  1. Agreed. I shot about 100 rounds through the Glock after I was done with the Ruger, and I'd much rather be using the Glock. I'm going to try that when I go back to the range this weekend. I wanted to limit the variables this time out since we were breaking them in.
  2. My wife and I took our LCPs out to the range yesterday to break them in. Hers functioned flawlessly with 100 rounds. Mine had 3 annoying FTE / stovepipes on the last round of the magazine. We were both shooting mostly Privi Partizan FMJ, and also shot 7 rounds of Aguilla JHP. Mine was only FTEing on the PP. Any thoughts? Pretty sure I wasn't limp wristing, and the fact it only did it on the last round makes me think it wasn't just cheap ammo. I was thinking about getting a new magazine spring and seeing if that fixes the issue. As an aside, the LCP is a great little gun. Very accurate despite the small sights, and very manageable. My wife didn't have issues with the recoil (she despises my Glock 22 for that very reason).
  3. I'm talking about the Convention Center itself - I know about the park. However, the city's website seems to indicate that the Convention Center is in the park. - I guess that answers it. City of Knoxville - Maps
  4. I ran a search and came up dry. I'm going to be spending the next couple of days down at the Convention Center. Anybody know if this place is posted? Thanks.
  5. I got my permit a few months ago and if I'm vertical, I am carrying. I get my gun along with my car keys and wallet in the morning.
  6. Glock 22 IWB in a Crossbreed supertuck when I am in the mood.
  7. If I am outside the confines of the house, or working on a car in the garage with the door up, I am always carrying. Inside the house I don't carry regularly, although I'm never more than a couple of steps from a loaded handgun or rifle.
  8. Razorback and drv2fst have all spelled out the reasons why I prefer to carry concealed. The only time I've ever OC'd is at home and on my own property. However, I don't have a problem with folks that OC - just not my thing.
  9. One of my carry guns is a G22 IWB in a crossbreed supertuck. Overall, I am pleased with this combination although it prints a little too much for my taste (mostly the grip). I've played around with cant and other adjustments in the holster, but I guess some printing is to be expected with a full size. However, I noticed that the crossbreed will apparently fit a Glock 23, and J&G has some Gen 2 police trade ins for less than $400. Does that extra .5 inch or so off the grip and extra inch or so off the barrel make that big of a difference in terms of a CCW?
  10. If it is improperly posted, its their own problem for not being able to read the code / hire an attorney to do it for them. I personally follow the 'concealed means concealed' logic - meaning I'm not going to ask management to fix / clarify their signs, and ask if its ok to go armed. If for some reason I get 'made,' I will leave without argument.
  11. I've carried in there several times (right past the mall cops on their black segways ) and never had any issues.
  12. Well, the doomsayers that said this law would result in drunken shootouts have been proven wrong - have to make some news with a nice push poll to report on.
  13. I've had the same apprehension, but after playing around with a few quality holsters (I carry either a G22 in a Supertuck, or an LCP in a Nemesis or Superfly depending on attire) - you realize that there is no way the trigger can get pulled accidentally.
  14. This sounds like a good scenario for carrying a less than lethal weapon, like pepper spray.
  15. I bought an LCP last month and have been pretty happy with it. I put 100 rounds through it with no issues. I looked at (and shot) a P3AT, but the Ruger won out mostly due to the fact that it fit my hand better, and seems to have a better fit and finish than the Kel Tec.
  16. I hadn't heard of this one until now, but after reading a synopsis of the opening statements, I don't see how it was justified. Both sides seem to agree that the victim was unarmed, and the defense doesn't seem to be making an eggshell argument. What really bothers me is that (again, it seems both sides agree on this point) is that the defendant went into the truck and retrieved his pistol before shooting the victim. He could have taken refuge in the truck with his wife in the Hummer, and waited for help to arrive. If the victim had tried to break into the car, it would have justified through the castle doctrine. However, anything can happen in a jury trial - I'll be curious to hear the verdict.
  17. Thanks guys. I picked up a LCP over the weekend as well and it has the same problem. Coming from a liberal / anti family, I always hear (still hear) all that crap, so its fun to vent a little. <br /> <br /> I thought about a 10mm, but I didn't want to be placed in the axis of evil for owning a weapon of mass destruction. The 22 is an LEO trade in I got a good deal on back in January, and I have a hard time resisting a gun with some sort of history.
