  1. Is it weird if I also carry frag grenades on my plate carrier when I go out to Wally World? :tinfoil:   If I have to go somewhere where I feel like I need body armor - I don't go to that place.
  2. That made my morning, thanks.    Is there a shortage of tinfoil?
  3. Been looking at them too. Is it pocketable (slacks or dress pants, not cargo pants) at all or is it too big size wise?
  4. I like it - I've been eyeing a single stack 9mm, and this looks like it fits the bill.   Did Remington have any issues when they released the R1 1911s? The recalls with the XDS / Shield / LCPs have me leary of early adopting.
  5. .380, meh. I'll keep trucking with my LCP. The Remington R51 has me more interested at this point.
  6. Glock 22 w/ 22 round magazine (180 Gr. Federal Hydroshocks) and a Streamlight TLR-1S on the nightstand, Mossberg 590A1 (10 rounds 00 Buck) under the bed.
  7. Yeah, the barrel and receiver have the same finish, but its got that dull dark gray or black finish you are describing. Its definitely not the same as the Garand's worn parkerized finish.    Thanks for the opinions guys. For the record, I have no desire to sporterize either rifle. :puke:
  8. Ever since CMP opened up their new "custom shop," I've been very tempted to send my two war rifles off to have them restored. However, I'm not sure if doing so would hurt their value, so I'm open to hear some opinions from those of you that have more knowledge about these things. The rifles in question are:   M1 Garand, summer of '42 production date. I purchased this rifle from CMP about 10 years ago. It was supposed to be a Greek return, but after receiving the rifle i'm more convinced that it was Danish and CMP simply screwed up what pile they pulled the weapon from. It has lock bar sights, milled trigger guard, beech stock and a VAR barrel. Bore is good, and the weapon has obviously been re-arsenaled many times during its service life. The barrel and gas tube had been re-parked at some point, but the receiver, op rod, and other parts still have their original well used finish. My thoughts on restoring it would be a complete re-park and a new USGI stock form CMP. The beech stock is in decent shape and I'd probably just put it in storage.   1903 Springfield - original, no Mark I, A3, etc. Its a high serial number weapon, production date somewhere in the 1918 - 1920 range as far as I've been able to research. As far as I can tell, it was re-barreled in '42 and then placed in storage sometime after. The bolt shows some wear on the handle and on the moving parts, but otherwise she is a good example of an original 1903. About the only thing I'd want to do it it is have the metal parts re finished (I don't think its parkerized, its almost more like a blue or black finish). I'm more inclined to leave this weapon alone, honestly.   I'm not looking to sell the rifles at any point in the near future, but I don't want to do anything to destroy their value. I would like to have the Garand look like she did when she rolled off the production line in 1942, but not if its worth more in its current condition.   Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  9. I tried a buddy of mines 30s last time I went to the range and I'm giving serious consideration to replacing my 27 with one.   If Glock would make a singe stack 9mm to compete with the Kahr CM9 I'd be down at my local gun store with cash in hand.
  10. LCP pocket carrier here as well.   If I'm wearing cargo shorts (read something with deep pockets) I have pocket carried a Glock 27 in a Remora Holster. I usually carry that weapon IWB with the Remora, but its a nice alternative when you have to deep conceal for some reason and you want to carry something bigger than a .380.   I've been curious about trying the CM9 myself (or the Sig 938). I'd like to upgrade to something bigger than my LCP, its just hard to beat its size when you have to wear a suit on a nearly daily basis.
  11. Voted yes, although I can't think of any reason why I'd carry a long gun out in public.
  12. Congrats on the purchase. That's been my primary EDC for about 4 years now, mostly front pocket carry.   I've had good luck with PPI and WWB. Also had good luck with Aguila hollow points. My primary defensive load these days is Winchester Ranger T and the gun has never had a malfunction on it.
  13. I'll occasionally see folks oc in West Knoxville. Last guy I noticed was OCing a FDE High Point, which is something you don't see every day.   I'll try and sport folks CCing if they are are wearing tells (Glock tshirts, monkey fists, 5.11 gear, NRA merchandise, etc.) but most folks around here seem to be pretty good at it.
  14. I have a CMMG 20" government profile upper (http://www.cmmginc.com/product_p/22b6a17.htm) and have been pretty pleased with its performance. I've probably only put 300-500 rounds through it due to the ammo shortage, but it hasn't had any FTE / FTFs. I'll second Oh Shoots comments on accuracy, mine seems pretty dead on with a Bushmaster detachable carry handle rear sight and stock a2 front sight. I haven't mounted any oprtics (yet).   The rest of the rifle is an Omni polymer lower with a CMMG parts kit that seems to play nicely together.
