  1. Section 3 kinda scres me. Yes, I like what it says, but it draws attention to the subject. When the last restaurant carry bill passed, few of the antigun folks paid any attention. The restaurants rushed to throw up a sign that consisted of nothing more than a gun with a slash and the words "NO FIREARMS". Might as well been a "No sharing food" sign. I fear that with a bill stating "exact wording" is required, they might pay a little more attention and more places will be legally posted.
  2. Googling "9mm orange box" got me nowhere (barely got me results related to ammunition). Now that I know the brand, yes google is very helpful Tripledigitride, that is a pretty wild coincidence. At least we know who is making the ammo. But at the price, I don't think I'll be loading up on any. Hoping they get in another shipment of the $8.96 Blazer Brass. So far I've had no problems with Blazer Brass at all.
  3. I've never used any RWS (and at the price I don't think I will). I assume it's decent ammo for punching holes in paper?
  4. IIRC, the Fiocchi is in a maroon box with "FIOCCHI" printed fairly large on the end. Unless they changed their packaging, it wasn't Fiocchi. Whatever it was, it as more of a burnt orange than maroon and I couldn't read anything on the end of the box from ~5 feet away other than "9mm". Looked like the center 2/3 of the box may have been a darker color than the ends. Really hard to tell with it in the unlit ammo case.
  5. So I stopped by Wally World in Bartlett this morning to see what kind of ammo they had in stock and I see a brand of 9mm in the case that doesn't look familiar. I had a $16.96 (per 50) price tag, so I wasn't too interested, but I wanted to know what it was. I asked the young man working in the sporting goods section to see a box of it and he told me he didn't have the keys to the case (it was about 6:30 this morning and they don't start selling ammo until 7:00). I asked him what brand it was and he told me he didn't know, but it was some kind of "Swiss military 124 or 125 grain FMJ stuff". I didn't insist on going around the counter to peer into the case and he wasn't making the effort to bend down and look either. It was sorta burnt orange in color on the end. Anyone have any idea what brand this was? At the price they had it, I don't forsee myself rushing back up there to find someone with keys to the case.
  6. Is Ed Mason the gunsmith in the back of the Dowdle Sporting Goods store? I stopped by there to see what he wanted to charge to install night sights on a Glock I had just bought. I forget what the price was, but he told me it'd be at least 2 weeks. I politely declined and bought a sight pusher and did the install myself. Been doing my own Glock sights ever since.
  7. Wow, that's pretty interesting. I wonder what the quality of it will be. I've never owned a Charter, but the ones I've handled in gun shops seem clunky and the parts seem to fit poorly together.
  8. Nice link fallguy. I hadn't seen the AG opinion about off-duty LE carrying on Tennessee Board of Regents campuses. That is a nice opinion to read. When I worked for UMPD we had many off-duty officers who would come to the station to lock their guns up before going to class (auto burglaries were WAY too common to even dream of leaving a gun in your car). We've still got a way to go to get permit holders legal on campus, but it kinda goes back to the video posted previously about the glory of the all-powerful "gun free zone". "Why do they call it 'common sense' if so many people don't have it."
  9. I figured I'd chime in real quick. I spent a couple years with the Univ of Memphis Police before I got hired in Bartlett and can tell you that in my time there, the only person I ever charged with carrying a pocket knife (on school property) was in conjunction with an aggravated assault charge where the knife was the weapon. Keep in mind though, that I'm also the the kind of pro 2A officer who "informed" 3 or 4 students carrying on campus with a HCP versus arresting them. I tend to be a little lax on the laws that I think are unfair and put law-abiding citizens in harms way. One consideration I would take (in the Memphis area anyway) is the knowledge of the LEOs. Many are not familiar with the laws they are supposed to inforce and may not read the law as black and white as they should. Not to mention those that just don't care. You don't know how many times I heard "he might beat the rap, but he can't beat the ride" - meaning the charge might not be good enough to hold up in court, but the defendant still gets a free ride to jail (not to mention the fun of trying to get your gun back out of Memphis's property room). It's a sad fact and many officers in many places would just as well be sending a monthly check to the Brady campaign because they don't think anyone should have a gun besides the police.
  10. Watch out if you ever consider one - they're addicting. When you finally talk yourself into one, you'll want another... and another... And a +1 for Caveman's woman and her ink. Nice looking work!
  11. Yes, they'll sell directly to you, but like one previous poster stated, they're having a hard time keeping up with demands. As far as my experiences, I've had VERY few problems with thousands of rounds of 9mm, 40, and 45. Had a bad batch of 380 one time that had some bad primers. All in all, pretty reliable and will get the job done if WalMart is out of your ammo.
  12. I'm definitely with you there. I've lost money on deals because I realized too late what I was selling. But my word is my word and if I tell you something, I'm sticking to it. If folks aren't sure they want to sell something, they need not offer it!
  13. Haven't spent much time on the radio at all the last few years. Sold the base rigs when my wife was pregnant and things got tight and haven't keyed up much since. I definitely have too many hobbies, none of which are cheap, but if you see a BPD car with a short dual band antenna on the trunk and an NRA sticker on the window, you found me...
  14. It says the poll is closed. Hate that I missed it.
  15. I've got to add a +1 for Range USA. I agree completely with a couple of posters who mentioned the attitude at Rangemaster was similar to that of Guns & A*******. I haven't stepped foot in Rangemaster in years. The last time I was there I listened patiently as one of the employees degraded me for buying a Glock and kept on preaching how great the 1911 is, etc. I waited until he was done, told him I appreciated all the useless info he had to offer as I already owned a couple of 1911's, but prefer Glocks as carry guns because... well, I can't explain why exactly, but I LOVE my Glocks, and that's a good enough answer for me. RangeUSA is the complete opposite. They want everyone to feel welcome. They want you to try out several guns to see which one YOU like. If you rent one of their guns, they'll let you trade out to their other guns without any additional charges. When my wife finally decided to get her HCP, I sent her to RangeUSA and she really enjoyed the class.
  16. Oh, and before any negative comments roll in, I work for the fine city of Bartlett. You all seem like gentlemen, so please reserve any opinions you have of the fine force in Memphis. Besides, I probably share your sentiment...
  17. Hi all. My name is Jon and I'm a new member in Memphis. I've learned a good bit looking through the forum and figured it'd be a good time to join in all the fun. I've been local LE for about 6 years and am no stranger to firearms, but there is still so much to learn!
