  1. The Dem when they controlled all 3 branches didn't touch gun control and even when emotions were high and they though they could get away with something it failed at the federal level. I expect a slow crawl towards freedom in free america with those living behind enemy lines doing everything they can with the SCOTUS pulling them back every once in a while for going too far.

They were too busy taking over health care. They would have gotten around to it. If the repubs hadn't taken the house in '10, there would have been new laws in early '13.

Don't think it can't happen. It happened in '93 and '94. Not saying it will, but it can.

  2. According to legend, the Lee Enfield "Jungle Carbine" had poor accuracy or a wandering point of impact due to the lightening cuts that were made to the receiver. I haven't done an accuracy test between a full size SMLE and a carbine, so I can't attest with personal experience.

So while it may be safe, it may also affect your accuracy.
  3. I was under the impression (from conversations with others) that it was the same stuff that walmart sells at higher prices, with some of the infomercial crap thrown in for good measure.

That said, I've got more rifles than cases now, so a double rifle case for $20 is appealing.

Sort of, but not really. More like some overstock or overrun stuff, some cheap and/or inexpensive tools. A pretty good selection of books, at least at the east town store.

I may need to drop by and pick up one of those cases.

  4. Here's my take on revolver and pistols. For a once in a life time shot and the shot being my life I'll put my faith in a revolver. Oh yeah it dont hold 15 or more rounds but I think the reality that a pistol has a better chance of jamming will better my odds. I'm 80 and NEVER had a revolver jam. Pistols many times!!! I am not talkin street fight...I'm talkin home invasion.

I'm 42 and I've had a Smith & Wesson jam up hard, repeatedly, for no reason that I've been able to figure out. When a revolver gets jammed, it's not a simple tap-rack-bang. It will most likely involve disassembly. The reality is, if you've fired several hundred rounds through a pistol and it hasn't jammed, odds are that it won't when you need it. Given the same ammunition.

I love my revolvers, but I'll usually take a pistol for defense.

Back on topic, I don't carry a snub-nose. But my brother does. Why? It's small, simple and he doesn't have a small pistol.

  5. Go to the walmarts and buy 2 or 3 of the cheap pool mattresses/floats/whatever they're called. That'll get you and your gear across a body of water. They're light and cheap. Pretty durable too. I used one as a camp pad most of one summer and it held up for several months.

  6. Tellico Plains. Only place I've ever been that has six stop signs and no stop lights. I really don't know if we don't need them or just can't afford them.

Bless your heart. When have you ever seen the need for a traffic light in town? The only traffic back-up I've ever seen involved wagons, horses or tractors. Caused a few of those myself. :)
  7. I guess I was lucky. I was a nerd too (in grade school, a B was pretty rare, mostly A's), but by the time I could turn a wrench, my Dad had me learning how to work on everything. And I was mowing when I was big enough to push a mower. I look forward to teaching my little boy the same.
  8. I seem to have heard a couple stories about hand loads being an issue in self-defense shootings. And Dolomite has mentioned David's incident.

I know it probably WON'T be an issue, but I'd like to make it one less factor.

That said, if I happen to be carrying one of my oddball rounds for some reason, I'm not gonna run out and buy some expensive factory ammo for that occasion. I'll carry my handloads.

And, yes, I trust my handloads just as much as or more than factory rounds.
  9. Well, at least it didn't get uglier. :)

I don't mind the finger grooves myself. What I don't like is that my trigger finger rubs the frame on top of my finger and the trigger guard on the bottom. The rifle term for it is "dragging wood" and its bad for accuracy.
  10. Yes, we have the God given right to have a gun. But if that gun ends up costing you a thousand dollars instead of four hundred can you still buy it? How about $2 a round for ammo? Is that front door or back. I remember in the late 60's seeing folks walking out of the gun show with SKSs and AKs that they bought for less than $70. And cases of ammo for less than a hundred bucks.

Late '80s more likely, but anyway...

This kind of sounds like the people who say health care is a right. So if it's a right then it should be FREE! Right?

I do have the right to keep and bear arms, but that doesn't mean I have a right to obtain them at someone else's expense. Same with health care I (should) have the right to see any doctor I want, whenever I want without interference from the gubmint. But I have to pay market price for it.

I agree to an extent the the gov makes firearms more expensive because of regulation, taxes, etc. But they do that with everything. Yes, the feds have a hard-on about making weapons hard for the common man to acquire, but I can still get a pretty good facsimile of our troops' battle weapon for under $500, which, thanks to inflation, isn't really all that much.

Ammo has gone up and down in price for the last few years thanks to panic buying, but its still affordable in bulk. At the moment anyway.
  11. I haven't seen a Denny's in 15+ years! Waffle House is kinda like a Dollar General untreated sewage while Denny's is like Target.

    There,  Fixed that.

The absolute worst place I've ever attempted to eat was at a Waffle House in Columbia, SC.  I took a couple bites and had to leave.

I can't imagine chasing too much booze with a Grand Slam breakfast, but to each their own I guess...

    :puke:

  12. That's about all.  I made my wife one and put separate kits in waterproof bags inside the main bag.  I labeled them WARM, DRY, FIRE, and WATER.  If you don't get more than a couple days walk from home, I wouldn't worry about food.  Maybe throw in a couple snacks, but I can go a couple days without food.  And I am definitely not stopping to build a fire to heat water to pour in a bag.  If I have food, it's something I can eat on the move.