  15.   That was my experience with the magazines (I can't remember if they are CMMG or Black Dog). My dedicated ar15 .22 is built on an Omni polymer lower, and the tolerances seem to be tighter than the aluminum lowers I've fooled around with.
  16. No, I didn't have any ammo in the gun. Just doing a test fit of the bolt to a virgin AR I had just built (I hadn't bothered to file the magazines down yet) and couldn't get the thing back apart. When I got that particular rifle to the range, it stove piped the first round and completely locked up shooting 556. I think it may have just been some issue with that particular rifle, although after that first malfunction I managed to put about 500 rounds down range with further hangups.   Thanks for the link. I think that is the one they shipped with my .22 upper, but I'm going to go home tonight and check. Seems like a cheap reliability upgrade.
  17. I had a CMMG kit and caused my rifle to completely lock up (could not take the weapon back apart except for beating the butt stock on the ground). I sort of assume that I got a lemon and it was slightly out of spec or something, because I've seen nothing but good reviews of them otherwise.   I built a dedicated .22 ar15 using a CMMG 20" upper and it works great. The bolt looks to be nearly identical to the one used in the conversion, and I have not had any reliability problems out of it.
  18. I had a 22/45 bull barrel that was one of my favorites until some punk broke into my house and stole it. Only reason I haven't bought a replacement yet is because of the .22lr ammo shortage.   Out of the box (no cleaning, no lube) I put about 2500 rounds through it before I ever cleaned it - so I was pretty impressed with its reliability even with the changes from the MKII to the MKIII.
  19. Yeah, I kind of like that sound.
  20. I've put several hundred rounds through mine, no issues.
  21. My wife prefers Glocks. She used my G22 to take the carry class, and it has become her favorite gun (I had to buy her a Glock just so that I could shoot mine when we go to the range). She wasn't crazy about the .40's recoil at first, but got used to it real quick. At this point, she hates shooting my Ruger MKIII because "it feels like a toy."   The instructor at our carry class taught her a technique to pull the slide back. She uses her grip hand to push forward on the gun, while pulling back on the slide with her off hand. Works every time.
  22. I made this trip earlier in the summer and stayed in Alexandria, Va. Va honors the TN HCP (we drove from Tennessee so I wanted to be armed while traveling), and we took the Metro in and out of VA to visit the DC tourist attractions, and left our carry guns locked in the safe at the hotel. I felt perfectly safe while in DC and on the Metro, and we followed the precautions listed above (stay in the populated areas, do do stupid stuff). Don't carry any spare magazines either - each unregistered round of ammo in the district is a criminal offense - even if you don't have a gun on you. OC spray has to be registered with the police as well, and all the government buildings and most of the museums had prohibitions against "martial arts devices" - so I also had to leave my OC and monkey fist locked up with the carry weapons. No big deal though, don't do anything stupid and have fun. Its worth the trip.
  23. Andy, I never got that far - the CMMG bolt assembly itself caused the rifle to lock up. I saw the instructions about sanding down the magazines, but they weren't casuing an issue. Trout, thanks for the info. I'm leaning heavily towards just spending the extra money on a dedicated .22 upper, just wanted to see if it was worth giving CMMG another shot since its cheaper.
  24. I'm new to the AR platform, and built a rifle earlier this year. Before I took it to the range, I had picked up one of the CMMG .22lr conversion kits that everyone seems to love. However, when I inserted it in my rifle, it completely locked the rifle up (could not take apart the rifle without beating the stock on a hard object, could not work the charging handle, etc.). Rather than stick with it, I returned the kit and just exchanged it for some .223 ammo. The rifle itself works fine with .223 /5.56, as I've succesfully shot about 1000 rounds of Lake City surplus, and about 500 rounds of Tula / Wolf steel cased rounds. I love shooting it, and I'm wanting a .22 conversion since its cheaper to shoot. I'm wondering if the issues I had with the CMMG kit were just due to the fact that all the parts were brand new, and now the kit may work better since the rifle is broken in. Anybody have a similar experience as mine? I don't want to waste money on another kit if the CMMG conversion is picky about the types of rifles it works with.
  25. +1. I went to see Dark Knight on Friday with my wife and some friends at the downtown Rivera in Knoxville. I looked at all the entrances, and no signs were posted. They searched women's purses for 'weapons' as a feel good security measure, but my friend and I both carried concealed (I was pocket carrying an LCP, my friend had a G22 IWB) the entire time. No one was shot, hurt or otherwise injured, and it was a non-event.
