  1. Thanks man I really like them. The Pearce finger grooves were also a really nice addition over the smooth front strap. This is my first 1911, so far so good!
  2. That looks really good, I've seen where some others over on 1911forum have done the same to their grips. Here's what I did with my RIA grips, took them off and put on some Wilson Combats.
  3. check budsgunshop before you buy that way you have a price to go by. it is cheaper to pay $30 transfer fee than sales tax on a $500 gun
  4. nice reading information, thanks for sharing. i'm waiting on my first 1911 to arrive at the ffl from buds
  5. i bought the 28" version too because it is cheaper to buy the 18" than 28" from cabelas. you should do the same, then you have both barrels. the 18" is accurate, with rifled slugs i kept a 3 shot 2" group at 25 yards using the beads, no rest
  6. any interest in the knoxx spec-ops stock? i have the recoil reducing one i had on my maverick 88 but went back to the original stock. Cabela's: BLACKHAWK® SpecOps™ Adjustable Stocks
  7. I would say check cabela's also. I got a Polartec fleece jacket from them and it is a great material. It is 100% windproof, warm pockets, and you can pour water on it and it will bead up and run off. As for a bigger coat I don't think carhartt can be beat for warmth and durability. I don't think you'll find the zipper to be an issue on a carhartt.
  8. I think he must be talking about the chamber being polished.
  9. i sold the sc. it was a really good gun and i never had one issue with it, it just wasn't filling any particular niche for me. the 4" xd is the one my wife shoots, and it has night sights on it so i didn't feel the need for 2 xd's. if I were going to have 1 do all gun, it would probably be the xd sc.
  10. thanks, it's my favorite. i didn't think it would replace my xd that's why i polished the barrel on it instead of the xd, now the xd is gone.
  11. nice pick and a good deal at that. dry fire it 500 times or so and the trigger gets real smooth
  12. My thoughts exactly. I was expecting a battlezone when I clicked on the topic. I just sold my 3" XD to get my Sig P239 fund started.
  13. the price is high but compared to expensive foreign sports cars i would consider it a great value lol
  14. no problem. check www.discounttiredirect.com that's where I was looking at the sizes. It has been a few years since I ordered from them, but that's usually the place I go to for price checks. I have also got a good deal on wheels plus tires from www.4wheelparts.com
  15. oh man that's a heart breaker. hope it doesn't alter its performance.
  16. 275/70-18 285/65-18 305/65-18 titan, you may well know how to read tire sizes but sometimes it still helps to convert the sizes into something a little more familiar, such as inches. I looked up the BFG AT's and looks like they are offered in the above sizes. You can take the first number, the width, and divide it by 25.4 to get it in inches, then the 2nd number is the height of the tire as a percentage of the width. 275 divided by 25.4 = 10.83" wide 10.83*0.70 = 7.58" tall So, with you are currently running almost an 11" wide tire with a diameter of 18+7.58+7.58 = 33.16" 285/65-18 would be 11.22" wide and 32.58" diameter. So it would actually not be as tall as what you are running just because the sidewall ratio isn't as large. 305/65-18 would be 12.0" wide and 33.62" diameter. That size wouldn't be much taller than what you already have, and to see if it would rub turn your wheels all the way in both directions and measure to your inner fenders to see how much room you have left now. My opinion, I wouldn't just add width without adding height because that will just hurt your fuel mileage anyways.
  17. Welcome to the forum and nice pick for a first gun. You picked one that can serve most all needs, now you'll have a hard time finding one you like better.
  18. I used to work for the postal service doing this same position but was layed off 3 weeks ago. I was browsing their site for other job listings and saw one in Knoxville doing the same job I had. The title is City Carrier (Transitional Employee) which is the same job I had here in Bristol. The TE part means you do all the work a normal carrier does, but you don't get benefits or insurance and usually work more hours. Doesn't sound like a very good deal, but the pay is $21.31 an hour. Here is the link, click search jobs online then look in TN. USPS - Employment with the United States Postal Service Like I said, I have nothing to do with USPS so please don't contact me about getting this job, I just saw it online and thought someone in the Knoxville area may be interested in it.
  19. I thought it was funny when I read it the first time, I was waiting for someone else to crack a comment about it.
  20. Another idea for a PVC stand I have seen done is to use a little larger diameter PVC and cut out the inner section of pipe on the vertical posts then use some polystyrene insulating panels as the target holder. Just cut out a rectangular piece of the insulation panel and slide it down into the slots in the PVC. They're easily replaceable and just use thumbtacks to hold paper to them.
  21. JMB I did a little searching around on the sig forum and here is a comparison of the 2022 and 229, that might help you some. Pro 2022 vs 229 - Topic Powered by Social Strata
  22. JMB, yes the 2022 is the standard SA/DA. It does require an extra piece to convert it to DAO, which they told me came with the gun but I didn't see it in the box. I didn't check into it any further as I like having the SA option. Since you already have a 226 I would get either the 250 or 2022 since they are both polymer frames and substantially less expensive. Like I previously stated, the kicker for me towards the 2022 was SA/DA and factory night sights, but I can see how the 250 in subcompact model would make a nice carry piece. If you read around some on sigforum.com there are a lot of positive thoughts on the 2022, most say it is sigs best kept secret.
  23. I was planning on buying a 250 then started reading on sigforum.com about the nice triggers on the SigPro 2022 which is Sig's other polymer framed handgun. I ended up buying the 2022 (around $500) because it has the external hammer and can be fired in single or double action, but you also have the option of making it double action only. Another perk is it comes with night sights. I love shooting the gun and it is the most accurate gun I have. I have put 1,100 rounds through it and it is also my carry gun now. I think it would be a good option for you to work your way into a DAO gun if that's what you think you may want in the future.
