  1. Since we are using terms...remeber it's not just if you think you are in fear of death or serious bodily harm. It is a reasonable belief of the fear of death or serious bodily injury. Resaonable being possiably determined by 12 people sitting in a quite, controlled courtoom and not in the heat of the moment like you. So just because you felt fear doesn't mean all is ok. As has been said....there are many variables including your abilities, the number of attackers etc.... that can be factored in to what is reasonable.
  2. See above.... LOL...congrats...I was happy when I made mine oh so long ago...
  3. Iffy situation. You can't legally use deadly force to protect against an a$$ whippin. Course if that happens and it starts turning into a threat to life or limb you would probably be justified in using it...the question would be if you were able to at that point. But the law basically says you can only threaten to use deadly force in the same situations that you would be able to use it in. 39-11-611(a)(2) Notwithstanding § 39-17-1322, a person who is not engaged in unlawful activity and is in a place where the person has a right to be has no duty to retreat before threatening or using force intended or likely to cause death or serious bodily injury, if: (A) The person has a reasonable belief that there is an imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury; ( The danger creating the belief of imminent death or serious bodily injury is real, or honestly believed to be real at the time; and © The belief of danger is founded upon reasonable grounds. But would he report you for that if he is the one pursuing you? But...if you draw first and then he draws and fires.....a judge/jury could see you as the first one to raise it to the level of deadly force and consider the thug to be drawing in self-defense.
  4. Welcome
  5. He probably meant wihtout a permit. In many other states you can have a loaded weapon, without a permit, in your car, just like in your house or business. But not in TN.
  6. It will become law without his signature 10 days after it gets to his desk (not sure if that 10 days starts today and/or if it includes weekends) but I would guess he could wait till day 9 to veto it.
  7. Nikki, you can look at this post for info on carry and self-defense laws and a few other things. I know it's hard, but try to stay strong...remember what I told you and I believe anyone on TGO is here for you if you need anything.
  8. LOL... or at least more interesting....
  9. Oh I know she's not knew to carry and what can happen. Also wasn't passing and judgement on her opinion about open carry. I just meant she was new to TGO and she may not know the topic of OC has been talked about at great length in other thread dedicated to the topic not to mention the many that were hijacked into talking about it.
  10. Well.....it's not 100% done yet.... :tinfoil:
  11. Could be wrong...but figure Bredesen will let it become law without signing it. Come June 1 we'll have to start a new thread for the restaraunts we have carried in...
  12. I think that was Doug Jackson telling the story, wasn't it?
  13. Talking about Nikki's situation....
  14. I think you may be on to something. Just like jughead metioned about his interactions. They may at times make their prefence known and even if not right out say it is the law, strongly suggest it is or it best to follow what they say. You'd think the state would want to know "exactly" what is being taught beyond what they require.
  15. I know your still fairly new Nikki and it was brought up in this thread, but OC vs CC has been discussed at great lengths in many different threads on this board. On another note....It is legal to carry in a church or other house of worship in TN. Unless it's posted of course.
  16. Ummm...is the guy you gave the $200 to and the guy who you are complaining about stealing from you two different guys? If so you really don't get that from the first post. Especially since 99% of the post is aobut the guy you gave the $200 too. Judging by your second post I think you are assuming most of us know about another incident that apparently most of us don't know about...at least judging from the other post.
  17. Hmmm...well teaching all over the country could be part of it. Banks are off limtis in some states. I also agree it is up to each individual to know the laws for themselves and expand their knowledge beyond the basic safety class. However if I am paying for something, I expect to get a quality product (i.e. correct information) ------ On another note that maybe some of the HCP instructors on here can answer.... How much of curriculum laid about the state covers the law? Or do must instructors add that as part of their own curriculum?
  18. That's what it is for me......
  19. True...and a DUI has mandatory jail time.
  20. Do they have more than one instructor or set of instructors?
