  1. I think this varies from location to location. I know back home when the hospital first decided to have security they had off-duty LEOs. But actually the hospital simply paid the city and the city paid the officers. They done it during the time they weren't scheduled to patrol. So they did wear their uniforms because they were still acting under their authority as LEOs (Like the situation farman talked about) Some agencies may allow their officers to work off-duty security and work directly for the other place but still regulate agency issued equipment (uniform, weapons, etc...) Other agencies may not even allow their officers to work off duty security jobs.
  2. Oh....this is something else I've heard as well. It will help identify you as a "good guy" to LE in active shooter situation when they get on scene and see you with a weapon. In fact I've even heard of some LE agencies giving that very reason when they were selling some HCP badges... Not to say I agree with any of these reasons....you just asked Why someone would wear one
  3. I think some where it as they OC under the idea that if someone sees the badge along with the gun they are less likely to be "shocked". I in no way think simply wearing a HCP badge is impersonating a LEO (at least not in the legal sense) but agree that some may think that on first glance, without reading the badge. That is the main reason I don't like them...to me it lends credence to the idea only LEOs should have guns and/or OC. If a person wants to carry and/or OC a HCP is all they need. I can see a sheep telling someone they "thought" that someone with a HCP badge was a LEO, but not sure why they would flat out lie by saying the other person told them they were a LEO.
  4. I'm not sure why you should need a HCP to carry a loaded long gun in your car. Actually not sure why you need any permit to carry any firearm in your car. Well....really.....not sure why you need a permit to carry a firearm period, but that is another topic. At one time I thought I heard about an amendment to allow those with a Hunting permit to have a loaded long gun as well. But that could have been a different bill.
  5. The current law (the one you mention) only covers a declared "state of emergency" Not sure how much difference there is in practicality, but there is technically. This bill is just an attempt to cover all the bases.
  6. Ummm....re-read the OP
  7. Of course going to the gun show and seeing HCP/CCW badges is about like going to the zoo and seeing wild animals....lol Also know why the don't want to allow loaded weapons as well...
  8. Only if you have a Handgun Carry Permit.
  9. I think so..... It has already passed the House which is usually more of a challenge than the Senate on these type bills. For some reason the Senate added an amendment that would make it only apply to vehicles you or your family owns...but maybe that will be removed before it is done.
  10. How LE handles a self-defense shooting could change if HB1795/SB1609 passes. It would amend the Self-Defense law (39-11-611) to say in part... Basically it seems to say a LE investigation of a non-LEO shooting should be of the quality as a LEO shooting. That LE can't arrest a person unless it has PC after such investigation. Also if such arrest is made and you can prove that requirements of the subsection weren't met, the court may award a judgment to cover the cost of defending yourself in the criminal trial. (Wonder why it's not shall like in civil suits?) However I will grant that a basic statement may help LE to determine it as self-defense. But, since this bill could be perceived to hamper LE not sure what chance it really has of passing.
  11. I'm going... Just me....but willing to take anyone's spouse of GF for them...j/k Weather permiting, riding up from Milan (West TN) Looking forward to it!!
  12. Welcome
  13. I'd like to amend my statement.....having seen the actions of the last few days...it seems more like the OP had more information than the rest of us rather than not being correct.
  14. Actually you can make your own I believe. The bill says "privately made". However it does place certain limits...you can't legally make your own cannon and use it.
  15. Thanks....I like it real well. I had a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 before the VTX....nice bike, but being a "big boy" not as much room on it as I would have liked. I added some 3.5" risers which helped some, but I still like set of apes or at least mini-apes on it so as to be able to lean back a little more. But I'm not much of a wrench to be honest. Can change the oil etc... but if there it isn't in the shop manual, would rather have experienced hands around...lol
  16. Tough break brother... But who knows....could make that motorcycle trip (when we can one together) a lot more fun.
  17. He may have mentioned the search warrant because of the recent SCOTUS ruling. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/newsworthy-reports/20528-supreme-court-limits-warrantless-vehicle-searches.html
  18. DAMN!
  19. Yep....I have given a lot of thought to Montana as well, but really like riding my bike....and just not as many days of riding weather up there... Still looking at TX though.... TN version not moving HB1783/SB1644
  20. sen.doug.jackson@capitol.tn.gov sen.lowe.finney@capitol.tn.gov sen.tim.burchett@capitol.tn.gov sen.paul.stanley@capitol.tn.gov sen.mae.beavers@capitol.tn.gov
  21. I believe this has been posted before and debated at great length....
  22. If the Governor was to ever impose martial law in part of or all of the state...I'm not naive enough to think that ever local guard commander and/or police chief and sheriff will be aware of the law, or even obey it if they are aware of it. But unlike after Katrina, where the citizens had little to no recourse after their weapons were taken, if this bill passes, the citizens of TN will have recourse if some authority chooses to violate the law. For those interested...
  23. True, but it will on a state level.
  24. No problems so far this evening..... Thanks!!!!
