  1. Most of the time I carry a G19 OWB in a paddle holster. Wear either a loose shirt, jacket, etc. The average person will not notice a bump, I don't think - consider with iPhones, etc, many people have "stuff" on their belts. IWB is certainly more concealable but from what I have found, comfort levels vary a lot. But as many OP have noted - find what works for you (and have a really good belt either way). Good luck.
  2. It's a good looking knife. I have a lot of my Dad's old knives - lock blade, bucks, case, bokers, etc - some of the few things I have of his (my ahole brother and his evil spawn did God knows what with his guns). One little "gentlemans' knife" I can remember my Dad having as far back as I have memories. Anyway, decided to get in the 21st century and got a Spyderco Stretch for Christmas - it has the combo blade like the Gerber. I think i will have to get one of the Gerbers now that you shared this with us! Really nice looking knife and that price can't be beat.
  3. Very sorry for your loss and the mix up causing your kids and you to miss a last visit. My best to you and your family for your loss and praying time will quickly ease the pain.
  4. Very nice. Let us know how you like it. I like Ruger - have a P89 that is a very solid (in all respects).
  5. Sorry, Mate, for your loss and you are so right. I have lost both my parents and your words resonate very mcuh with me. Time will sooth this intense pain you feel now and the good memories will be with you much longer. Nothing can ever make the pain or loss go completely away, but time can heal the most severe wound. Again, please accept my deepest condolences to you and your family at this sad time.
  6. Couldn't you simply wire in a chime to the motion sensor of a motion action light? But like the light, you would want it not to go off if a dog, raccoon, etc, is wandering around I'd think. One possible easy and inexpensive solution.
  7. Great job and congratulations to the sharp shooting Marine!
  8. Cats are great animals and it looks from your pictures Tweety was really special and had a wonderful life with follks who loved him. Again, my heart goes out to you, but I know Tweety is at Rainbow Bridge, playing with my Abigail and our other furry friends - who are waiting for us there when we, too, leave this "veil of tears". Merry Christmas to you and yours and I hope your sadness passes quickly to become only the great memories of Tweety. Barry
  9. LOL, same with me - can't afford one of those high-end ceramics for the kitchen. Maybe flyanything can give us some first-hand reports on how his new knife holds up. i can't wait for Christmas to get into the 21st century with an assisted opener - I have a bunch of my Dad's Bucks, Case, Bokers, etc. Solid knives that hold an edge but not easy to deploy quickly.
  10. My heart goes out to you, mate. Here is a site that maybe you have seen, but if not, I hope it provides some comfort to know (my view) Tweety will meet up with again. I recently lost one of our "pack" - it stings. The good memories will soon overtake the sadness. Rainbows Bridge Poem
  11. Nice gift and enjoy your time with your Mom, shooting targets or shooting the breeze.
  12. You will figure it out in your own way and if you get an HCP and carry, will - if you are a reasonable person (which is how you come across) do OK. I don't think anyone who has posted is trying to be anything other than helpful and make good points. There is a big responsibility that comes with gun rights. Good luck. PS: also get yourself a good knife if you don't already have one.
  13. I carry a G19 OWB and can cover with loose shirt and sometimes in winter I pull out and carry my old reliable Ruger P89 and can also cover with a jacket/coat. I also agree with the OP - open carry, while a right, is not adviseable for many reasons. Also, as noted elsewhere, the small bump G27 would make would not draw attention. And a LEO will not hassle you if you are not doing anything wrong. But I also think most people, even if you had a gun on your hip, are not likely to notice unless they are LEO or otherwise keyed to look for such things. People pay little attention to others in most situations.
  14. Man moving is tough and I think I would rather eat a raw copperhead than move again. And you are right - the demands are a good test of stamina such as a survival situation might demand.
  15. Good deal and a common theme is active, smaller meals (with nutrition - bye bye Big Macs), etc. Glad to hear you loss to date. I am at about 10 lbs and going slowly but know it will happen. Besides, I figured out from the tips on hiking in bear country it's best if I can run fast and a fair piece with the understanding I don't have to outrun the bear, just the other hikers, ha ha.
  16. Congrats on quitting smoking - it was 15 years in October that I quit and it was one of the best moves ever - and the price of smoking: WOW! When I was your age, I was in great shape, but it is so easy to get out of shape and I let it go once I retired from the Navy - but like I wrote, back in the saddle and on track. Not going to (barring serious injury) going back to the idle life again.
  17. Cool. I too, am trying to get to the right BMI. Plus I have a lot more energy for being outside, even when it's cold.
  18. Yes, there is a time for discourse and there is a time to punch the other azzhole in the face. Methinks we have too many in "leadership" who think talking will solve all the ills. With the noted exception of Jesus Christ (and in modern times, Ghandi), I don't know of anyone able to maintain a truly peaceful existence and not respond to violence with equal or greater violence to still the threat (and it did not work out too well for JC or Ghandi, although Christian believers can assert JC's actions were part of a greater plan).
  19. Perhaps more a lack of leadership, as in the pansies run the world. Look at elected people and how few have served in the military - and the number goes down all the time. The government keeps intruding- eat this, don't eat that, watch out for this, etc. And I don't mean good advice, rather, the rash of laws getting passed. TSA falls into that Nanny State mentality so prevalent. Maybe we should think about who is in this country, why, and keep better tabs on loonies (homegrown and imported).
  20. I don't think prohibition against any type of profiling occurred just in the last two years (to my point this ain't lib/con issue imho), but we do need something to give. I have flown around 80-90 thousand miles over the last year (next year should not be so intense), gone to a lot of airports from here to the bottom of the world and can tell you, some guy or gal scrounging around in your baggage (or your pants) will of course catch an obvious (read idiot) doing something. Most times, all it does is cause someone to have to dump out their mouthwash or throw away a pair of nail clippers. Dedicated lunatics will find other ways - take a look around at any airport and the task of keeping it secure is monumental. Wasting money on mall cops at screening stations is not the answer. Anyway, I get to experience the joy () again Wednesday.

    It's Here

Yep - it is crazy/amazing. And I've seen in Washington State and here in Tennessee. But some of them cannot drive when roads are dry!