  18. On Friday, I finally received my holster (Crossbreed Supertuck) for my G22, and decided to start carrying (I received my HCP last month). We started out by going to a non-posted restaurant in Knoxville that serves alcohol (oh, the horror). I somehow managed to avoid getting drunk (or even drinking any alcohol, as I was carrying) or shooting my fellow restaurant patrons, and enjoyed a quiet dinner. I was also pleased to discover that the Glock disappears in a pair of relaxed fit jeans and an untucked t-shirt, so no one seemed to notice. No screaming children, no fainting women, no MWAG calls, not even a long stare. Followed up dinner with a movie, which was likewise uneventful. Now, I thought that when I started carrying, my handgun would discharge at random, cause me to get into drunken bar-fights, and scare women and children? Do I have a defective handgun?
  19. I only intend to use force to protect myself and immediate family. Unless I know 100% of the facts involved, I'm not putting myself or my family at risk for a stranger by drawing a gun. I'll dial 911 and be a good witness.
  20. Complete application on 5/25, fingerprinted on 5/28, permit arrived 6/14. My fiance hasn't gotten hers yet - her application was complete on 5/28 and fingerprinted same day.
  21. Thanks Fallguy - my script blocker wasn't letting me see the links.
  22. I skimmed the thread but couldn't find the actual amendment language - does anyone have a link to the actual language? When I pull up SB3012 on the Tennessee Legislature website, I get: ... (3) The notice required by this section shall be in English, but a duplicate notice may also be posted in any language used by patrons, customers or persons who frequent the place where weapon possession is prohibited. In addition to, but not in lieu of, the sign set out in subdivision (4), notice may also include the international circle and slash symbolizing the prohibition of the item within the circle. (4) The sign shall be of a size that is plainly visible to the average person entering the building, premises or property and shall contain the following language: AS AUTHORIZED BY TCA § 39-17-1359, POSSESSION OF A WEAPON ON THIS PROPERTY, WITHIN THIS BUILDING, OR THE POSTED PORTION OF THIS BUILDING, IS PROHIBITED. A VIOLATION IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE PUNISHABLE BY A FINE OF - 3 - 01212471 $500 AND POSSIBLE IMPRISONMENT AND HANDGUN CARRY PERMIT SUSPENSION. ... This reads to me like the 'gun busters' signage is only valid if its accompanied by the larger state mandated sign - which is similar to the current law: 39-17-1359. Prohibition at certain meetings -- Posting notice. (a) An individual, corporation, business entity or local, state or federal government entity or agent thereof is authorized to prohibit the possession of weapons by any person otherwise authorized by §§ 39-17-1351 -- 39-17-1360, at meetings conducted by, or on property owned, operated, or managed or under the control of the individual, corporation, business entity or government entity. Notice of the prohibition shall be posted. Posted notices shall be displayed in prominent locations, including all entrances primarily used by persons entering the building, portion of the building or buildings where weapon possession is prohibited. If the possession of weapons is also prohibited on the premises of the property as well as within the confines of a building located on the property, the notice shall be posted at all entrances to the premises that are primarily used by persons entering the property. The notice shall be in English but a notice may also be posted in any language used by patrons, customers or persons who frequent the place where weapon possession is prohibited. In addition to the sign, notice may also include the international circle and slash symbolizing the prohibition of the item within the circle. The sign shall be of a size that is plainly visible to the average person entering the building, premises or property and shall contain language substantially similar to the following: PURSUANT TO § 39-17-1359, THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF THIS PROPERTY HAS BANNED WEAPONS ON THIS PROPERTY, OR WITHIN THIS BUILDING OR THIS PORTION OF THIS BUILDING. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS PROHIBITION IS PUNISHABLE AS A CRIMINAL ACT UNDER STATE LAW AND MAY SUBJECT THE VIOLATOR TO A FINE OF NOT MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500). I figure I must be missing something here. Is it just that they eliminated that "substantially similar" language that has some of you upset?
  23. We had the OPTION to have noted on our certificate what model and caliber we qualified on. No serial numbers were recorded. Lett placed an emphasis on continuing training and practice, but specifically stated that there was no requirement to re-qualify if we changed carry guns (correct reading of TN law).
  24. Thought I'd bump this back up after taking the class. Thanks for the info, the shooting portion was easy, so we stressed about nothing. I was pretty impressed by Sgt. Lett's class and the instruction provided. The range facility is really nice as well. The class also seemed very friendly to females - my fiance had never shot a handgun (just shotguns and rifles) before the class and had a positive experience (ready to get her own handgun and go back to the range). My only gripe is that I wish the state would change that video or just eliminate it (not a reflection on Lett at all). Most of it is horribly inaccurate, and we went over the issues in better detail in the lecture.
