years ago I think. Its the only picture of my RR spikes I could find..... Check the ones out in the middle! I wanted to make something different than the usual rr spike....
  20. It happens brother. Some days I can do no wrong in the shop, some days I can do no right..... I wish I knew what kind of day it was gonna be before I get out there! If it were me, I'd sand those broken pieces down so they weren't jagged and use them for "educational" pieces. I teach people how to do this, so I'd use them as examples for tapers, grind styles, add a hammon to it.... Etc.
  21. I love seeing your knives! They always look invincible!
  22. Glad to see it! I can't I imagine how great it must feel to finally get outside!
  23. Awesome info guys! Thanks! I wish I could contribute but nothing comes to mind.... :(
