  1. The KNS article is dated 9 Feb 2008 ("Likewise, U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., a supporter of the parks and gun-owner's rights, has not decided on the ban.") while the Citizen Tribune article was 30 April 2008 (yesterday) so I'm guessing the RINO has made his decision. Noted the wbir site comment: "Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander says he sees no need to change the current rule."
  2. 3. According to a new article in the Morristown Citizen Tribune Senator Alexander won't support this change. Sorry can't find a link for this. "Don Barger, regional director for the National Parks Conservation Associations, worries that the easing of gun restrictions will increase poaching. He also said the low crime rate in parks can't justify the need for greater access to guns for personal safety. " ' the current regulation is reasonable and necessary,' he said. "U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., who maintains a home near the Smokies, agrees. " 'President Reagan adopted rules about guns in parks in the early 1980's, which allow them under some circumstances," Alexander said. ' I haven't seen any need to change those rules.' "
  4. http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/N-Firearms_News.html Ruger? Issues Product Safety Warning and Recall Notice of SR9? Pistol April 9, 2008 Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE:RGR), announces that it has determined that Ruger SR9 pistols manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008 can, under certain conditions, fire if dropped with their manual safeties in the "off" or "fire" position and a round in the chamber. The pistols will not fire if the manual safety is in the "on" or "safe" position. As a responsible manufacturer, we want to make our customers aware of this safety concern as soon as possible. Ruger is finalizing the design of a new trigger group which prevents firing when dropped and will retrofit at no charge all Ruger SR9 pistols with serial number prefix "330" (330-xxxxx). ...MORE
  5. This subject was discussed here: http://66.34.33.169/memberforum/viewtopic.php?t=260 This link is a letter from DOT which states the posting was done in error and those signs "were removed from all Welcome Centers and Rest Areas." http://www.tennesseefirearms.com/law_regs/postedletters/tdot.pdf
  6. So they didn't "comb" the other coloured buildings?
  7. Rather than spending hours posting to these forums I believe Mr. Harris was contacting the legislators that might actually help us. Without the support of gunowners no one, repeat no one, is going to be effective not even the NRA. You don't have to join the TFA to be kept in the loop; just go to the web site and sign up for the TFALAC Alerts. That way you'll know what is happening in the Assembly and when it is time to again contact your legislator.
  8. Well said Warbird. Some here apparently have a personal dislike for Mr. Harris and extend that to the TFA. TFA is known by most legislators in Nashville... certainly more than know of the TGO. As for less activity on the TFA forums apparently those members aren't concerned with just racking up the number of posts made by sending out "me too" or "I voted in that poll". Complaints about a small attendance at chapter meetings makes one wonder how many here have even tried to go to one of the meetings. All the chapters ask what subject the members want to hear yet few suggestions are given to those chapter leaders. The purpose of the TFA is to get gun owners and 2nd Amendment supporters to get involved with their legislators. We have an real person that follows up face to face with those legislators on firearms issues. Like any organization it can only be affective if the members get involved and take action. The continuous sniping about the TFA "not doing anything" gets old when it is the only state gun group that has a proven record of getting gun friendly laws passed, or blocked laws that hurt us. Do we get everything we want? Of course not but at least we're still active and working hard in Nashville; the lack of forum activity notwithstanding. We can only hope that firearms owners will be as active contacting their elected officials as often as they post comments to all the forums to which they belong.
  9. I believe this is related to the discussion though I could be wrong: <!--StartFragment -->From TFA Executive Director, John Harris: Tennessee Firearms Association, Inc. Legislative Action Committee The Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals has this week issued a decision regarding Tennessee Code Annotated Section 39-17-1322 which sadly eliminates the legislative intent and the protections offered by this safe harbor statute and leaves citizens and handgun permit holders are the whim of prosecutors and law enforcement officers. State vs. Tracey C. Clark - M2007-00496-CCA-R3-CD _View_ (http://www.tsc.state.tn.us/OPINIONS/Tcca/PDF/082/clarktopn.pdf) Separate Concurring Opinion - _View_ (http://www.tsc.state.tn.us/OPINIONS/Tcca/PDF/082/ClarkTraceyCCON.pdf) Williamson County - Appellee, Tracy C. Clark, was indicted by the Williamson County Grand Jury for possession of a weapon on school grounds. Appellee filed a motion to dismiss the indictment based on a claim of self-defense, averring that the facts would not support a conviction for the offense. The trial court dismissed the indictment after conducting a pre-trial evidentiary hearing and determining that Appellee could not be convicted because he acted in self-defense. The State filed an untimely notice of appeal. This Court, in the interest of justice, accepted the late-filed notice of appeal. Because we determine that the trial court improperly conducted a pre-trial evidentiary hearing on the motion to dismiss which essentially involved resolution of the question of Appellee’s guilt or innocence, we reverse the trial court’s ruling and remand the case for reinstatement of the indictment. This court of appeals decisions creates now the need to legislative address yet another issue that heretofore seemed pretty clear when the statute provides " shall not be charged" because the Court of Appeals clearly disagreed with the consequence of reading that clause literally!

  15. Got this off the Bullseye list: Dear Shooters: The Tennessee Shooting Sports Asssociation is working with Brian Zins to offer a two-day instructional shooting clinic. This is a great opportunity lto learn how to shoot Bullseye from one of the best shooters in the country. The cost of the clinic will depend on the number of attendees (limited to a max of 24).... I estimate that the cost to shoot the clinic will be between $150 and $200. An exact date has not yet been established but we anticipate that it will be held at Columbia, TN in September or October. The clinic will be a two-day event, held on a Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm each day. 18. My told of two incidents when he was bullseye shooting in the late '50's: A match in Florida where the line had standing water and a copperhead swam down the line. At another match a well endow female shooter had a .45 case go down her open blouse and when she tried flipping it out the case wasn't the only thing to be freed. :-)
  19. Tipton county, same as Naifeh. Bricco's web site is labeled as though he is running for U.S. Congress; I presume this is an old site?
  20. Whilie not a regulatory agency you might find some ideas here: www.saami.org
  21. <!--StartFragment -->From TFA Executive Director, John Harris: Under the current TN law on beer sales (local regulation) and alcohol sales (ABC state regulation), there is no such thing as a bar. By law, all must have at least 50% non alcohol/beer sales is my understanding from the liquor lobbyist. Therefore, any "percentage" rule is unworkable to define a "tavern" from a family restaurant. Add to that the concern that the restaurant association, although they have backed off this issue, will oppose any legislation which requires a business owner to keep records for the purpose of requiring them to post signage about the ratio of sales. Bottom line - we cannot accept any percentage deals. john
  22. I believe it means it was withdrawn by the sponsor though I'm not certain of this.
