  1. What part? Steer Creek here, it has been eighteen years or so since I left.

Between Tellico and Ballplay, but I went to school in town. I think I was a few years ahead of you.

I never really left. Circumstances made me sleep in Knox most of the time, but I get back as often as possible. Hopefully be back full time soon.
  2. Tooth pain is the most excruciating pain I've ever experienced. There's no way I'd go all weekend with that. Maybe go to a clinic and get some painkillers to survive on. The only time I've ever taken hard-core pain meds was for tooth pain.

Can't help with the dentist. I grew up in Tellico Plains. We always went to Athens or Maryville to the dentist. I have bartered guns for service with the dentist I see now, but I don't know if he'd do the same for anyone. I knew him before he was my dentist.

    Best luck.
  3. All them sissy mary hippies cant take cold weather. Their feet freeze in their birkenstocks and they lose the will to protest.

Not to mention the ones whose britches are around their knees. Their arses will freeze off.
  4. Wonder if that's what I heard about 5:45 this morning? My first thought was something just landed on my roof, but there's nothing above my house but air. I walked around outside and didn't see anything. I'll check in the attic when I get home this evening.

That's interesting. I kept hearing what I thought were small limbs falling on the deck about the same time.

    I need to go investigate.
  5. I will add this. T years as a Marine and we started on A2's in boot camp then got issued A4's in the fleet. While the 16" collapsible stocked carbines are all the rage in the civy world and with all other branches, the Marine Corps is big on tradtion. I loved my A4. Yeah it makes vehicle and helicopter stuff more of a pain in the boot, but when it comes time to accurately put lead down range out to 500 yards, I still feel most comfortable with a full stocked 20" AR instead of a 16" carbine. So enjoy yourself.

I like a compromise.  I'm leaning toward 18" barrels now.  16 is just too short in my opinion.  Barks too loudly, loses too much velocity.  But I have both 16 and 20 inch rifles.  So my next one will be 18".

  6. I've never used one of their uppers, but I've made a couple orders from their site. No problems.

They also used to set up at Knoxville gun shows. That's been several years. Owned by a couple of ladies, I believe. Very nice people in my opinion.

  7. Pancake Pantry!  :)    It's cash only, so be ready for that.

Honestly though.... I've never had anything in that area I thought was especially good for the money.  The reasonably good local places tend to be way over-priced and way too "touristy" for me.  The chain restaurants are the same as every other one with 20% higher prices.  They all get their food off the same Cisco or US Foods trucks anyway.  Given the option, I'd go to Cracker Barrel.  YMMV.

All true.  Except for the Cracker Barrel.

Like R1100R mentioned, Best Italian in Cattleburg is pretty good.  Of course it's been over a decade since I was there.

  8. Ouch.

Welding it would be my first choice, and I know a couple local welders who could do it. It might need to be re-heat treated after welding to ensure strength. That likely would require stripping the finish. I'll have to look up the temp for the heat treatment to see if that would kill the finish.

There are structural epoxies available that work well with aluminum and applying them is pretty simple. We do it all the time at work (I fix jet engine parts for a living). You'd need to blast the area to remove the finish so the epoxy will stick. Then you basically just mix the stuff, glob it in there, cure it (typically heat cure), and then machine it back to final dimensions.

That said, fixing it will cost more than just replacing it. But since is a special one, you might not have a choice.

Talk to Mike at Lawenforcementsalestn here... He's got the machine capability to do the work properly and he's in Oak Ridge. Getting another lower and having him re-do the engraving and the machine work might be the best option. Or if you just want to fix it, that's fine too.

Mike could definitely fix it. But he may have to serialize it and add it to his records.

I have used epoxy to fix misdrilled pin holes before. It held up fine.

Were it me, I wouldn't have an issue with it. But I probably wouldn't use it to defend my life, either.
  9. Macon originally. Lived in Henry county and Statesboro for a while.

Just curious.  Have some friends in Dawson County.

    Welcome to Knox.

Macon always reminds me of the old story about the guy who had an airline ticket to Maconga.

Maconga?  The airline employee had no idea where that was.  So he shows her his ticket.

    MACON GA

So, as far as I'm concerned, Macon, Georgia doesn't exist.

    It's Maconga.

  10. If you're not going heavier than 62 grain, I wouldn't go with a faster twist than 1:9.  That said, I've shot lightweight (50 gr) varmint bullets through a 1:9 20" barrel and they spun apart in the air.  That won't happen with FMJs or most hollowpoints, but it's a possibility.

Were I going to use it as a varmint rifle and rarely go over 55 grains, I'd go with the 1:12.

  11. I've loaded since I've been big enough to pull a handle, and I've never owned a case gauge. Except for some shotgun shell problems, I've never had a problem with a reload not chambering, firing, etc.

Why does one really need a case gauge?

The only time I've actually NEEDED one was when forming cases.  Sometimes the shoulder may not set back far enough or the neck may be too thick.  Otherwise, when reloading factory brass, a full-length resize takes care of it.
