1. Deer are plentiful on our lease, great mix of woods, water, and fields. We were lucky this year, the owner decided to plant beans. I tagged three (2 bucks and a doe), four of us took a total of 11. No wall hangers, but mature bucks and good does (can't eat the antler anyway ;). I can recommend Pott's in wartrace, reasonable processing. They make great snack sticks and good summer sausage....blessed with a full freezer!
2. New article just came out regarding the potential of a black rifle ban.  Of note, apparently in Biden's speach regarding the recommendation he is making to the president on Tuesday, he ommitted any mention of a black rifle ban.  He mentioned high capacity mags and stricter background checks.    The author of this article states "Another change since the 90s-era ban is that many semi-automatic weapons are more popular now, including the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle used in the Newtown shooting, which is one of the best selling rifles in America. There are at least 3 million AR-15-type rifles in America today, and semi-automatic handguns have overtaken revolvers as the most popular handguns."   I thought that the AR-15 was in the trunk and wasn't used in the actual shooting?   http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/gun-control-debate-assault-weapons-ban-reach-094810128.html
3. Welcome from the boro
4. I love this quote "It is unknown if the intruder possessed any weapons or if he further threatened the family in any way". Really?? An intruder breaks in a home and the mother is home alone with kids, and she questioned if he posed a threat? Where do they breed these idiots?
5. I will have to let my wife read this. Been trying for years to get her trained. Watching the news now and the local Catholic Churches are asking parishioners to sign petitions to ban black rifles and high cap magazines.
6. The media is a joke nowadays anyhow, you can almost write anything without any substantiation or underlying facts.  The incorrect reporting is just as prevelant.  Much more importance is placed on "getting the story out quick" than correct.
7. Everyday there is a new headline.  This article does mention a former officer intervening with her weapon at a church shooting in CO.    With all do respect and sympathy for State Rep. Fields, does she really think that any of the restrictions being discussed would have prevented a murderer from killing her son?  I know I don't need to say this to this crowd, but a gun is a tool.  If someone is intent on killing someone, they can carry it our with or without a firearm.   http://news.yahoo.com/massacre-hardened-colorado-gun-control-test-case-084954441.html
8.
Well, it doesn't get much more in-your-face than that, I reckon.   "Kind of mad", LOL.   - OS
He seems a little pissed
9. I thought this article is pretty on point regarding violent crime statistics per capita and gun ownership stats.  Not that this will ever see the light of day in the mainstream media.   http://www.theblaze.com/stories/local-tv-anchor-delivers-blistering-fact-check-of-piers-morgans-anti-gun-claims/
10. The way I read it was that it would carry a stiffer penalty than is currently being enforced.  Again, I can't find the article...but I didn't see any of the headline hot button issues being considered.  I'm not saying that they aren't, I was just wondering if anyone knew of any specifics.
11. I posted this in the wrong thread...one of the linked threads above.   The article that I read earlier today indicated that the only items up for executive action related to enforcement of current laws (ie lying on background check app will be punished). Now I can't locate this article, not that it was from a "source". That the more serious issues (black rifle ban - refuse to refer use their term, mag capacity, background check at gun shows, etc.) are going through the deliberation then legislative process. Is there anything that details what they are considering under the executive action?   I don't want to downplay the attack our rights are under. However, I do think going through the legislative process would be a tough road to hoe; given that there are alot of NRA card carrying people on both sides of the aisle.   I'm having a hard time sifting through the hysteria vs. what is real; again no doubt the lib media and tree huggers are trying as best they can to rid the world of firearms...I've just tried not to jump on the wagon and pay the $ to buy some of the guns I'm in the market for. I've tried to not participate in driving the prices where they are, neither on the buying or selling side (now I've sold some things for reasonable prices, and can't buy what I want).

13. Thanks peejman, just fought this message after returning from my daughter's spring break...out your way in Townsend. I'll try the work email...I checked today (3 weeks and still no access). I can't wait to go out to my land and shoot the rifle this weekend.
14. Spoke with a representative @ DSA (real nice and helpfull). Apparently, the rifle was built in 1999 SA58 light weight with a 16" barrel. Apparently it is a CA model that has been converted (it has a detachable mag), pistol grip, etc. Still can't get access to fal files, been 2 weeks since I signed up and still haven't been approved by a mod. Anyway, the rifle appears to be unfired...if it has been fired it doesn't show.
15. By the way, if anyone knows of someone in the murfreesboro area with the tools to replace a muzzle break. I have the FAL and Sig 556R that I want to replace. I don't have a barrel vise and torch and think that it may be cheaper to have someone replace who has these tools.
16. Thanks guys. I signed up for that forum about a week ago and am still waiting for a mod to approve me. I figured my TGO bethren would know. I have an email into DSA.m I wanted to also verify that mine isn't subject to the recent recall before shooting it. I figured it was factory, I haven't seen any STGs with the shortened gas system. I can't wait to shoot this thing.
17. I finally found a 16.25" DSA SA58 with the shortened gas system. I bought it off of gunbroker. Is there a way to verify that it is in fact an SA58 and not STG? The build seems quality (from my little experience, actually no experience) with FALs. Also, any tips on replacing the flash hider? Thanks!
18. Thanks for all the good info. I'll try to figure out how to get some pics uploaded. @ parrothead, it looks just like the one in your avatar.
19. My dad is considering selling his Dan Wesson 357, he bought new in 1979 and has only put a box through it. It has spent most of it's time in the brown hard case it came in (which looks likes mini briefcase). It is a complete set with a 2,4,6,8" barrels, barrel changing tools. And includes the regular and commando grips. The only thing missing is that he said it came with a belt buckle, I can'tfind a good comparison for price, the majority of the sets I see don't have all 4barrels, and from what I can tell...the 2"is rather rare. Anyone have an idea what the value of this set is? Thanks!
20. I have a spike's tactical and really like it. I had one of the Barrett guys look it over and he thought that the quality looked good. I'm able to hit the target at 300yds, and I am just getting started in mid-range shooting. Good luck
21. The brand is a barska...I finally figured out how to install last night (realized I couldn't hold down the ring and pull apart, so had the wife lend a hand). Not sure if it will hold up, probably will spring for a quad rail, I don't think the screws will hold up during shooting (maybe a little loctite). Thanks for the help!
