UZI Mag conversion for RRA 9mm?
Dolomite_supafly replied to lshel's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
The link is a CProducts mag and they do have a BHO. They can be found cheaper if you look around. They are all I use in my 9mm AR. They run great. Dolomite -

Original Winchester Model 1895
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
What exactly are you wanting to clean? I would hose it down with WD-40 then blow it out with air. Do this several times until no more crud comes out. Then wipe the outside down with synthetic 30 weight oil. I would also use that same oil on the moving parts you can reach. Beyond that I would not alter or take it apart. Do not try to polish anything or shine anything and especially do not try to touch up any bluing. Doing it will ruin any value the gun has. Even having a screwdriver slip out of a screw slot can cause damage that will affect value. These gun came finished in what is called rust blue or brown. It is not your typical bluing but a black or brownish color, not blue. The brownish color is the finish and is not corrosion. It is supposed to be this color and not blue. Do not try to remove the brown/black and especially do not try to blue any worn areas. Because of the caliber it might be worth contacting Winchester to try to find a history. Who knows it could have been a military arm at some point in its life. Dolomite -
Gunsmith around Knoxville for old .22 rifles
Dolomite_supafly replied to a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Bob works on anything under the sun. He has worked on the cheapest guns as well as high end Krieghoffs. Funny story about the Krieghoff, he installed a picatinny rail on a double rifle so the owner could use it on his African hunts. They sent a picture to Krieghoff and got cussed out for it. Dolomite -
Is this an illegal SBR?

I have been looking for a cheap Mare's Leg to make a modern version of the Volcanic pistol. I think it would make it much easier to use and definitely easier to shoot. Dolomite -
I tried calling yesterday but the person I talk to regularly was out of the office. I will try again on Monday to get a verbal opinion on it. But of course that will have to be followed up with a letter. Dolomite

The factory FCG is fine. There are ways to improve it immensely. I persoanlly like single stages, like the factory trigger, better than twos tage triggers. As far as two stage triggers go Giessele is the best but the budget two stages, like CMMG or RRA, will also serve you well. I would avoid any of the target style triggers as they use an extremely lightweight hammer spring to achieve that and that can cause light primer strikes. And light primer strikes are the absolutely worse thing to have to deal with in a fighting carbine. As far as BCG goes, I am a phosphate kind of guy. The reason is the phosphate coating holds oil and lubricant better. This keeps the BCG protected. And when you start getting into anything else I would skip right by chrome. It has very little to offer above phosphate coated. Now the nickel boron treated bolts seem to be the best of every world right now. It requires no lube and offers a very protective coating. It is also very, very slick so it will be easy to clean. Also, whatever BCG you decide make sure it is properly hardened and the gas key is properly staked. Both of these are reliability and long term durability issues. The BCM bolt carrier is as good as the Colt. You are not upgrading by replacing the BCM with the Colt. As a matter of fact I think you are down grading. Colt is no longer the gold standard it once was. Aimpoints are great. Battery life is great. But I personally like a dot sight that changes dot intensity with ambient light otherwise you are always turning a knob or hitting a button. Not that big of a deal but if you are going from indoors to out or vice versa it can mean a matter of life and death if you loose your dot or it overpowers your sight picture. I have used a Burris Fastfire for a very long time now. It changes intensity automatically. It holds zero despite being on everything I own at least once. Battery life is also very good and it measured in years as well. But if you buy one make sure to get the picatinny protector as it protects the optic from bumps. Another optic that works really well for me is the Zoom Dot. It was originally made by Millett and is VERY durable. It has an autosensing reticle and the knob on the side changes the dot size from a 1 MOA dot to a 10 MOA dot. This lets you use it for close up work as well as make distant shots. They also have a very long battery life although not years. I use one every day and have for years. It uses standard Aimpoint batteries and the internals are all part of a single, easily replaceable wafer if it ever needs to be replaced. A few bits of advice you didn't ask about. Before doing a lot of buying shoot the gun and shoot it a lot. This will reveal weak spots as well as things to change to suit you. All too often people build the gun they think they want with parts they think they need for it to run reliably only to find out the gun has issues. Dolomite

Bob Howard at Predator is about old enough to have bought one new . Seriously though if anyone can fix it he can. They are reasonable and work quickly. Dolomite -
So What Happened....Care To Guess
Dolomite_supafly replied to runco's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
It is actually not all that uncommon. When I am picking up 9mm brass at the range, about every 6 months, I see at least one of these. And also not desireable but probably will not hurt a gun or the shooter unless the case ruptures. There aren't a lot of pressures there because the bullet has no resistance. To give you an idea of what you can do when there are no resistance look at this video: Not a bit of damage when firing a 50 BMG from a 12 gauge single shot. I would not try this and I suggest you do the same. -
If you can make it to Knoxville I have two boxes of ammo for it, well one is missing 5 rounds. Factory Corbon 135gr JHP. All it will cost you is a trip here. Dolomite

Use a Lee Classic Cast with the Hornady Lock-N-Load bushings. That is what I use and it works great. Dolomite

And PayPal policy states that they use the same policy as eBay. So if you can buy it on eBay you can pay for it with PayPal. I have bought and sold a bunch of gun related stuff and used PayPal. Never had a problem. Dolomite

Everything you describe is indicative of low powered ammo. I will say this. Use grease rather than oil for guns with rails. Grease stays put and dirt settles on top of the grease rather than getting sucked in. Walmart sells it in grease gun tubes for under $5. I use the gray colored molybendum disulfide but the red also works well. Oil runs out and offers little lubrication. Dolomite

Case lube is about ease as well. Carbide dies may not need it but sizing is so much easier when lubed. I even lube 45 ACP brass. It also prevents cases from getting stuck. I have had cases get stuck when I thought there was no way in hell they would. Or I have had rims get pulled off or pulled through the shell holder. Dolomite

David can get you a great deal on primed 12 gauge hulls. I am not a shotgun loader but I do know there are some you can and some you can't reload. It was way to confusing for me so I never took it up. Dolomite

Haven't looked but let me guess, Biden for the win! Dolomite
-
I am sure his constant smiling and laughing by Biden isn't going to be viewed very well. The country is on the brink and everyone in the nation is being hard hit yet Biden sits there and laughs. I think those who are hit the hardest will speak the loudest about this. And these debates do not matter. Those who are likely to vote for Obama are not going to be watching the debate and if they are they are not paying attention to what is being said. They are so indoctrinated to vote Democrat that Obama and Biden could have come out looking like idiots and they would still get votes. Dolomite

WOW, I know you were having similar issues as well. Thoughts for you and your wife. You have my number, call ANYTIME you need to talk. Dolomite

And by the way relatives are part of the neighbors we do not like. I used to get asked about what "big" gun I was shooting down there. The big gun? A 9mm or 45 acp rifle. When I would shoot 223 you would think I was setting off an A Bomb. Someone has to have a 400 Corbon. Dolomite
