  1. What is it with these instructors..... TN only has a handful of off-limits places..at least compared to some other states. How hard can it be to keep up with them? If/when the restaurant and park carry bills pass wonder how long (or if) they will change information given in class about those places?
  2. Yes. Another phrase I have learned watching the legislature lately.. "I move to substitute and conform to the house/senate bill." I think that is usually done if a bill has passed one chamber and then is being heard in the other. Considering there haven't been any amendments to the bill, there shouldn't be a problem.
  3. It has passed the house and is on the calendar in the senate for 5/18/09 Tennessee General Assembly Legislation
  4. I was watching that and you are right, she is very much on our side.
  5. I don't think they can come back up as the bill will not go back before the house. But for shear procedural discussion, it takes a 2/3 vote to remove a bill/amendment that has been tabled.
  6. Well....I admit to really know what is going on you have to read further than just the summary of the bill. You have to read the actions on it and follow what has happened to some degree, if it has been amended etc... If you don't your liable to not fully understand what is going on. But I believe myself and many others have tried to keep all of TGO fairly up to date on what is going on.
  7. See this post in another thread. Please try to keep this thread on topic.
  8. The original House bill did not have the curfew in it. See here. On 3/30/09 the curfew was added with House amendment 1 (see here) which passed by 64-29. On 4/6/09 13 more amendments were introduced in the house (2-14) all either failed, were tabled or withdrawn and the bill passed 70-26. On 4/16/09 the Senate passed Senate Amendment 1 (see here) which removed the age-restricted venue and the curfew and then passed the bill on the same day. On 4/23/09 the House non-concurred with the Senate changes. On 4/27/09 the Senate refused to recede from it's changes. on 4/30/09 the House refused to recede from it's non-concurrence. And appointed a conference committee. The Senate also appointed a conference committee On 5/4/09 the conference committee met and issued a Majority report (see here) to accept Senate amendment 1 (see above) as the final version. On 5/7/09 The house passed that version 66-23 On 5/14/09 the Senate is scheduled to vote on this version. The final version does not have the age-restricted venue or curfew in it. The summary on the bills main page is reflective of the bill as introduced and has not been changed. I'm really not sure what else to say or do to dispel any fears of what is being voted on.
  9. 10 days. But either way not effective till June 1
  10. Does sort of remind us....as cute as it may seem to let someone fire a weapon they have no experience with.....someone needs to be backing them up.

  13. Care to share with us where you took your class?
  14. Well even though falcon1 was talking about prices in VA nearly 20 years ago and crimsonaudio is talking about taxes in FL....I'd still be willing to bet restaurants in TN currently make a decent profit on alcohol sales here.
  15. The restaurant paid $7.60 for 750ml or paying barely over $0.01/ml The they would sell 50ml shots at $5.00 each or selling it at $0.10/ml If you didn't spill any....you would get 15 50ml shots from a 750ml bottle. At $5.00 a shot that is $75.00 for a bottle they only paid $7.60 for. Using his figures......
  16. Yes, meet Ms Goeser in the post above yours....
  17. I'd rather not address the status of your mind... What you quoted is the summary of the bill when it was filed. The usually don't change that summary no matter what amendments or other changes are made to the bill through the process. But the short answer is No, they have not added the age-restriction back in.
  18. The bill's status page shows it has been places on the Senate's Message Calendar for Thursday.
  19. LOL....well I don't think that will happen with this bill, just wanted to note that's not dead even if for some reason it didn't go any further right now. But remember...no one has turned the lights off yet...
  20. Just a note...I am not necessarily talking about this or any other bill. But even if a bill does not pass before they adjourn this year, it would pick up where it has been left of next year since it would still be within the same session of the legislature. Sessions are for 2 years, this session is 2009-2010. A bill can can carry over from one year to the next in the same session. Only if sessions adjourns and a bill doesn't' pass would it have to start all over the next session. On a side note....the parks bills HB0716/SB0976 has just passed in the Senate Finance Ways and Means committee. It now goes to the Calendar Committee Another note...Sen Kyle said to Sen Beavers that maybe she was privy to information he didn't have (about House intentions). So it stands to reason if even all the legislators don't know all that is going on...it is very reasonable that we don't know everything.
  21. I'm not saying this is the case, however lots of bills get passed in the last few weeks without a lot of debate or discussion in the legislature or by the press simply because of trying to get everything done before they adjourn. The parks bill HB0716/SB0976 is scheduled to be heard at 3:00pm this afternoon in the Senate Finance Ways and Means committee. The thumbprint bill HB0254/SB0554 was signed into law by the Governor.
  22. AFAIK no other business' have increased insurance rates because they don't prohibit carry. Not sure why restaurants would.
  23. Funny thing is this is a Memphis station and is supposed to cover AR and MS as well, both of which already allow carry in restaurants that serve alcohol. If it such a problem, why don't they have stock footage of all the bad incidents in those two states? Exactly....because they don't have any, because it just doesn't happen like they think it will. I'll be glad once this is finally passed....
  24. I understand wanting it to be done, but you know even if this had been passed and signed by the Governor in February it would not have taken effect yet. Even if a few Senators for some reason changed their mind (which I doubt) since their last vote, I still don't think it would be enough to not pass the bill. As we saw with the past the bill took in the House...I think things happen they way they do for a reason, even if we don't know them right away.
