LOL....busy aren't we? Guess we'll find out for sure on the 30th
-
Hold the phone.... JavaGuy you may be right. I just watched the video of the Senate on this (listened actually for some reason the video didn't play). Sen Jackson said it would go back to the house for them to have one more chance or they could choose to send it to a confrence committee. So assuming he is correct, it sound like Thursday the House could choose to accpet the Senate version one more time.
-
No worries.... I've noticed from some of the videos not even the legislators are sure of the all of the procedures....lol
-
The page is updated now to show the Senate refused to recede. It says it can take them up to an hour to update it. However I still don't think it goes back to the House again.
-
From How a bill becomes law page on the state's website. It appears to say if the chamber that made the changes (Senate in this case) refuses to recede it goes to a confrence committe...not back to the chamber (House in the case) to first pass it.
-
From what I've heard some legislators say, what the clerk of the house and what is has on the state's website....I don't think it would go back to the House again either. If the Senate does not withdraw their changes, it goes to the confrence committee I believe. I didn't know it was going to be discussed in the Senate today either. It is not on the Bill's info page or on any of the Calendars for the Senate today.

House Rejects Senate Guns In Bars Bill
Fallguy replied to threeshot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
One thing to remember is....with or without any of the restrictions, the bill would only allow carry in restaurants as defined in the bill. Now who knows what versions is liable to finally come out of things, but the first amendement to the House bill defines "age-restricted" as.... The key part of that definition is "requiring each person who attempts to gain entry to those buildings or facilities to submit for inspection an acceptable form of identification" One could argue that if they don't card you at the door, it is not age-restricted per that definition, even if by rule or whatever they only allow those 18 and up in. -
While well meaning, I don't think all of the OP's information is 100% accurate.

I have heard that as reason some OC as well. A chance to educate the public about carry in general.

I tend to agree if the sheep saw more citizens with firearms it would become less "shocking" to them over time. But what do I know?...lol However I don't think anyone should OC if they are not comfortable with it or if they are not prepared to deal with the attention that can come from it...from sheep and LEOs. Oh so true sir.... Hmmmm....not an all bad idea....
-
Of course the retired LEO ID is good in the 15 states that don't honor TN HCP's at least.

If I were to take a guess I would say he has been pumped full of statistics and studies and keep them all straight. I would not be surprised if 82% of gun owners (but more likely just the public in general) said "assault weapons" weren't needed for hunting. But that doesn't mean they think they should be banned since there is sport shooting and self-defense among other reasons. Maybe they even just said that they don't use them for that purpose, not that they couldn't be. But he couldn't keep straight what he has been told about the NRA, gun owners, assault weapons and so on. So he looked like an idiot because he doesn't have any actual knowledge on the subject just a compiling of studies and statistics he has tried to memorize.

Also they're not necessarily fake... Not every non-leo badge is a fake badge. If it says Handgun Carry Permit....it is a real HCP badge.

Frazsteve......as you are fairly new I appolgize for some of the post. For whatever reason you will find many on TGO very anti-OC even more than the general public is anti-gun. When any thread is started about OC istead of just answering the question of keeping the thread on topic, it becomes open season to run down OC. Anyway....you may want to check National Open Carry and OpenCarry.org - A Right Unexercised is a Right Lost!

A bowling alley in Jackson does as well....well sort of. The bar actually has it's own entrance from outside, and operates under it's own name. There is a door from the alley into the bar. But I would think they are actually considered two different places of business. http://www.jacksonbowling.com/

No thanks....two reasons. One you're probably right (although I do know of the famous case of Knoxville PD officer who came from Ohio and they guy at Wal-Mart) but Secondly...and the main reason...I'm not going back through a bunch of OC v CC threads....lol
-
I would also agree with the 99% are good rule. Trouble is with a smaller dept in a smaller population you are liable to run into that 1% more often....
-
Not to hijack this thread.....but I think you make a good point. I have thought about starting a thread on this, but see it going to heck in a handbasket.....and hope it doesn't happen in this thread. But I think there is (or at least can be) a BIG difference between LEOs in larger areas and those from more rual areas. In larger areas, may go through the academy before they ever hit the street. They deal with the public more and therefore even acting like a butt .1% of the time could amount to several complaints. Complaints to supervisors that are more worried about the department as a whole and have to answer to ones above them. Some of which at least feel responsiable to the citizens. In smaller areas some LEOs may actually walk in off the streets and work for months before going to the academy. Their only knowledge of the law is what they think it is. The deal with few people...and it is usually the same ones over and over (yes large depts have the "regulars" as well) and those folks have little credit when it comes to complaints. When they do deal with someone knew they may just seem them as future "regular". There really isn't very many layers of supervisors. With a small population there is usually a small amount of complaints. Also...not like there are a bunch of good canidates beating down the door to replace one that might be let go. Now...I am not trying to make a blanket statement about LEOs or even a blanket one about those from large or small departments. But I do think there is a difference. I have rode along with LEOs from small departments larger ones and with the THP....all I can say is I did see a difference between all 3 in my experience.

Yes Yes Yes....I'm sure all of us here discussing it on TGO are really going to be the only influence and the only ones to cause whatever happens with this bill to happen. I would imagine less than 10% of the members here have even contacted their elected official. But even if 10% have....not all of that 10% are saying they want a clean bill. Even those that want a clean bill are saying one with some restrictions is better than not at all. Nothing wrong with letting your legislator know how you feel. He knows the tempature of things in Nashville and can tell what the majority is willing to do. But if people aren't packing their pythons at their local nice restaurant on July 1....they can blame this ba$tard all they want if it makes them feel better.
