Life member here. It was partly a monetary reason for me, though I do think the NRA does a lot more good than harm. I was hoping to also stop their every-other-week asking me to renew for another year. It did, but they just ask for money for different reasons now.

Well kids, as I promised, here is the responce from the Haslam camp: Mayor Haslam has said consistently throughout the campaign that he supports the current permitting law as it’s written. When asked recently if he would sign legislation passed by the General Assembly that would change the current concealed carry permit system, he acknowledged that he would if determined through the legislative process to be the best course. However, as Mayor Haslam has made clear throughout the campaign, his focus if elected will be on creating jobs, improving our schools, and managing an incredibly difficult budget situation through conservative fiscal leadership. I never asked about jobs, schools, budgets, etc.. Typical rhetoric. I'll be honest. I will vote for this man, I just wish he wasn't so much of a politician!

I think you & I are on the same page, Mr. Shoot. That was kind of my question to start with. If the HCP process is eliminated, might reciprocity be eliminated also?

Okay, back to the "ignorant country boy" thing here. If the second statement is true, wouldn't the natural progression be the elimination of the HCP? I'm just saying, if being able to legally own (and thereby posess) a handgun is simply your age and other items mentioned above, where will the HCP serve a purpose? It seems to me we are making the permit optional. Put that scenario to a driver's license. If I am old enough to drive a car and that makes it legal, what is the point of going through the license process? Sorry to beat the dead horse, just trying to get convinced.

Somebody school this ignorant country boy. My big concern with repealing the carry law is reciprocity. How can TN have reciprocity with another state if we TN'ers don't have a law in existence, and vice versa? I am a permit holder, and I am the first to question whether any law will restrict us citizens or protect our liberties. I guess if I plan to travel outside the state, I would be inclined to keep the carry law just for that purpose. Am I wrong?

Hey out there. Hope someone can give me some insight. I purchased a Colt 1911 that some idiot had scratched the United States Property from the frame. I cringe every time I get this out of the safe, but that is water under the bridge. My question is how much does this detract from the value? I searched this topic before I asked it, so excuse the post if this question has already been asked and I just missed it. Thanks.

Ditto, DaddyO. When I am not carrying during the service is when I accidentally leave it at home! I am not looking to hijack the thread, but I'll add that I feel some church members are called to protect the pastor. That being said, we had a gentleman come in during one of our morning services a few months back. Thankfully (???) he sat directly in front of me, rocking back and forth anxiously. Right as our pastor made it to the pulpit to speak, our visitor quickly got up and began walking towards him. I slipped out of the pew and was right on his heels. He knelt at the altar for a very quick second or two, popped up and started walking out. I was "helping" escort him out, too. THAT day I forgot my gun. Remembering to carry hasn't been a real problem for me since. I believe in love for fellow man and all of the Good Book statutes, but I also believe in the preservation of my wife as well as others, not to mention little ol' me. I don't know how many ladies of the church told me how secure they felt when they saw me get up after this guy. I'll keep packin'!

Applying the 1st ammendment to this site is like applying the 2nd ammendment to every building in your city/state. My good guess is that we here all believe in our 2nd ammendment rights. We have the right to own firearms, plain and simple. HYPOTHETICALLY speaking, try excercising your 2nd ammendment right at the *police department, *sheriff's office or at the courthouse - "someone else's house". Your presence will no longer be welcome at these locations. (Though instead of being banned, you'd be detained!) You rights haven't been violated, but you broke the "golden rule". The man with the gold makes the rule. Same-same here. David's gold, David's rules. *NOT intended against LEO's!!!
