  1. Can't say I haven't ever thought of something similar.
  2. If it is my life or my families vs. the BG's life I hope I would take his and preserve mine. But of course there is no way to know for sure unless such a situation came up. How I would react afterwards is even more impossible to say for sure. Have to say I'm not really sure where you are trying to go with this. I do not think anyone on this board wants to take the life of another person. But in the right situation they have simply stated their intention to if it means protecting their life. I do agree education is very important. ...and if one feels that they could not take the life of another, no matter what, firearm ownership is probably not for them. There is no way I can even start to understand how you feel, so I won't pretend to. But simply because others have not been in the same situation does not mean they have a "John Wayne or Annie Oakley" attitude when they state that they would defend themselves. An ironic thing is on another thread not too long ago, when people were saying they would take cover or leave the area if they could when shooting started. Some criticized them for not saying they would do more to stop the threat and save others. So we have the complete spectrum of people here it would seem and to me that makes for good discussion as long as it stays that way, without personal attacks etc.... I am still pretty new at moderating and there have been very fews threads ever closed on this board that I know of, so I don't see the need to close this one as of now, but some of the others may take a look at it.
  3. I have read up on VA some. In VA you even have the situation where concealed carry is illegal, but open carry is legal in some places. So that is one reason I didn't say all....lol
  4. Welcome to the board! Jump right in and ask any questions and offer any suggestions you may have.
  5. In most other states the list of off limits places is in one statute and applies specifically to those with a carry permit. Pretty simple and straight forward. At times I've thought that would be a good idea hear, but afraid legislators would want to start adding places to the list that aren't off limits now. Also in many states a posted sign is more or less a request/suggestion. If you carry past the sign you have not actually broke any law, like you have in TN. Of course the place can still ask you to leave and if you don't you're trespassing just like TN.
  6. I'll let Mars speak for himself. But for some, including me, the carry in parks in general is a grey area, because the law 39-17-1311 does not specifically ban handguns. In fact what it says that is illegal to carry is a list of weapons in 39-17-1302(a) of which a handgun is not one of them. Now the AG has issued two opinions (07-148 & 08-26) in which he says that carry is illegal. But that is just his opinion. It would be a judge or jury that would have to find you guilty of it.
  7. As of today at least, I plan on being there.
  8. Without fully checking yet, I'm not sure if any non-resident permit would help someone from TN to carry where they can't now.
  9. Welcome Charles!
  10. Welcome....even though we have had some discussions on other theads already...lol
  11. LOL...could be for some, but IMO I would say no in comparison to the other listed places on the statute.
  12. There ya go.... As far as 12-14 years ago....who cares...new laws since then. Old law on 1359 was a place could simply announce their no weapon policy, but now they must post. No sign, no proper sign....ok unless in my above list or prohibited by federal law.
  13. Got ya....and you are probably right.
  14. What do you mean? New Hampshire does recognize TN permits.
  15. LOL..happens to me a lot...get a little too long winded in some of my responses. Hush strickj!
  16. GLOCKMEISTER I agree with you in that the "substantial compliance" is a gray area. But wouldn't you agree that for a library or any Govt. building to be off-limits that there must be some type of sign posted? That if there is no sign at all it is not off limits?
  17. A good place to check is Handgunlaw.us Here is a list of states that issue Non-Resident permits and how to apply for them. States that issue Non-resident permits You can then check the main link to see which states would honor those permits. Just watch, some states will not honor non-resident permits even if they honor resident permits from the same state. Florida is an ironic one to me, in that the issue non-resident permits, but they will not honor non-resident permits from any other state.
  18. You said it Mars!! I wish I could meet the instructor, person or whoever started the "Can't carry in Gov. Buildings" idea and correct them and ask them to please quite spreading that. As you said, the "exemption" in 39-17-1359 for Gov Buildings was that if they already had a sign posted substantially similar to 39-17-1359, they didn't have to post a new sign. But either way for it to be off limits it has to have a sign posted. The only places that are off limits per TN law are... 1.) Places that serve alcohol for onsite consumption. 39-17-1305 2.) Any room where a judicial proceeding is taking place. 39-17-1306 (Not the whole courthouse and not even the courtroom if judicial proceeding is not taking place.) 3.) On school property. 39-17-1309 Exceptions in 39-17-1309©(1) and 39-17-1310 4.) Public Parks, Playgrounds, Civic Centers and other recreational buildings and grounds. 39-17-1311 Exceptions in 39-17-1311((1) 5.) Any place with a properly posted sign under 39-17-1359 There are other places off limits per Federal Law, but the above 5 are the only place by TN law. Any of the lawyers on the board correct me if I'm wrong. AG Opinion on international no symbol w/ gun. 07-43 Question 2 AG Opinion on Parks 07-148 Question 3
  19. If you're printing....you think it looks like a gun, because you know it is a gun. But as others said....any others that "may" notice don't really have a clue as to what it is and most aren't going to worry about it.
  20. Don't know about all, but....
  21. Wouldn't that be a step down from "Super" moderator?
  22. I would suggest that if you are going to carry the .22 you have your HCP with you. Otherwise it is illegal to carry even if you have a valid one. T.C.A. 39-17-1351 (n) (1) Except as provided in subdivision (n)(2), a permit issued pursuant to this section shall be good for four (4) years and shall entitle the permit holder to carry any handgun or handguns that the permit holder legally owns or possesses. The permit holder shall have the permit in the holder's immediate possession at all times when carrying a handgun and shall display the permit on demand of a law enforcement officer.
  23. Good Deal!!
