  1. Get a dog and a better alarm - just kidding - don't want you thinking me a smart azz; but I do like dogs - obviously. And since I have a lot of dogs and they are noisy as heck when anyone gets near the house, it would be tough for bad guys - and several of the "long noses" bite. The dogs sleep inside with access to the interior, plus we are well lighted and also alarmed and of course armed. Shotgun is court of last resort, as I agree with others if I wanted to use more than a handgun for multiple targets I thought are protected to some extent by armor, I would want a shortend high-caliber rifle. My:2cents:
  2. Yeah, it was crazy. I like some of the music but as another poster stated, the iimpact of that group is wide-reachiing. And the nut case, Mark David Chapman, just walking up and killing him - very unreal.
  3. Ted Nugent was one of the best live shows I ever saw - that guy had a LOT of energy. Of course, that was when both he and I were much younger.
  4. +1 another on the G19 for the stated reasons; just sumthin' about it (outside it running without fail). And good luck on the exam.
  5. Very nice David - handy little pocket companion indeed.
  6. The gleam in your parents eye category, then, LOL.
  7. The guy who owns TN Gun Country showed me one when I bought my Kel-Tec there - a personal one he uses. Don't know the name of the holster, though, but it looked like a wallet style. That's TN Gun Country in Clarksville - 931-552-2118 (on Ft Campbell Blvd if you are ever over this way).
  8. This is very refreshing to read about and I hope the company follows thru and continues to support the guy. I also think it is great he has some paid time off to sort out all of what I can only imagine are a flood of emotions and that he comes out OK and is not sued in civil court by the robbers family or some such craziness. Hopefully the LEOs are on the trail of the accomplice, also. Thanks for sharing this article.
  9. Yeah, good point on the head butter cutter showing up and having everyone go ape-crap. And yep, Clinton and GWB both were big on visits - I saw Clinton live and in living color when still on active duty. And I do think we all agree, if the troops gain benefit, then its great cause we cannot do enough for those in the war zones.
  10. Holy bat crap...that sucks. We took a pay cut and had some "reductions" (nice word for people losing their jobs) but not as bad as all of that stuff. Jeepers.
  11. is associated with the loss of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens in 1959, but for me it could also be associated with the soon to be 30th anniversary of the death of John Lennon on December 8 1980. Do you remember where you were (looking at ages, some of our folks were in grade school or still a gleam in their parents eyes:))? I was a young Sailor, living the good life in South Texas (NAS Kingsville) at my second duty station (first was overseas, Okinawa). It was unreal to hear about Lennon's death and everytime I hear the song "Lunatic Fringe", the original version by Red Rider, I think of that shooting. Of course, now we can get Beatles music on iTunes - in 1980, such as digital music was was still a dream of some software guys (yeah, I remember the first desk tops with their disk boot and whopping 40 MEGAbyte harddrives) So where were you in December 1980?
  12. Good luck and God Bless - keep us updated. Nature seems to work pretty darned well, so all should be good. And hey, now you will have a little guy or gal to teach guns and the shooting sports to and if you are a hunter, a companion. Although I don't hunt anymore, some of greatest memories of my late Dad were spending time with him and friends/family out hunting - even if all we did was spend a day outside and get nothing. Again, all the best to you and your Wife and the soon to be little JohnnyFox.
  13. Hi Oh Shoot, Yeah, did not make me too happy either - I thought his remarks the same old same old and like you, I hope the guys and gals with boots on the ground at least felt better - but staying up until 22:30 just to see him was not too considerate (maybe POTUS has a basketball game so he had to be there so late). All of us who served have been thru the dog and pony visits/show VIPs, though. But one visit I really did enjoy was Bob Hope and this troop of entertainers - they came to the USS Midway when we were in the Persian Gulf region for Christmas of 87 (talk about feeling my age - both ships I was on are decommed - the MIDWAY a museum in San Diego and the Constellation, last time I checked, sitting in Bremerton in mothballs or maybe razor blades by now). Ted Kennedy, among others, also made trips at one point to the MIDWAY since we were forward deployed and spend a lot of time underway, but even guys from MA weren't too keen on the Senator's visit. Oh well...glad to know with a huge deficit we can still spend so much money to make Mr Obama feel better about hiimself by flying all the way to Bagram; off topic, but I cannot figure out how it is allowed that POTUS spends our money flying around in AF1 to campaign - and both parties do it. And I still pray fevery night for our troops to come home soon and safe. Wishing you an early Merry Christmas - we got our decorations up today so the house feels very much in the spirit. Cheers, B
  14. Good deal - congratulations! Are you sure your cousin doesn't work there, LOL.
  15. I was able to watch the POTUS' remarks to the brave folks of the 101st and other units and services (Go Navy) today (12/3/10). My hope is the morale of our over-deployed, over-tasked troops was indeed boosted by the POTUS' visit and I pray for all the troops to make a safe and quick return home. Ft Campbell has a lot of people deployed and it's heart wrenching to see in the paper when we lose any of them, as we have so often over this year. God Bless our troops and get them home - safe and soon!
  16. Sad story and yes, reinforces being ready all the time. Hope the LEOs catch the sob who did it.
  17. Well, had seven then but used the Pugs (two original members, the other a rescue, as are all the others). Recently lost our precious old girl; she is in dog heaven now and no longer in pain. But it hurt to see her go. So I am in purely technical terms six dogs, but still have number 7 in my heart. We love dogs and would have more, but it is a challenge with the ones we have to give them all enough attention. When we started rescuing dogs, we did not intend to get so many but what the heck - we have no kids so we care for dogs. To me, kids, dogs (and domestic animals in general), and the elderly deserve our protection and help.
  18. Welcome Joeflyer. You sure have a nice gun shop close by you.
  19. Very cool- like putting a covered pyrex dish of food to cook in the back window of a car on a hot day - like an oven (literally).

    Glock?

I only have one - my G19 - and the only reason I would think of selling would be to buy the next Generation G19. Sure do like it though and if I did not have a moritorium on spending would be buying some others (Glock and other makes).
  21. Wow - that would have been a sight. We are really looking forward to the boat trip and hope to make it down there before then - will depend on the weather. Maybe I will get lucky and can have some pics to share.
  22. Thanks for sharing that great pic.
  23. That would be great to see. When I lived on Whidbey Island, WA, there were nesting eagles within the family housing area and all around the bay. Here is a funny eagle story: we were at an aviation meeting about expanding the Bellingham, WA airport. One of the environmental guys said the increased use would disturb eagles in the area. At the time, I was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island (as an air traffic controller) and on the approach lights to runway 13 - so the lights were on poles in the water to the northwest of the airport - this big old eagle would come in and sit, watching the airplanes. One of the guys in our group mentioned that to the environmental guy; his reply? Oh well, there are "tolerant eagle and intolerant eagles". Cracked us all up. The closest I have been to one in the wild was a young eagle in Alaska - got to within about 6-8 feet. He hung around the station because the fish guts, etc were just tossed out and I think he also was the beneficiary of the occassional piece of chicken, Eagles are just fabulous birds.
