That's my assigned duty weapon (P226 in .357 Sig). You're right, it's a handful, but my main complaint is that I can't afford to shoot the d*mn thing! Luckily I get 2 boxes / month for practice otherwise I'd never be able to shoot it!

I will say this. If you are military and use that to obtain your HCP, great. Nothing wrong with saving money from the class and putting that money towards ammo. Just make sure you take some time to go through the TCA and learn the laws that apply to firearms in Tennessee if you're not already familiar (where you can carry, when lethal force is justified, etc). That's the one thing (and a VERY important thing) covered in the HCP classes that you would not have learned in the military.

True. It used to be that LE/Military were exempt from the firing range portion, just had to sit through the 4 hours of classroom. They changed it about 4 years ago and now you don't have to do anything but go the the DL station and show your proof of military / LE training and set up your fingerprint appointment. I went a while without a HCP as an LEO, but when they changed this law I decided to go ahead and get it. It was too easy not to. From TCA 39-17-1351: (e) The department shall also require an applicant to submit proof of the successful completion of a department approved handgun safety course. Any form created by the department to show proof of the successful completion of a department approved handgun safety course shall not require the applicant to provide the applicant's social security number. Any instructor of a department approved handgun safety course shall not withhold proof of the successful completion of the course solely on the fact the applicant did not disclose the applicant's social security number. The course shall include both classroom hours and firing range hours. An applicant shall not be required to comply with the firing range and classroom hours requirements of this subsection (e) if the applicant submits proof to the department that within five (5) years from the date the application for a handgun carry permit is filed the applicant has: (1) Been certified by the peace officer standards and training commission; (2) Successfully completed training at the law enforcement training academy; (3) Successfully completed the firearms training course required for armed security guard/officer registration, pursuant to § 62-35-118(; or (4) Successfully completed all handgun training of not less than four (4) hours as required by any branch of the military.

I ran about 2 hoppers' worth through it and now it's throwing +/- .1 grain. I guess I can live with that. We'll see. I'm loading 125gr LRN cartridges. I loaded 25 with 5.3 gr of unique and another 25 with 5.4 gr. I'll take them next time I hit the range and see how they do. Thanks for the tips guys!

Yeah, that's true. The entire street is blocked off and ran under some type of "large outdoor bar" if you will. Security everywhere and, from what I've seen, it appears everyone gets checked when they come in. I haven't been down there since 2005, so I can't give you any more details on it than that. As far as the other places you asked about, I'm not sure.

Are the local gun shows any good? I haven't been to one in about 6 or 7 years because they started sucking so bad.

Same here. Safety is my main concern. If I understand correctly, you have to really overcharge (like accidentally double charging) a case before you have to worry about dangerous pressures, but I'm not into pressing my luck at all.

I also have some Universal Clays and some 800X. Should I stick the Unique back in the closet and use one of the others until I get some experience behind me? And thanks for the tip, Westwindmike!

Appreciate the tips. The only powder I've run through it thusfar is Unique. I've heard that statis can be a issue.

Hi all. I am very new to reloading. I bought the Lee 50th anniv kit which came with a "Perfect Powder Measure". I've set it up according to the directions and have measured several charges out of the powder measure and I am getting accuracy of +/- .3 grains. Since I'm reloading for 9mm right now, there's only .2 grains difference between "starting load" and "max load" on most loads. Am I doing something wrong, or should I "tweak" each load of powder before I put it in the brass or what?

The majority of the tube can screw off the nut that holds it up against the upper receiver. With no front gas block in the way, it'll easily come off (with a strap wrench) so you can get underneath it if you need to.

I don't think you'll really need the compensation, especially on a 9mm. I've owned one compensated gun in my life and, after firing it at night, I made sure it was the last compensated gun I'd own. You cannot convert up. If you want to shoot 40 and 9, get a Glock 23 and a 19 barrel / mag. You can put a 9mm barrel into a 40, but not vice versa. I have a G19 (9mm) and have never felt the need to do anything to it but add night sights.

I'm fairly certain the ATF form 4473 (Firearm Transaction Record) and the bound-book is what is required to be kept. And I think they have to keep them for 5 years if the transaction was denied and 20 years if the transaction was successful.

Oh, I forgot to answer your first question. It's a Hogue rifle length free float. It originally came with the Hogue pistol grip, but I used the pistol grip on the RRA on Spike's lower in the top pic.

Not true at all. The FFLs are required to maintain the paperwork for a long time and I believe they are required to send the paperwork into the ATF if they go out of business. My understanding is that they just need to have the paperwork available for ATF inspection for times that the ATF is trying to track down a gun used in a crime. I'm sure an FFL or one of the many people with more knowledge than I have will chime in here soon.
