  1. It's funny that you mention the magazine being full or not. I seem to remember that it was on the full side. Can't say for sure. Not a good feeling with only seven rounds in the mag to begin with.
  2. Factory only, anything I could find at the time. When I try this time it's going to be reloads.
  3. It's been a while since I've fired this thing because of the issue. Right now it's an expensive non carry boat anchor until it's solved. Not sure if it was a full mag or not. I'll be shooting this thing soon so I'll report back.
  4. I bought a new one to out in the lineup. Going to load a bunch of rounds and see if I can rule that out. Someone had mentioned the possibility of a feed ramp issue. Would there be a way to identify that by inspection?
  5. Have a Sig P239 .40. When shooting it ejects the empty brass plus a live round and chambers the next live round. No jams, just cycles three cases. Any ideas? It is intermittent and I will be getting in contact with an armorer, but I'd like to try some suggestions if anyone has any. Contacted Sig and it's prior to their lifetime warranty. Not interested in spending half the price of the gun to ship and update the gun, especially if there's more wrong with it outside of their update.
  6. I match what the local PD carries. If not the caliber, I at least have the same make of round. If it's good enough for the police to protect themselves, it's good enough for me. I was told by other LEO's that legally it presents a better case in the unfortunate event it had to be used.
  7. I am not telling you to get a Lee, BUT it already has everything to trim your cases except the caliber specific rod. I put mine in the drill and trim. It's a lot cheaper this way. Carefully look over the Lee Anniversary Kit. Most of the stuff talked about here is already in it. If you decide you don't like it, I don't think you would have a hard time selling a press.
  8. This is what I have as well. Sent a lot of rounds made by it.
  9. I have limit knowledge on that because I only a few steps ahead of you here. I started these types of rounds a few months ago. From what I have learned, you don't want to just neck size for an AR. You want to bring the entire case back into factory spec. That will knock out at least one die from your list. There are a lot of helpful people here. One thing I will say that has recently been added to my collection are the much recommended comparator and headspace gauges. Be prepared to eventually pick them up. My .223 die is a Lee with the factory crimp die and I'm pretty happy with it now that I know what I'm doing with it. If you look through Lee's website they have some interesting propaganda (I've bought into it and like it). Don't know what RCBS has to offer, though.
  10. Depends on your gun. Is it going into an AR or some type of semi or into a single shot?
  11. I agree. This is the kit I have (anniversary edition). I use the priming feeder on here, but will eventually upgrade. For now that money is more usefully spent on components. I never did use the scale. Went digital form the beginning. My friend who walked me through from the beginning after I read the manuals complimented the Lee stuff I had over his RCBS. Nothing wrong with his, just like some of my stuff. Make sure to invest in or get as much load data as you can. I have several books and recently bought the iBooks version of Hornady's manual. Better than the Amazon for index features. The loads in that manual are much lower charges if you want to stretch your powder. Be sure to get a bullet puller as well. I don't recall seeing one in those pics.
  12. Bench grinder? Maybe I'm not understanding, but this would give a consistent rounded edge.
  13. Picked up my comparator gauge and headspace bushings as well. Pleasantly surprised by the results I already have. I know I can measure off comparable rounds in factory ammunition to get numbers or use the overall length gauge with the modified shell, but am wondering if there is a written standard for comparator numbers?
  14. Post deleted and moved to "OAL" thread.
  15. Have a friend with a 336 35 Rem. Claims he has seen it stocked at Sportsman's Warehouse here in Chattanooga. Ever make it this way? If you do I can pick up a box and meet you if I see that it is in stock.
  16. I don't understand. What happened?
  17. I'm aware of the addition because the powder being used was dirty and soldiers weren't cleaning the guns properly. It was a necessary improvement. I agreement to be sparing with its use. For my own academic reasons, how do you use the assist ease the bolt home instead of slamming the bolt home?
  18. There are several good brands. Bushmaster has $50 rebates now. Advice I have always adhered to is to use what military and law enforcement use. If I am not mistaken, slickguns has them on sale for $700 plus the $50 rebate. This is the same model many LEO agencies are using. Sport models usually have lighter barrels and heat up much more quickly and accuracy can suffer until they cool. Forward assist seems to only be needed if the gun is really fouled up or as someone mentioned before about reloading issues and you need to help the round into the chamber (been there, done that). If it wasn't needed they wouldn't have put it on originally. The dust cover thing is handy when I am in the woods and need to track something or get to a stand and am making my way though the brush. Any cover over the action is a plus.
  19. Have to disagree I've called a few reloading vendors such as Lee Precision and Sierra. It's not from cutting corners. On the Lee dies paperwork they specifically state to ensure the chamber is supported and make notes about Glock .40's. In the early design for that caliber they designed the chamber for cycling reliability by cutting into the chamber. While this pisses some reloaders off, it is merely a function issue they have since changed. According to these people that I had called in the past they said the newer designed barrels support the case more. If you find bulged cases you can rework them with a bulge buster, but it'll shorten the case life. May want to find some other cases to reload for yours instead of those. Head separation doesn't sound fun. The incidents of the kabooms I have read were from ammunition failure due to reloading. It's is hard to find accurate info on these kabooms because there is so much slander online without the facts.
  20. Made a holster for one recently. Not a bad size considering the caliber. Need to be a little picky how you carry it. My friend and his wife really like it.

    Thank You

You will love it. There's a reason people have said so many times over that it is the ultimate handgun.
  22. That's what I have and never have gotten it to work.
  23. Wanted to follow up on this. Thank you for the help. Looks like I've nipped this problem in the bud. To make sure I'm not going to far the other way, I am taking the advice and getting the headspace and comparator gauges.
  24. I've tried at different times to call them over the past few years and never can connect. Do they have a working number other than what the website gives? (Outpost Armory)
