  1. The Hi-Power would be a fine choice. I've had one and it was great. I also have a 1950 model Colt LW Combat Commander in 9mm. It shoots great and is a real looker. It has a finish on it that you don't see on most guns now a days. Recoil is decent and is right on the money out to 25 yrds with fixed sights. If it wasn't so pretty it would be my EDC. Any of the 1911's mentioned would probably be fine. I prefer a commander size pistol (4" bbl) in 9mm.
  2. Pepper spray was not allowed at the VA where I worked for 35 years......but it was a mental hospital.....maybe different at a GM&S hospital...but I don't think so.

    .45 ammo recall

I just got a call from Federal ammo and they are sending out UPS to pick up the .45 ammo I had on recall. Then they'll send me a check. Their customer service was great to deal with.

    .45 ammo recall

I just got off the phone with the Federal people. I have three boxs of Champion .45. They said the part number WM5233 should have the lot number on the upper left corner on the back above the bar code. I had one box that had the lot number there. The other two boxs the lady said should have the lot number on one of the end flaps inside. My two boxs had lot numbers of 123R6 stamped on the end flap (the lady said these were safe to shoot). The one box with a lot number of V38X713 was on the recall list, it also was in a wider box than the other two. I think it might have been an older box. I bought the two smaller boxs at one Wally World in Murfreesboro and the other across town in the other Wall World. I'm waiting now for Product Services to call with info on returning the one box. Maybe this will help some to figure out how to check the ammo.
  5. I finally got around to shooting this months targets. I must say I enjoyed this match very much. Still nothing to brag about but it was fun.
  6. I've had two HP's. One back in the early 80's. The other was one made during WWII during German occupation. The Germans used slave labor in the Belgium factory to produce these guns. The fit and finish wasn't aything like post war guns (very basic war effort...go figure). It had all the German (Nazi) markings. I liked my HP's but I let them get away from me.
  7. Well ole St. Nick brought my present early this year. I went to the mail box and found my carry permit waiting for me. I waited three weeks and got a letter wanting more info on an event 40 years ago. I sent the paper work in and waited another four weeks. It doesn't matter now, I'm go to go. Merry Christmas to all my TGO friends. Beartooth

+1 on the TCP. It fits my hand and pocket. No problems to date. I haven't shot the others mentioned (probably would be good guns) but the TCP is the perfect mousegun for me.
  9. I have an old 1911 made in 1913 (best I remember). It's old and worn out (it's almost 100 yo) but still packs a punch. I like to shoot it every now and then. As a matter of fact it is my bed side security. It's in such worn shape it's not worth much (not a safe queen) except to me. I think it is really neat having a 1911 this old and still working great. Sometimes I wonder if it was used to fight the Kaiser in WWI. Who knows....... I'd say if you can find one get it. There's a lot of history around them. Good luck.
  10. I just took the class yesterday at G&L. Great class and great instructor. Well worth the drive. There were no "know-it-all's" in our class. Your right the range was very nice. I shoot at On Target fairly regular but I couldn't see paying that much for the course. I like shooting at On Target but G&L has a lot more eye candy to look at in the store. The prices seemed right also.
  11. I put a Hogue Jr. slip-on grip on mine and it works fine. I did have to cut it down a little but that's no big deal.
  12. Thanks...that was what I was looking for.
  13. Does anyone here have any experience with this handgun. I did a search on the forum but couldn't find anything. Tell me the good, bad or the ugly.
  14. In auto's I would say either Colt 1911 (.45) or Commander LW (9mm). In revolver Python 6" (Colt custom trigger and Pachmayr grips).
  15. Hi everyone I'm Barry. I'm new to TGO and from the 'Boro (Murfreesboro). I just found this board a couple of weeks ago. I've been reading a lot and getting a bunch of good information from here. I enjoy most outdoor type of activities but flying ultalights and motorcycles seem to take up a lot of my free time these days. I've been out of the shooting sports for several years now but I'm starting to get the gunpowder in the blood feeling again. When I lived in the country I used to shoot quite a bit....then one day some low life decided he needed my guns more than I did and helped himself to them. I sorta lost interest in guns and shooting for a while. I did manage to keep on hunting some (gun and archery for deer, dove/turkey hunting). Now I'm stating to get the urge for handgun shooting again and sites like this help add fuel to the fire. Thanks TGO for providing such a fine site.
